Chevrolet S10 owners have reported 10 problems related to brake disc (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
- the contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet S10 with an odometer reading of 15800 miles. The contact started having problems with the vehicle at 1100 miles when the brakes began to make loud noises. In August o 2003 the contact took the vehicle to don hall Chevrolet of ashland kentucky, and the service personnel determined that the brake pads were not compatible with the factory rotors, thus causing the brakes to make a v loud noise. The rotors were turned and new brake pads were installed. Three days later the noise continued. A mechanic installed wagner brake pads. The manufacturer's pads installed at the dealer were not as efficient. At 11, 000 miles the brake pedal rattled when driving over speed bumps. The service personnel at mcfarland murray chevorlet dealership of grayson kentucky removed the dashborad, and replaced the bushing on the brake pedal. They concluded that the brake pedal assembly was incorrectly installed ,and the bushing was defective from the factory installation. Two years later the contact had the same problems with the bushing. The dealership did not want to make the repairs since it was out of warranty. The brake assembly was installed incorrectly from factory and it was a safety problem. In addition, the tailgate cables were recalled and replaced. Finally power steering pump was replaced due to a leak. The cooler line was leaking, the oil pan gasket was leaking and the rear brakes were replaced. Updated 03/30/07.

Gm responded they were not responsible for repairs.
Rotors overheat which causes warping. Also, brake pads are too hard and heavy and cause the rotors to overheat and warp. The brake shoes are absolutely perfect. Gm motor stated that the government requires the manufacturer to use these pads.
Brakes have inconsistently pulled vehicle to the left during abrupt stopping--brake linings subsequently prmaturely failed on left front of vehicle, without warning, causing metal to metal contact and the destruction of the rotor. Very poor engineering on the part of Chevrolet is producing inferior quality brakes.

Found outer brake pads worn down to metal during routine tire rotation, at 21500 highway miles, with no prior warning. Dealer says I was lucky as he has received many similar complaints at much lower mileage. Dealer says this is due to removal of asbestos from pad material and gm undersizing the rotors. In addition, the wear indicators are located on the inner pads which wear at a much slower rate, as in my case. The underdesign of this brake system is a safety hazard and gm's responsibility. Gm needs to be made to conduct a recall to replace calipers, rotors and pads with a safe design before someone gets killed!.

When driving under wet conditions and brakes are applied the rear brakes lock up immediately. The front brakes vibrate violently and make a loud sound under the hood. Dealer has been conatacted.
When applying the brakes during wet road conditions the vehicle takes longer to stop than when it is dry. The brake system makes a loud noise and the pedal goes to the floor. It has been checked out at the dealer and they cannot seem to find anything wrong. The tires are on a different vehicle but 1 tire the tread came off during highway operation. During inspection we found 2 other tires with loose tread and ready to peel off. We had them replaced. The tires had slightly less than 10,000 miles on them with a great amount of tread left.
I have taken to chev. 2-3 times and told nothing is wrong. A friend took his to a brake place and the mechanic told him what was wrong before he looked at it because he also owned an S10 and described the same problem / what I am wanting to know is are there simular problems been documented because I haven't found any ,if so what is the cure.
