While driving during rainy weather windshield wipers intermittently failed.

I have a 1998 Chevrolet S10 pick-up that the windshield wiper motor periodically stops. This can occur at any time when the wipers are on. I know there was a recall by Chevrolet on other models related to this failure. The wiper motor components used in the s-10 series resemble the same as what was used in other models that were under the recall notification. Could these be related? how can I find out if other owners are experiencing the same problems? the last date of the failure was 3/1/04. This sudden stoppage of the wiper motor could potentially cause accidents by obscuring the vision of the driver.

While driving in rainy weather, after vehicle was warmed up, front windshield wipers failed. Windshield wipers worked with no problem in cold weather. Dealership was notified, but the problem was not resolved.

Trucks with a defective windshield wiper module that causes the wipers to stop working. Gm has limited the recall of this defective part for vehicle up to 1997 even though the part is used in 1998 vehicles. 1998 chevy s-10 the wipers stopped working . I called chevy dealer where I was told that the defective part had been recalled for vehicles only upto 1997. . Due to this defective part. Gm needs to modify this recall to include 1998.

1998 chevy s-10 pickup. Windshield wipers only function intermittently, or sometimes not at all. If they do function, the intermittent feature does not work properly. The wipers often stop in the middle of the windshield. I have called a dealer regarding repair, was told that only 1996 and 1997 s-10s were included. I called chevy customer service and they said the same thing. Dealer told me it was a circuit board in the windshield wiper motor and I could do it myself for about 100 dollars. Gm should be fixing these on the 1998s before someone gets hurt.

Wipers are intermittent. Will turn on and sometimes nothing will happen. Other times the only function I can get to work is "mist". Sometimes whan the switch is on intermittent the wipers will switch back and forth between low and intermittent.

Windsheild wiper will run and then stop when it is raining and will even continue to run when I turn them off after the rain has stoped. I traced the problem wiper motor. When the wipers stop I pull to the side of the road and wiggle the electrical connector on the wiper motor and its magic they work for 5 mins and then you repeat the process. With speed limits of 70 mph I do not recommend doing this on highways, pull over and wait till the rain ends ( hotel may be required). We need help with this problem, gm does not care, they want me to buy a new motor from them, this one is defective and the say there is not a problem. I do not need to purchase another defective part from them.

Intermittently, the windshield wipers became inoperable, obstructing the driver's view. A recall had been issued on similar makes and models, however this vehicle was not included due to the VIN. The windshield wipers did not respond while driving in the rain. The consumer pulled over, then the wipers suddenly began to work.

The S10's windshield wipers work intermittently at best. The wipers will start sometimes and work ok. Other times, they will not start, or will stop on their own. . . . Usually during the worst possible time. This is very similar to complaints made on 1996 1997 s-10s where there is a recall on the wiper system.

Windshield wipers only work when they want too.

Front windshield wipers fail to operate on an intermittent basis. Nhtsa has a recall on this or a similar problem. John l. Sullivan, a Chevrolet dealer, states that the recall does not cover this item on my 1997 Chevrolet S10 pickup. I paid them to get it fixed, since it is a safety issue and I would be negligent not to do so.

Wipers motor not functioning properly. Wipers quit working suddenly & sometimes will not start at all. Wipers will speed up on their own accord and don't shut off promptly.

My 1998 Chevrolet s-10 a had bad windshield wiper control board problem that was recalled in other s-10's upto 1997. Should consider expanding recall.

Consumer called complaining about windshield wiper problems. Stated that while driving during a real bad rain storm windshield wipers stopped working which almost caused the consumer to get into a collision. Consumer had to pull out of the highway, and had to touch the wipers for them to start working again. Dealer was contacted, and stated that there was a recall, but consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.

Windshield wipers stop working in heavy rain, almost lost control over this malfunction, 94-97 Chevrolet s-10's have the wiper motor recall, why not the 98's??? I know more people with 98's that are having trouble then the people with the 94-97's. . . If a recall isn't issued someone is going to get hurt because of these wiper motors! jz.

On this specified day, I was traveling on the interstate at 70 mph with a semi-truck traveling beside me when a sudden rain storm came up. My windshield wipers stopped working. In a matter of seconds I was blinded. It was very scary! I was very lucky when crossing the lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder of the interstate that I did not kill someone else or myself. Not to mention dodging the car parked on the side of the interstate. On another incident back in January when I was on my way to the doctor's office, my wipers quit while it was sleeting. Instantly the windshield was frozen over. At other times the wipers will not come on and sometimes they will not turn off.

Windshield wiper motor cuts on and off. Once again I have to change all my plans because it is raining.

Nhsta recall campaign id# 03v15900 applies to chevy s-10's through 1997. The recall relates to faulty wiper motor circuit boards that lead to intermittent operation of wiper blades. I own a 1998 chevy s-10 and have experienced numerous failures of the wiper blades during rain storms. The most severe incident happened during heavy rains on June 4, when I lost the use of my wipers for 20 minutes. I have described the problem to mechanics who informed me of the recall and indicated that it is most likely the same problem as that of the recall. The recall should be extended to model year 1998 as soon as possible.

Windshield wipers do not function at all times. Will stop while driving. One such incident , I was driving on an interstate highway at 70 mph when they stopped, nearly causing an accident. Luckily, I was able to pull off the road and wait for the rain to stop before proceeding. Wipers started working again shortly after that.

The new recall on gm trucks and SUV's only goes to 97'. I have a 98' with the same problem.

Windshield wipers on 1998 Chevrolet s-10 stopped unexpectedly while in use, or don't even come on when switch is turned on.

1998 chevy s 10. . . Windshield wipers stop working when in rain. . . . . Never know when it is going to happen, other than when rains. . . . . I also have a 1997 chevy s 10 blazer which does the same thing. . . Chevy has recalled those motors to be fixed. . . But when I called them to tell them of the same problem with the 1998. . . . They said they would not cover that. . . . I told them of having both vehicles (I bought both of them new). . . . That I knew the problem was exactly the same. . . . Was told to drive to dealer where I bought the vehicle. . . . And was told there it would not be covered. Last occurrence was 4,21,03. . . . .

Vehicle experienced the same defect with it's windshield wiper motor as stated in recall 03 v 159 000, but the VIN number was not included. The windshield wipers were intermittent.

Windshield wiper sporadically fails to function. When wiper control is switched on wiper will sometimes function and sometimes not function. This is very hazardous in rainy conditions and has almost caused me to collide with other vehicles on more than one occasion. I have absolutely no confidence that my wiper will work for any period of time. This defect very closely resembles and recall notice sent out to owners of 95-97 Chevrolet s-10 owners in which they offer to repair the defect at no charge. Since my vehicle was labeled as a 98 model year Chevrolet they will not do nothing for me in spite of the fact that it could have just as easily been labeled a 97 model. I have filed a complaint with gm at 1800-222-1020 (my service request number 1-120539042). They informed me that they will only be able to assist me if enough complaints come in to them to warrant a recall on the 98 model year s-10.
