4 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem of the 1998 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 06/06/2007

I recently purchased a 1998 chevy S10 pickup truck. The windshield wipers exhibit the exact behavior described in NHTSA saftety recall bulletin #03023--the wipers only work intermittently, obviously dangerous here in rainy washingon state. It is my strong belief this vehicle should be included in the recall which now only covers 1995-1997. I would guess it is highly likely this '98 has the same wiper motor circuit board installed as the previous years had.

7 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem of the 1997 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 03/25/2006

I own a 1997 chevy S10 and my windshield wipers just stop working. I called the dealership and corporate to find out if my truck fell under the recall you have on your site regarding this truck and they said no. It is the exact same problem reported on your site but according to them only a few of their vehicles had this problem and mine is not one of them. I am having it repaired at my own expense and the description the dealer gave me as to what failed is word for word on the recall but they say it is different.

8 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem of the 1998 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 03/07/2006

This is the same problem as others have listed. I turn on the wipers and they sometimes turn on, sometimes don't, other times they go at similar speeds, other times they will not shut off. This seems to be the same as the 97 s-10 recall, this needs to be extended. My dealer told me it would be $800 to fix this problem, I have elected to take my chances.

9 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem of the 1997 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 01/11/2006

The windshield wipers in my Chevrolet s-10 (VIN#1gccs14x1v8140751) are defective and Chevrolet refuses to fix them. They say no active recall is in effect. Driving with no wipers is dangerous and Chevrolet says it is my responsibility to fix them. Being a Chevrolet owner for more than twenty years makes me think twice about buying another one, if this is how they treat their customers.

10 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem of the 1997 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 10/24/2005

I received a letter from gm stating there was a safety issue with the windshield wiper motor on my 1997 Chevrolet S10 pickup. The letter stated this was not a recall and that the part should be replaced once the problem occurred. I started to experience the problem after the expiration date on the letter. I took my vehicle to the dealership to see if they could help me. I was informed that they could not. They advised that I should contact gm. I called gm on Monday oct 24, 2005 and spoke to jeff kenly and will blechel, both of which were very rude and uncooperative with me. I asked about the expiration date on the letter, and how that date was chosen and will told me that this was a decision made by gm and that he did not have to reveal that information to me. I don't understand how a date can be put on a known defect in the vehicle. Monday morning, I was traveling down the highway doing 65 mph in rush hour traffic when my wipers decided to stop working. The rain was coming down pretty hard and it was still dark out. All of a sudden I couldn't see, I slammed on the breaks and tried to get off the road, I came very close to causing an accident which could have injured me or someone else. I have been researching this on the internet and let me just say; it was not difficult at all to find all kinds of information about this issue. I found documents from other people who have had this same problem with gm vehicles. Some have had recalls while others have not. I donã‚t understand how can they recall some, but not the others? I understand that on July 22, 2004 gm was fined $1 million to settle charges that it failed to conduct a timely recall to correct a safety defect. The problem involved windshield wiper failure in 581,344 trailblazers, bravadas, envoys and isuzu ascenders manufactured in 2002 and 2003. I just thought that you should know that this is a much bigger problem than you may be aware of. I think this should be looked into further.

1998 Chevrolet blazer windhshield wipers do not work on a consistant basis. The worst scenerio was when my son broke his arm and we were leaving the emergency room. Minutes after getting in the car a terrible rain storm hit and made it almost impossible to see. We pulled over and sat for about 1 1/2 hours - when we should have been at the pharmacy getting his pain pills. To me, this is unacceptable. There have been too many times to even recall as to when the wipers have not worked. The recall needs to include 1998 blazers!!! dls.
