Chevrolet Silverado owners have reported 42 problems related to air brake wheel speed sensor (under the air brake category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The abs brakes sensors failed almost causing me to rearend a vehicle. There is a service bulletin to gm dealers on cleaning or replacing the sensors. My truck only has 38,000 miles and the dealer wants $140 to repair what I think is a defect in design or location of the sensor.

When applying the brakes at a low speed, the brake pedal forcde itself back up and caused severe extended stopping distance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer informed the consumer that the front speed sensor needed to be cleaned. Both speed sensors were replaced.

1998 chev Silverado with less than 23,000 mi had to have almost entire break system replaces during an 8 mo. Period in 2004. Replaces drums, pads, master cylinder & had to replace seal to master cylinder due to corrosion. Also, replaced anit-lock brake sensor due to brakes kicking in at low speeds.

Increased stopping distance when brakes applied under 10 mph and abs fails. . . My vehicle slammed into a cement pole in parking space causing $1600 damage. . . Original dealership refused to accept responsibility as vehicle was in their repair shop the very day before for exact complaint and was not addressed. . . Second dealership immediately knew the problem and corrected the problem by replacing front speed sensors.

I recently came to a stop sign and could not stop the truck. As I crossed the intersection I thought I was going to die! fortunatly, the driver from the other vehicle was alert and avoided what could have been a serious situation. The abs started to pulse under dry conditions when the truck slowed down to less than 5mph, but continued to roll for another 20-30 feet before it came to a stop. Abs should be a safety feature - not an unreliable device that can get someone killed. My truck is over 36,000 miles so it is no longer under warranty. I am told that it will cost somewhere between $500 -$1000 to fix, but there was no guarantee that this would not happen again. At this time I have pulled the abs 60a fuse and I feel much safer without the gm abs system. This is a serious gm problem and I can't believe that there isn't a fix, recall, or consumer notification. I won't believe this is the first time this has happen, since the service managers are familiar with this problem. After pulling the abs fuse, I don't like the abs and brake indicators lite up on my instrument panel. I would like to disable the abs, so that the lights no longer light up on my panel. Can someone please send me instructions on how to disable the abs properly.
I own a 1999 chev. Silverado. About 2 years ago I had problems with the anti-lock brakes failing at low speeds. I had it serviced and it was due to corrosion. The problem is starting to reappear again.
The brakes failed to stop the vehicle. Ph.
