Wipers just stopped working while driving in the rain. Unable to get them to turn back on. Seems to be eerily similar to a previous recall (03v159000) of earlier year model vehicles. Recall needs to be extended ASAP to cover 1998+ year model vehicles.

We own 2-2003 s-10s same year models and color. The only thing different are the motors. Both have been having the windshield wipers go out while in a heavy rainstorms and on busy interstates.

This is second vehicle of previous complaint. We have two 2003 Chevrolet s-10s where the wipers stop working during rain. In most cases during heavy rains while driving on highways and interstates. Vehicle has to be pulled over and the hood has to be raised to tap the motor to be able to continue.
I just bought the truck used and sometimes the windshield wipers will work and sometimes they will not come on at all. It does this whether it is stationary, in motion, on a city street or a highway, turning, braking, hot or cold weather, etc. It is unsafe when it is raining because the wipers do not clear the windshield of rain, snow, sleet, water from other vehicles on the road passing or ahead of you or sleet. You cannot see clearly where you are driving. I was told by a friend they had a recall on the 1997 wiper motor on his S10 truck. Thought this might be the same problem. The two owners before me had the same problem with it. I am not sure who the orginal owner is or was.
My dad purchased my truck from the church secretary where he attended in March of 2015. At the time of purchase it only had 66,000 miles on it. The secretary’s father owned it and used it from new until 6 months before we purchased it and only used it to help feed his cows. 1. Window washer motor circuit 2. Seatbelt need’s stitched 3. The overload sticker is wrong came in after we purchased the truck but my dad was sick and he passed away 3/8/2016 coated brake rotor & hub assembly (86757cr)x2 tie rod end (ncd 2693017)x2 ball joint front lower (ncd 2601130)x2 tie rod end control arm front left (ncd 2605330) tie rod end control arm and ball joint front right upper (ncp 2605329) tie rod adjusting sleeve front (ncd 2691109)x2 idler arm assembly (ncd 2683654) tie rod end outer (ncd 2683267)x2 steering center link (ncd 2721591) too much noise and when making a parking lot turn it felt and sounded like I was gonna lose my whole front end on the ground.

The windshield wipers operate sporadically when turned on. Some times when you turn them on, they will operate normally and other times they will not turn on at all. The vehicle make and model were included in a recall but my VIN was not included in the recall. The problem can occur when the vehicle is moving or stopped in the driveway or parking lot. (reference gm recall 03023).

Tl-the contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet S10. The contact started the vehicle and the window wipers were activated however, operated intermittently. The failure occurred whenever engaging the window wipers in rainy weather conditions which caused a reduction in the visibility. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 03v159000 (visibility). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000. Js.
When trying to use the wipers the switch refuses to operate correctly. Been replaced twice ( this happens under all three switches). When you turn it on it will not respond and does not wipe. When you use the single wipe will wipe continuall and not shut off at times. Some times when you use the fluid will not turn off unless you turn the engine off and restart the vechile. When in the first two notches for wiping will start to wipe and stop about 1/4 of the way up the windshield. In high position operates as if normal, must set it above high to get it to operate in high. Sometimes it only operates at one speed no matter the position except when in high mode. Many times will not turn on when you turn it on and when you turn it off will not turn of if working. This is the third switch that has done this to me. ? is there a recall on gm switches as I can find none and many people say they have experienced same results on other gm vehicles or heard of it occurring.
Wipers come on and off when they wont to. .
Wipers do not always start or stop when switch is turned on/off. Intermittent setting does not work, wipers will continue to work as if turned on and not in intermittent mode. Wiper blade will stop at different intervals on windshield.
Same as other complaints. Wipers stopped working during a rainstorm. Have changed the motor twice and recently started doing the same thing. Also both cables in the lid corroded and broke. Using some chains to hold until able to find and buy the cables. Will get the VIN number to see if it was ever part of a recall I wasn't aware of.
The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet S10. While parked, the contact noticed the windshield wiper was not functioning. The contact stated he was a mechanic, who inspected the vehicle and determined that the failure was caused by the circuit board. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 03v159000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer) but was advised by the manufacturer that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet S10. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph in rainy weather with the windshield wipers activated. Suddenly and without warning, the wipers failed to operate. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road and eventually the windshield wipers began to function after continuously turning the control mechanism forcefully. There was a recall related to the defect under NHTSA campaign id number 03v159000 (visibility: windshield wiper/washer). The dealer and manufacturer were notified and they informed the contact that the vehicle was ineligible for the recall repair due to the age of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000. Kmj.
The contact owns a 1998 Chevrolet S10. The contact stated that the windshield wipers would fail intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 148,000.
Windshield wipers stopped working while driving in a heavy rain storm. I pulled to the side of the road and tried all different setting but wiper did not work so I parked the vehicle. The next day I checked and they had started working again. I found a recall notice (03v159000) while researching what might cause this type of problem, but when I contacted a dealer they could not find any record of the recall. I also contacted Chevrolet (800 222-1020) on June 10th 2010, but they also told me there was no recall in effect?.
Windshield wipers work off & on.
Wipers intermittently stop working.
Wipers quit working.

The wipers on my 1998 Chevrolet s-10 frequently stop operating and when they do come back on they will not turn off. They have shut down during a rain and have caused me to have to pull out of traffic when I could and wait for them to come back on, most times they have to be turned off completely, and sometimes will not come back on. I believe this is a serious safety hazard and should be recalled.
Windshield wipers work only intermittently or not at all. Problem is exacerbated by bumpy roads. Online research shows this is apparently a common problem related to cracked solder joints on the wiper control circuit board, a problem for which two recalls have already been issued by Chevrolet but which do not extend to the 1998 model year. Wipers will often shut off unexpectedly while driving in heavy rain. Obviously, this is a serious safety issue and the previous recalls that only cover up to 1997 need to be extended to cover later model vehicles which suffer from the same safety problem. (the incident date in this complaint is a random date selected shortly after I purchased the vehicle and around the time I first noticed the problem. This issue is ongoing and has become increasingly severe since then. ).
The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet s-10. The contact stated that the windshield wipers stop and start automatically when the motor is running. The dealer stated that the VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign id number 03v159000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer). The contact stated that he could wait until his vehicle is included in the recall. The failure mileage was 71,100.
Windshield wipers stopped working. Checked all the fuses and found no problems. Windshield wipers well at times and stopped at very bad times; heavy rain times. After several days of chasing wires I found the micro soldering on the wipers computer board cracked in several places. The wire harness vibrated on it and the engine overheated it. The entire system needs a better attachment for the wire harness and some form of insulation from the engine.
The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet S10. The contact stated that the windshield wipers work intermittently. The dealer informed him that his VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03v159000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer). The manufacturer and dealer stated that the vehicle would not be repaired according to the recall. The failure mileage was 140,000.
Windshield wipers on my 1998 s-10 will stop working for no reason. Will remain off for an indeterminate time and will sometimes change operation even though I have not touched the operating knob. 1995-1997 s-10 pickups were recalled for the very same problem. This has been happening during almost every rain storm for almost 2 years.
I have a 1998 Chevrolet s-10 pickup and it has a recurring fault with the windshield wiper motor. At various intervals, with no warning, the windshield wiper will fail to operate. This has happened numerous times, often during rain and causes me to pull over to either wait out the rain or for the motor to unexpectedly restart. In my research, I have found that 1995-1997 Chevrolet s-10 pickups had the same problem and were recalled. It was a wiper motor circuit board problem which lead to the recalls. I feel the 1998 pickups should be recalled as it seems to be a problem with others on the mycarstats. Com message board.
