Recall on wiper motor on 1996 Chevrolet s-10 pickup was done in the early 90's. Whenever it rains now, wipers don't turn off right away. I had the same problem before I had recall done, and was ok until just recently.

The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet S10. The windshield wipers stopped working intermittently. The wiper switch was replaced, but the failure continued. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03v159000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer). The current and failure mileages were 260,000.

Nhtsa campaign # 98v50001 & 97v096001 " windshield wipe failure due to cracked solder joints on the controller circuit board. Unit failed on my 1998 chev s-10 VIN 1gccs1948wk1xxxxx. Gm 1st agreed to replace at no cost. Upon dealership confirmation of problem, gm change to position of not responsible. This is a continuing problems with the units according to service manager. Gm takes the position that vehicle in not part of any recall. The part involved is the same as on the 1996 vehicles. I replace unit a my expense, dealership did not charge labor. The defect came to my attention when wipers failed and then came to life after touching circuit board housing. The above NHTSA recalls need to be extended to all gm s-10 pickups as well as other vehicles.

They also operate unpredictably random or not at all when switch is placed on one of the various intermittent positions. This failure causes problems with visibility, increasing risk of crash. There is a recall on 1995 s-10s (NHTSA id #98v150001) for a similar problem involving deterioration of soldering joints on the windshield wipers circuit. No known recall for 1998.

Driving in the rain the windshield wipers fail at random positions. The last incident happened on a country road where there was no shoulder to pull off on to. A very dangerous situation because the drivers visibility was severely restricted to on coming traffic. Gm should cover this very dangerous problem on the 1998 model as it very obvious that this model has the same problem as the 1997's.

Problem started in 1999 with erratic operation of the windshield wipers and continued until failure. This seems to be an extension of NHTSA #03v159000 campaign. The part replaced was manufactured by itt automotive part #pcb 24006727 rev. C dealer fp-number 12463090 description module 16. O67.

Windshield wipers quit working while raining. Has done this for the last 2 1/2 years. Thankfully I have not wrecked. Everyone I have talked to has said that there is a recall for 1996 and 1997 models but not for 1998's. Well there needs to be. Nothing has been to correct the failure be cause cheverolet says there is nothing wrong because there is no recall on this year model. I don't have the money to replace every part and see by trial and error. I've read that it might be a circuit board. I guess its going to take someone getting killed to do something about it.

Windshield wiper failure, wipers have failed many times over the 3 years that we have owned this truck. We have went to several mechanics for help and no solutions have worked. An auto tech. Instructor told my son that the S10 has a weak system and that new ends could not be ordered for connections. Several people who have S10's have told me that they have the same problem. This my teenage sons truck and I fill that chevorlet should recall and fix the problem.

Wipers may not come on or may stop during use. Also wiper speed control does not always work.

Winshield wipers malfuntioned at random times. There is a recall where gm bulletin # 03023 dated may 2003 lists all 1997 S10 pickups involved, yet when I called , they said my VIN # 1gccs19x3v8196621 is not included. I have been told to take it to a dealer and pay to have it fixed and keep the records in case it is recalled later.

About 2 weeks ago, the windshield wipers on my 1997 S10 pickup began to intermittently malfunction (there have been 4 instances of this so far). In my ensuing investigation of the problem, I learned that there is a recall to fix the problem. On 9-8-2004 I took the vehicle to southview Chevrolet in inver grove heights, mn to get the wiper module replaced. After entering the VIN number into their computer, they told me my S10 wasn't elligible to have the repairs done at no cost to me. Even though one of their documents stated that the recall was for beginning of production to end of production, they said that the recall expired 2-29-2004. I then called Chevrolet's 800-222-1020 number and asked 2 people why I wasn't notified of a recall, and how can a recall expire. I was issued a service request # 1-257047512, and was told that it was not a recall, but was a special policy that had the above expiration date. Further investigation brought me to your website where I found NHTSA campaign id number: 03v159000 which refers to a recall for this problem on 97 S10 Chevrolets and, futher, refers to gm recall no. 03023. Chevy seems to be using semantics to give me the run-around so they won't have to replace my wiper module. I plan to write to the chevy ceo to bitterly complain and to let him know that there will be no more chevys for me. While driving, in inclement weather the windshield wipers would come on and go off on their own. The problem was intermittent. The dealer was aware of the problem. The driver informed the mechanic this vehicle was on recall, but the mechanic informed the consumer that this vehicle was not on recall. The dealer later contacted the consumer and informed him that is vehicle was part of the recall.

Windshield wipers have occasionally stopped working while driving in the rain. I recieved a bulletin from Chevrolet stating that some vehicles were being recalled because of this problem. I took my S10 pickup to a dealership for the repairs and they refused because my truck is a 1998 model and they said the recall was for 1997 models. Someone I spoke with said that cleaning the contacts on the curcuit board would remedy this situation. I did this and it seemed to take care of the problem. However it happened again recently. I read that the nthsa had been looking into this matter, but I cant find any information.
