After sitting on the tailgate the cable snapped. There were no injuries. . Recall 04v129000 was issued for 2000 and 2004 models. The part number was the same for the 1999 and 2000 models.

The cable to the tailgate broke while loading. Dealer was notified. Dealer informed consumer that this vehicle was not covered under the recall due to VIN.

Consumer was standing on the tailgate when cables broke. As a result, consumer was thrown to the ground. No injuries reported.

2001 chevy truck strap holding tailgate failed in center of cable throwing me to ground.

Right side of the tailgate cable snapped. This occurred when loading a small mower. The tailgate pulled away in the process. The left side was still attached and bent a pin on the inside of the bed as well as the hinges on both sides on the inside of the bed and also bent the tailgate. May be related to recall# 04v129000.

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. Mine was not recalled due to tailgate cable failures. My tailgate cables have in fact failed. General motors needs to recall all of these vehicles for cable failure.

The consumer stated that the straps which held the tailgate in place broke, forcing the driver to fall to the ground injuring himself. The owner contacted the manufacturer and was told that only the trucks from 2000 to 2004 were being recalled. However, this problem is occurring in other models as well. Provide further details.

I received a safety recall notice from general motors in April 2004 indicating the tailgate cables on a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado I purchased were defective and would be replace when new ones become available. Both cables without warning in July 2004 while I was sitting on the tailgate. Luckily, I was not injured. But the potential for injury exists. I did fall to the ground. The cables were replaced by gm free of charge with the same style. I have contacted gm recently (Feb. 8 & 9, 2005) about the permanent replacement cables. They have informed me this vehicle is not part of the recall to replace the cables even though mine have failed before and I received a recall notice.

While loading lumber into my 1999 chevy k1500 Silverado the tailgate support cables broke releasing the tailgate. The weight of the lumber caused the tailgate to rest on the rear bumper causing minor damage to the tailgate. The lumber itself nearly knocked myself and a friend to the ground. The replacement cables cost me $31. 00 dollars from the dealer, but then I find out that the 2000-2004 Silverado's have been recalled for the exact problem I have and the replacement cables sold to me by the dealer are the same faulty cables I had to begin with and that I am not eligible for the recall.

While placing the lawn mower onto the tailgate the strap broke. This vehicle was not included in the NHTSA recall, talgate support cable 04v129000. . Consumer replaced both tailgate cables at his own expense.

I was on a float trip in the southeastern part of missouri. I lent my truck to one of my fraternity brothers to drive to the back of the campsite to get a paper so that we could board the bus. My tailgate was down while he was driving and on the way back, driver's side cable on the tailgate snapped and the tailgate fell from the truck. The passenger side cable remained secure to the tailgate and it was drug behind the truck for about 300 yards. There was damage to the tailgate itself on both sides from the rocks it was drug over. It scraped off the spray on bed liner that was on the tailgate and, because one of the cables was still attatched, beat against my bumber causing many little dents on it. I talked to gm and they said they would not fix anything because it was not under warranty and it had not been recalled. My dad is in the process of bondoing the tailgate and we will have to replace the cables, the spray in liner and get the tailgate repainted.

Contact received recall 04v129000 concerning tailgate: hinge and attachments. The dealer replaced the galvanized steel straps with the same type of straps. The recall letter indicated the replacement should be stainless steel. The vehicle was experiencing the same problems as indicated on the recall letter.

The plastic tailgate handle bezel keeps falling out everytime the tailgate is lowered. It may fly off while driving in traffic, causing an accident behind my truck.

Tailgate fell off pickup chevy. Silverado pickup truck . Ttailgate dropped down while I was driving. Cable on passenger side broke causing tailgate to drop off truck. Tailgate damage $ 178. 00 bill from collision shop two new cables $ 29. 23 bill from chevy dealership ideal chev. Geneseo NY. New cables need to be replaced when gm comes out with new replacements. Contacted Chevrolet moters at 800-630-2438 on June 1,2004. Sr31-222651780 advised that parts & damaged not covered at this time. Cables were rusted. I have broken cable. While driving 35 mph tailgate cable snapped on the passenger side because it was rusted and corroded.

Tailgate cable broke completly while loading a mower, damaging my tailgate and inner bed hinges as well as the outer hinge on the tailgate itself. I noticed that the 2000 and up models were recalled but, mine was not a part of the recall. My model is exact to the ones currently recalled because it was the first year of the new style change-over. I would appreciate some investigation and/or feedback. Thank you, mike ireland.

Recall no. #04v129000, tailgate support cable: the tailgate support cable has broken on the vehicle. The consumer received a recall letter but, the manufacturer insisted that the letter was not a recall letter. The manufacturer informed the consumer that an actual recall letter is due out this summer.

Bracketts that hold tailgate broke at the same spot on both sides at the same time causing tailgate to fall against bumper.

While loading the vehicle both cables of the tailgate broke at the same time. Consumer fell off and broke his ankle. Dealer notified.

Consumer was informed by the dealership that the parts to perform the tailgate support cable recall 04v129000 weren't available, and he will be contacted when they become available. Almost a year later, the dealership told the consumer he was no longer was eligible for the recall.

While the vehicle was parked, the driver/passenger side tail gate straps snapped. This occured while the consumer loaded an atv in the back of the vehicle. Both cables on the tail gate broke at the same time. The cables showed no sign of problem before. Both cables were replaced with new gm factory cables of the same material. The cables were recalled on the 2000-2004 models. They were replaced with stainless steel.

Recall 04v129000 concerning tailgate support cable. While stepping off the tailgate it suddenly dropped. Consumer sustained minor injuries. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the cables with some temporary support cables until they learned more about this recall. . Read more...

While driving at 55 mph, the driver heard a loud noise heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. The driver noticed that the passenger side tailgate broke off.

While driving and upon hitting a bump in the road tailgate dropped down and the belts broke. The tailgate and strap's were totally disengaged from the vehicle.

Consumer was pulling down the tailgate and the cables snapped. Consumer placed the cables inside of the vehicle and drive it to the dealer. Mechanic informed consumer that no cables were available.

I was standing on the tailgate and unloading a box from the bed of my truck when both cables holding the tailgate snapped.
