Three problems related to brake sensor have been reported for the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the brake pedal shakes when attempting to engaged it. The problem recurred several times. The vehicle was taking to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the sensor was rusted and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000. Abs engages at slow speeds - evidently there is a known problem with the abs sensors engaging at low speeds. This is a potentially dangerous defect. It is scary when you approach a stop and the brakes release. Gm has known about this problem and has issued a service bulletin. There was a recall on previous years but stopped in 06 even though they never fixed the problems. They should reinstate the recall and fix the remaining vehicles. We have not been involved in an accident because of the defective sensors but I consider us fortunate.
Service brakelines rotted and caused a complete loss of service brakes - while driving and close to home - used emergency brakes and low gear to get to home. Spoke to friend at chevy dealer. They are having problems with this truck series due to corrosion and premature rusting. Truck is currently in garage due to failure (corrosion) of transmission cooling lines. Current mileage 15,211. Lost both anti-lock brake modules and alternator and temperature sensors.
