1 Abs Brake Fail problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2014

At different times the brakes would make a chatter noise and then no brakes. It seemed to have brakes after I would hit the pedal again. This time they chattered as I was stopping to pull on the highway and I had no brakes at all. I was proceeding onto the highway and there was a loaded 18 wheeler with logs bearing down on me. I saw what was going to happened so I accelerated at a high rate of speed and shot across the highway out of the trucks path. Thank goodness no vehicles was in the other lane. I checked with a local Chevrolet dealer and they said there was a recall in the northern states for this problem but not in our area. He said it would cost around 1200 to 1400 dollars to repair the abs system failure. Last fall I was towing my camper home and the brake busted on the rear of the vehicle and leaving me with no brakes. Once again I was lucky and had no accident. I had it towed to a local shop and had it repaired. He said it was a common problem of the lines rusting on the gm vehicles. I know the truck is a 2000 model but I had a 1958 Chevrolet truck with over 300,000 miles on it and had no problems what so ever. Seems like the new improved safety products are not so safe after all. Thank you for your interest.

2 Abs Brake Fail problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2010

2000 chevy silverado - unwanted abs activation. Attempted to stop on a declining driveway - abs came on - est. Going slow between +/- 4-10 mph. Vehicle did not stop and crashed into back of parked car causing significant damage (~$2k) to car. Truck continues to have abs stopping failure at slow speeds. Was part of recall in 2006; 'corrected' by dealer. Concern 'correction' did not fix issue. Truck driven daily (no choice) . . . Concerned with safety.

3 Abs Brake Fail problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

Abs failing at low speeds. Have cleaned both sensors, checked voltage and the problem still occurs. I hit my gate at the house where I park the truck because the truck would not stop and ran forward.

4 Abs Brake Fail problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2007

The abs failed in my truck, causing me to hit a trailer parked in my driveway. While gm has already "repaired" this under a previous recall, their "repair" obviously doesn't work. They were unresponsive about my complaint, since my truck had already been "repaired". If someone would have been walking in front of my truck when the brakes failed, I would have killed them. It is one thing to have the radio quit working, it is an entirely different thing to have the brakes totally fail. Gm needs to do something about this besides cleaning a couple sensors. There were no warning lights, no indication whatsoever of the impending failure. I backed up and the brakes worked fine. There are still no warning lights. I spoke with the dealership and their answer was "there isn't anything we can test for this intermittent problem. We can try to get it to fail and go from there". I now have a 6000 lb projectile that I have no idea if it is going to stop or not. I removed the abs fuse until I can figure out what to do with this unreliable product.
