This failure was on a recall status for the 1996 and 1997 Chevrolet S10 models but not included in the 1998 models. Failure of the wiper circuit board. The problem is known to exist but gm will not honor free replacement of the defective part because of a stated age date even though the vehicle has less than 37,000 miles on it.

Failure Date: 09/22/2005

I took the vehicle(1998 S10 blazer) to the dealer and he replaced a bad circuit board module to fix the problem and have paid the dealer for the fix. I have found that gm already has a recall for this vehicle for the 1997 model but my years model is not covered by the recall. The NHTSA id # is 03v159000. Gm should cover this very dangerous problem on the 1998 model as it very obvious that this model has the same problem as the 1997's.

Everyone I have talked to has said that there is a recall for 1996 and 1997 models but not for 1998's. Well there needs to be. Nothing has been to correct the failure be cause cheverolet says there is nothing wrong because there is no recall on this year model. I don't have the money to replace every part and see by trial and error. I've read that it might be a circuit board. I guess its going to take someone getting killed to do something about it.

30 Windshield Wiper/washer problem of the 1997 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 08/30/2004

About 2 weeks ago, the windshield wipers on my 1997 S10 pickup began to intermittently malfunction (there have been 4 instances of this so far). In my ensuing investigation of the problem, I learned that there is a recall to fix the problem. On 9-8-2004 I took the vehicle to southview Chevrolet in inver grove heights, mn to get the wiper module replaced. After entering the VIN number into their computer, they told me my S10 wasn't elligible to have the repairs done at no cost to me. Even though one of their documents stated that the recall was for beginning of production to end of production, they said that the recall expired 2-29-2004. I then called Chevrolet's 800-222-1020 number and asked 2 people why I wasn't notified of a recall, and how can a recall expire. I was issued a service request # 1-257047512, and was told that it was not a recall, but was a special policy that had the above expiration date. Further investigation brought me to your website where I found NHTSA campaign id number: 03v159000 which refers to a recall for this problem on 97 S10 Chevrolets and, futher, refers to gm recall no. 03023. Chevy seems to be using semantics to give me the run-around so they won't have to replace my wiper module. I plan to write to the chevy ceo to bitterly complain and to let him know that there will be no more chevys for me. If I get no satisfaction from him or an underling, what other recourse do I have to light a fire under chevy? thanks for replying to the listed email address. Jon randall.

Windshield wipers have occasionally stopped working while driving in the rain. I recieved a bulletin from Chevrolet stating that some vehicles were being recalled because of this problem.
