36 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 07/07/2002

When applying brakes to stop and hit sharp bump in the road brake pedal goes to the floor and braking is sharply decreased to the point where I end up rolling into the intersection. This has happened at least ten times now and only through luck and my driving skill have I not been involved in an accident. Brought back to dealer three times, only last time was service manager able to duplicate problem but each time dealer has informed me this is normal abs operation. This is a very serious problem to which I have slowed my driving down considerably and will not let anyone else drive the vehicle. Still it scares me to death everytime it happens.

42 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1996 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 03/29/2002

On a dry well traveled road with an emergency vehicle approaching an intersection from the right, I applied my brake (non panic) and at first braking was as expected. Then pedal went down and braking action was lost. The same problem has occurred at least 5 times before over the years. My dealership in California has on two occasions attempted to recreate the problem but at a problem rate of once a year the likelihood of this occurrence in a 20 minute period is poor. The dealership can not find any abs malfunction. The abs was reprogrammed 2 years ago per a service bulletin without correcting the problem. Gm has refused to take effective action to fix this problem. Gm points out that many conditions can cause the abs mode to be activated. My arguement is that my S10 should not require 3 to 4 times the normal stopping distance to stop.

When traveling over slight bumps in the road, the truck feels as if it has no brakes. I am not talking huge potholes or extreme dropoffs, but bumps as low as approximately. 2 to 3 inches. The problem happens most often near my home traveling at 35 mph, using the brakes to slow to around 28 mph when I hit the 2 to 3 inch bump. At this point the truck starts coasting and the brake pedal is stiff, approximately. 10 feet past clearing the bump the braking is restored. I don't know if this is normal for abs.

54 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2001 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 02/14/2001

I have taken this to the dealer three or 4 times. When they drive it around the parking lot it doesn't do it. The pedal would go to the floor. It doesn't do it all the time. The brakes have gotton better on regular driving now. When you go over a few little bumps that the pedel disappears. I went right through a stop sign after hitting a few bumps. If a another car had been coming I would have hit it. The car stops , but not when it should . My son drove the car and said it did the same for him also. I told them at the dealer to go over some bumps and see what it does, but they did not. This is the dealer frank beck in hillsdale mi. And the dealer royal Chevrolet in coldwater , mi. Both dealers said they couldn't find anything wrong. Didn't put on hoist . I can't believe my truck is the only one with this problem. I am afraid I will have a bad accident , maybe kill someone with this brake problem, or get killed myself. I don't know what else to do about this or who else to go to for help. I will be expecting to hear from some one soon . Sincerely yours, marjorie williams.

55 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 02/12/2001

I think vehicle is to heavy for brake system (crew cab) centurion design. Heat that comes from engine is excessively hot and is dangerous because some time I am dosing off because of the heat. I have to turn on air conditioner in the winter time in order to maintain the heat off out the cabinet. Dealer has being notified several times and telling me that this is normal. Astrovan have the same engine and no heat comes in into the cabinet. My truck dials are in off position, in cool indicator and heat comes from the ventilation at 98 degrees. The feet get rellay hot and without realizing I am dosing off. I think this very dangerous while driving, unless you drive with the window open or have your air conditioner on in order to cool this air. I alredy asked them as to why I was not told that this is " the way they manufacture this cars (crew CA). If I would have being told this, I would have not purchased this car. I do not live in alaska were I would need constant heat at all the time.
