3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2015

While traveling on the expressway in my 2006 Chevrolet Silverado with 26,000 miles on the odometer, I attempted a transient lane change while taking evasive action in order to avoid a hazardous situation. When coupled with the brakes I noticed longer than usual engagement. As a result, I was forced onto the shoulder and had to use multiple downshifts in concert with the emergency brake to bring the vehicle to a halt. It sounded like a train stopping on rails. I proceeded to drive home with hazards on,u never exceeding third gear. The following morning I noticed clear oil underneath the front end of the vehicle. I believe this is an extremely dangerous vehicle and a less experienced driver would have been killed or extremely injured. Lastly, I have also been noticing inconsistency with steering resistance. Sometimes the steering is considerably looser than at other times. I have dismissed this disconcerting sensation by assuming it is weather/humidity related.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2015

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving at approximately 50 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond without warning. After the brakes were applied continuously, the speed reduced to 10 mph. The vehicle came to a complete stop when the emergency brake was applied. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

My left front wheel hub assembly failed while driving. Brake system was compromised. I was able to pull over and stop safely, but brakes did not respond as they should. Moreover, there was no indication that the wheel bearing was failing, and I am quite aware of what this sounds like because this will be the fourth time I have replaced the wheel hub assembly on the left side. I have replaced the right hub assembly twice. In all previous times, I heard a slight whirling noise or at worse slight grinding, which would lead me to inspection and replacement before failure. This time it failed without any warning. I believe gm has made a serious design and/or quality error in this truck. This should be investigated because this is a common problem.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while attempting to come to a complete stop, the breaks failed to stop the vehicle, so the emergency break was applied. The vehicle was brought to an independent mechanic to be repaired, and it was diagnosed that all of the break lines and fuel lines needed to be repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,000.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2014

While applying breaks on dry surfaces and coming to a stop the abs kicks in and pedal goes to the floor. This causes the stopping distance to increase. I have almost rear-ended stopped and parked cars and ran into my garage door. There have been to many close calls so I have pulled the fuse to shut off the abs.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2014

Breaklines have corroded,rotted out.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

When I backed out of my driveway , which is on an incline , the brake pedal went to the floor and I just missed backing out into a busy road. I took the truck in for repairs immediately following the incident. The repairs cost nearly $750. They said that most all of the break lines were rusted and the one on the rear drivers side hade a hole rusted through.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2013

Upon driving home on my street my brake pedal went to the floor. Have break line corroded and leaking below driver side door. Was able to stop safely as I was on a residential road with a low speed limit.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

I have found that the steel lines running along the frame rails are runsting and found a patch in one place and the possibility of more leaks happening.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2013

Returning home, I approached a 4-way stop at about 40 mph. Attempted to stop, only limited brakes. Gearing down and defensive driving necessary to avoid accident at intersection. Able to complete short distance home where I inspected brakes and uncovered rusted and leaking break lines. Vehicle with less than 90,000 miles. Extremely dangerous and gm/NHTSA should be ashamed that a recall has not been initiated. Only a matter of time before someone is not as lucky as me and other complainants.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2013

Every brake gas and cooling line rusted. I have looked at other vehicles of same year and miles different makes. No where as rusted as my 06 Silverado.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2013

The vehicle was parked and I enterred it to start it. When I applied my foot to the brake pedal I heard a loud pop (like a balloon popping) and a recoil in the brake pedal. Come to find out, the diaphragm in the brake booster broke thus leaving me with very little brakes. I am just glad I was the one behind the wheel and the vehicle was in park. I can only imagine if this had happened while driving through town. Or if someone like my 18 year old son had been driving. After speaking with multiple mechanics, it was brought to my attention that this is one of those things that "never happens". . . Especially on a 2006 with only 63k miles on it. When I called Chevrolet they told me that it would be noted but they could not help cover the cost of repair as it was not under warranty. Although I do know it's out of warranty, I thought they might cover it as it is not a wear and tear issue. . . It is a mechanical defect and a major safety issue. It has been repaired and I'm just hoping it does not occur again. Unfortunately there is absolutely no way at all to predict if and when this will ever occur on any other vehicle. I just hope it doesnt happen to mine again.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2013

Abs kick in at low speeds increasing stopping distance by several feet.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2012

The brakes on this vehicle fail at low speeds (approx. 5 mph). This is a known problem for this vehicle. Chevy has issued a technical bulletin on this problem (low speed abs activation, bulletin #03-05-25-007c). I had this problem repaired in October 2010. Now the same problem is occurring again, roughly 10,000 miles later. Information about this problem is readily available online. Many Silverado owners have complained about it. Please advise if there has been any recall action on this issue. I believe there was a recall on prior models, but not 2006 and beyond models, although it is clearly still a problem.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Abs applies for no reason at 10 to 5 mph. Making truck travel 6 to 15 feet beyond expected stopping distance. I think this is very dangerous.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the right and left wheel hub assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000. The VIN was unavailable. Pam.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

Activation of abs braking system on 2006 Silverado 1500 on clean dry pavement at low speed resulting in increased braking distance. Problem seems to be increasing in frequency. .

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2010

The abs system in my 2006 chevy Silverado does not function properly at low speed. The abs activates when braking causing the vehicle to travel further when coming to a stop. After researching the problem on the internet I found that this is an ongoing issue with GMC vehicles.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2010

2006 Chevrolet Silverado extended cad 4x4 had the abs kick in at low speeds, when not needed. Thia was part of a recall for earlier model year trucks of the same make and model but was never fully corrected by gm.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2009

Continual unwanted abs activation during low speed brake application on a 2006 Silverado. Virtually the same problem that was addressed by NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2009

The abs on my 2006 Silverado activates on low speed stops on dry pavement causing the brakes to release. I have almost rear-ended vehicles because of this. The dealer says I have to pay to get it fixed. I've been out of warranty for only 2 months and there's only 19,000 miles on the truck. There's a chevy tech bulletin out on the problem too. Why hasn't there been a recall? how can I get the dealer to correct this flaw in their abs system without paying $700?.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2006

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that the rotor on the vehicle's brakes is warped. While driving 55 mph, the front axle pulsates and shakes when the brakes are applied. The failure occurs under any road conditions. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure. The engine size was unknown. The current mileage is 22,000 and failure mileage was 18,000.
