1 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2018

Brake line burst below driver's door. Was able to stop without crashing as I was only moving a few miles per hour in a driveway, though there was very little braking capacity. I see in a search that this is a very common problem with several years of gm trucks. Gm apparently admitted they used inferior steel for brake lines. This is obviously a serious safety hazard.

2 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2018

Brake line under the cab broke due to rust. I live in east tennessee in an area that does not use excessive amounts of salt on the roads in the winter and always take very good care of my vehicles. I would not expect this much rust on a safety component such as the brake line. When slowing to turn off the street into my driveway the brake pedal went nearly to the floor and the brakes were very weak. There was no accident caused by the line rupture. I called the local gm dealership and was quoted in excess of $1,000 for repair.

3 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2018

Brake line corroded (from outside) and during a trip home from work, I suddenly had no brakes when brake pedal was applied. I had just arrived in my driveway and was turning around. I was probably doing 1 mph or less and vehicle was extremely difficult to stop.

4 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

The brake lines rusted through prematurely, resulting in a complete failure to stop the vehicle.

5 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2017

My 2000 Chevrolet silverado was not exposed to winter/salt conditions for the first first 13 years of it's life. Since then it has become my primary vehicle. Recently when I had to "spike" the brakes hard to avoid what might have been an accident a brake line under the drivers seat area ruptured due to corrosion. Only through evasive actions was an accident avoided. Replacement costs from a dealership is in the $800. 00 area. Were stainless steel brake lines installed during manufacture this extremely inherently dangerous problem could be avoided. While I understand the costs associated in vehicle production, the small increase would be offset in long term safety. Many vehicle safety features have been mandated over the years, certainly issues concerning brake systems must fall under that category. I am a long time commercial aircraft mechanic, stainless steel lines would prevent the problem I encountered. Judging from internet sites I'm not alone in dealing with this corrosion problem. This is a safety issue that should be looked into. Thanks for your time.

6 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2017

Brake line rusted through causing loss of braking. Luckily was in driveway when failed. Found leaking metal brake line near the abs control unit. Others are rusted too, so it is just a matter of time before they fail.

7 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2016

I was driving at 40 mph and had to stop fast and brake line broke from rust could not stop at all had no warning ended up in a field could have been really bad and had my kids with me.

8 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2016

Lost brakeing due to rusted brake lines. This almost caused a accident. Truck has 44,000 miles and has been garaged for 14 years that I have owned. There has been very little winter driving. Cost 826. 00 dollars to replace all rusted brake lines. These lines where of faulty material.

9 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2016

While driving home from town. I stopped at my mail box and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. Luckily I only had another 400 feet to make it home. The p/u is now parked, waiting on repairs. I have talked to the parts department and they tell me the brake line has rusted through and needs replaced. Why in the world would a auto manufacturer use something that rust on such a vital part of the vehicle. Especially those of us who live in an area where salt is used on the highways.

10 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2016

As I was making a turn after a stop (which felt somewhat sluggish of a stop) I went to tap the brakes and experienced complete loss of brakes. I was on a descent and immediately threw the truck into park to cut the power to wheels and pressed emergency brake which went all the way to the floor. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor and I had a split second to decide what to do as the road was causing rapid acceleration. I saw one chance to drive over a ditch and into a yard by a house. I did so, flying over the ditch. It took the length of the entire yard (about an acre of property) for the truck to eventually stop on its own. I had to have it towed where upon quick assessment mechanic said I had corroded brake lines and ruptured brake hose. This most certainly coyld have reaulted in a fatal accident as the end of this road is full of houses and sharp bend with multiple telephone poles. I am still awaiting full report on vehicle but am very upset gm has never ever advised me of this known issue. I maintained vehicle at gm dealer and am single owner. Never once was I notified. My vehicle has a little over 100,300 miles on it and I was just starting down the hill, about 10mph but rapidly the vehicle accelerated within span of 2 houses. . . Resulting in the crash and loss of vehicle use due to need for towing. Have no idea ofbspeed at the ditch as I wasn't able to look down .

11 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

Tl the contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the brake lines were rusted out. While driving, the contact depressed the brake pedal and it traveled to the floorboard. The contact had to slowly downshift to slow down the vehicle and drive home safely. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 150,000.

12 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2016

A brake line exploded as I was backing out of the driveway. Luckily, I was not going down the highway. There is significant corrosion on most of the brake lines. It seems very dangerous to make them out of a material that rusts completely through after 16 years. Why are they not using stainless steel?.

13 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

Rear brakes lock up under light braking or normal braking, rusting brake lines, rear emergency brakes banging and chattering. Back plates rusted off.

14 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

Extreme rust on under carrage of vehicle. Brake lines rusted out causing brake failure frame rusted out at rear leaf springs and frame rail cross members. Rear shock hangers rusted off vehicle. Frame rusted so bad that it prohibits toung of any type of trailer. Toyota had same problem and they had to do a recall so why has gm not had to do the same thing. It is a very large safety issue affecting many vehicles on the hwy today.

15 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2016

Rusted brake line burst resulting in complete brake failure. Even the dual system to have at least two functioning brakes also failed. Gm used substandard material for the lines. These should have not rusted in louisiana. The vehicle was moving slowly when the brakes failed. I was able to coast until I jammed into park. Same failure on the road would have resulted in a major accident.

16 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2016

Had to disconnect the anti lock brake so I could stop. When driving slow and pressing on the brake pedal, the pedal is solid and does not move. Very dangerous. Cannot stop the vehicle at all. Brake lines rotted out. Has to replace. Transmission lines rotted out. Had to replace. Transmission oil cooler rotted out. Had to replace. Fuel lines are rotting out. Not replaced yet. Drive shaft is questionable. Severely rusted. Rear backing plates rotted off, no more parking - emergency brake. Check engine light will not go out. Replaced catalytic converter many times with no results. Engine leaks oil. Loosing coolant, possible burning it. Fuel mileage is terrible. Body rusted out. Rocker panels are gone. Cab corners are gone. Rear bumper is gone. Putting the spare tire underneath is a stupid idea. The cost to replace these parts is too expensive. For what these vehicles cost new all of these parts should be made out of stainless steel or use plastic for the fuel lines and brake lines. The check engine light being related to a pollution control device should be entire covered by the manufacturer. These parts and whatever is upstream that caused the pollution control part to fail should be covered by the manufacturer in perpetuity. Anti lock brakes should be removed from all cars. The parts are too expensive to replace. The cost should not be on the shoulders of the car owner.

17 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2015

I was down mount plsace road going to work 5:00 am in the morning I brake for a dear an slow down then on brake paddle hit the floor an my pick up was hard to stop had to take it back home an I have brake fluid on ground a brake line burst .

18 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2015

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While the vehicle was approaching a stop at the top of a hill, the brake line ruptured and caused the vehicle to roll backwards down the hill. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 190,000.

19 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2014

While coming up to an intersection my brake pedal suddenly went nearly to the floor. Fortunately there was no one ahead of me , nor was there any cross traffic. . I soon found out that my front brake line had rusted completely through and had lost all brake fluid to the front brakes. All brake lines had to be replaced.

20 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2014

@00 miles after complete brake job new pads and rotors state inspection steel brake line from abs unit to rf caliber failed. Three days later steel line from abs to master and front brakes failed. This should be a mandatory recall people will be killed. Why are other manufactures having this problem? higher quality material maybe. The problem is so common gm has developed a kit with all new brake lines. Installation is on you prices range from 1000-4000 dollars to correct the problem. (note better quality brake lines are used in the kit. ).

21 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2014

Rear brake line blew out. Pedal went to the floor. Very hard to stop vehicle which almost resulted in a accident. Thought there should be some type of safety mechanism to prevent the failure of the entire brake system. No stopping power from front brakes and there was no damage to them. I was very fortunate to not be involved in a wreck.

22 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2014

The contact owns a 2000 Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the brake pedal went to the floor abruptly when engaged. The brakes were applied repeatedly however, the vehicle failed to slow down. The vehicle was maneuvered off the road in a back and forth motion onto a grassy surface until reaching a parking lot. The vehicle came to a stop after driving over a speed bump. The contact inspected the vehicle and placed a rubber hose over the holes in the faulty brake lines and secured with support clamps. The vehicle was driven to the residence at an extremely low speed. The contact replaced both front brake lines and main lines himself. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

23 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2014

Going to work the first time doing about 45 m. P. H. There was a car in front of me. I did not hit it went around the car good thing. There was not a car in the other lane. Next week im going on vac, I pull a boat that is 2000 pounds if the brake line would have blown out on the mountain it would have been bad. I'm just glad it blew out before I hooked up the boat. I have it in the shop right now ,the tech said all the brake lines are bad. He said this job is going to cost me 400 to 500 dollars. I hope you can help me out with this problem ! it is still a good running truck if I can get this brake problem taking care of , I cant afford to keep replacing brake lines. I could have been killed , maybe the third time will be my charm . Thanks.

24 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2014

I was moving a camper and lost all brakes, fortunately at low speeds. I got out to observe a blown brake line below the drivers door. It was all I could do to stop. I repaired this fix at $500. 00 only to have the same thing happen again 50 miles later. This time I was launching a boat with the entire family in the truck. I had to quickly put the truck in drive to avoid submerging all of us in the water. Obviously, these brake lines are a major safety hazard.

25 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

Was driving down the road and when I tried to stop I had no brakes. Turns out that the brake line rusted through somewhere behind the cab near the gas tank.

26 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2013

Brake lines rusted and ruptured causing vehicle to lose braking ability.

27 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2013

Brake line failure, without any warning. Resulted in loss of brakes!.

28 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2013

Driving home from a morning of shopping, I went to stop to make a turn into walgreen's parking lot when I noticed the truck was difficult to stop. . I proceeded to make a purchase at walgreen's, but when I was finished I decided to look under the hood. I could smell an oder that smelled like brake fluid, but wasn't sure because the container was still at an acceptable level. I proceeded to drive the truck home, approximately a half a mile, and noticed the brake pedal down to the floor. Uppn arriving at home, I checked under the hood again, and noticed brake fluid on the exhaust pipe on the driver's side. I could see a break in the brake line above the exhaust pipe and noticed vapors coming off the pipe. The truck has only 60,000 miles on, so I was very concerned about the quality of the materials used for insuring people's lives with these inferior lines. The truck was towed to a chevy dealership, and was told the cost could be in the neighborhood of 1800 dollars. Is this where our quality manufacturing has taken us? no wonder the japanese are winning.

29 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2013

Brake failure on interstate 65 sb when attempting a panic stop. A semi-truck trailer blew a tire which sent shrapnel/debris flying in the air. Traffic immediately behind the truck and directly in front of me panicked and "slammed" on their brakes to avoid the flying objects. In turn, I had to fully apply my brakes to the point of abs intervention. There was one to three cycles of the abs before I lost all brake pedal pressure. At this point I had to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid rear ending the car immediately in front of me. Subsequent inspection of the brake system shows that one of the three metal brake lines running along the drivers side frame rail, under the cab ruptured (hence loss of pedal pressure). This failure occurred where the brake lines transition from above the frame rail to along side the frame rail. All three brake lines in this area are corroded but it is difficult to visually tell the severity of the corrosion due to a spiral shielding that is wrapped around the entire length of brake line. Thankfully no one was injured as a result of this failure; however had the circumstances been slightly different, this failure could have resulted in a very bad accident.

30 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle reduced speed only slightly. The contact then applied the emergency brake but the shift lever became fractured and exhibited an abnormal noise when engaged. The contact shifted into reverse and was able to stop the vehicle, which was then towed to an independent mechanic for inspection. The mechanic advised the contact that both of the brake lines and cables were fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000. Kmj.

31 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2013

Upon leaving the zilpo campground in kentucky, towing a 15 foot bass boat with my wife in the passenger seat and my two grandchildren ages 5 and 6 years in the back seat, I approached the park ranger check station ay 30-35 mph. I applied the brakes and they went to the floor leaving no braking ability. I was forced to switch to the on-coming lane to avoid rear-ending my friend randy grills who was stopped at the check station. Luckily there were no cars in the on-coming lane. With the brake to the floor on a severe downhill grade I was able to finally come to a stop at a pull-off about a mile later. My truck had to be towed 50 miles to craig's auto repair in winchester, ky. They found many rusted brake lines that had to be replaced at a cost of around $1,000. Had the lane circumstances been different, this could have proved to be fatal.

32 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2013

I was headed to the store when my truck just shut off in the middle of the street I took to my mechanic and he said that the fuel pump and sending unit needed to be replaced as well as the fuel lines due to there being excessive corrosion. Also abs system activates when coming to a stop at low speeds. And I have also had to replace the brake lines due to excessive rust. At 118000 miles I had to have my heater core replaced due no heat and once again at 121000 miles I have lost heat again.

33 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2013

While driving down the road at the posted speed limit of 45mph, heading south, found road I needed to turn on, to head east, hit the brakes and brake pedal went almost to the floor and caused me to miss turn due to lack of braking. Towed vehicle home and found brake line rusted out and blown by abs module. Remaining brake lines in very rusty/ deteriorated shape, all needing replacement.

34 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2013

I was driving and pushed the brakes to slow down and the pedal went close to the floor and just barely slowed down enough to turn off the road. Luckily no other vehicle in my way because I couldn't stop quick enough. Turned out one of the brake lines rusted through and the rest are that rusted that they'll have to be replaced.

35 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2012

Lost brakes while pulling into parking spot at local grocery store. Had to stomp e-brake to keep from hitting car in front of me. Looked underneath to see brake fluid running down frame rail. Brake line ruptured due to rusting out. Got lucky this happened a mile from my brothers garage. . . He loaded me up on his car trailer and took to garage. Up on the lift we went. Rust rust rust. Need to replace brake lines front to back. . . Fuel lines look like crap too. Had this happened the next morning I would probably have to type this out from the hospital as the wife and I were due to leave the next morning on our anniversary trip. Come on gm recall!!!.
