Axle Assembly problems of the 2001 Chevrolet S10

Two problems related to axle assembly have been reported for the 2001 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Axle Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2004

No special events leading to failure. At approximately 30000 miles, the 4x4 shift actuator failed during extreme snow conditions, causing vehicle to become stranded on highway. Shift actuator replaced with genuine gm part at dealership. Note: per dealer, shift actuator is not covered by either gm warranty or the extended warranty on drivetrain and axle. It was called a "normal wear" item. General motors has not responded to emails or phone calls regarding this vehicle.

2 Axle Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2003

Ball joints are loose when installed. Reported by dealer to be within chevy specs. The same problem with the tie rod ends. Cant keep the alignment right with this spec. Dealer will not warranty.
