My abs light comes on while driving. And when I turn my truck off. This happens about 3 or 4 times a day.
I was driving my truck and noticed the abs light come on and a humming sound from underneath the vehicle. I stopped the vehicle and turned it off including removing the key from the ignition, and a motor near the abs system kept running. I then pressed on the brake pedal again and one of the brake lines ruptured. I looked at all the lines and they are all severally rusted and about to blow too. After reading about this on the internet this is apparently a huge issue with a lot of gm vehicles made between 1999 and 2003. I ended up spending $800 to have all the brake lines replaced so the vehicle is safe again. I am amazed this has not been recalled or at least had an offer for a discounted repair. I am glad that I didn’t get into an accident to find this issue like a lot of stories I read. I guess it will just take a few deaths before it is recalled.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the hydraullic brake lines were rusted and corroded and the abs warning light illuminated intermittently. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
While pulling into my driveway, the brake pedal stated chattering like the anti-lock brakes were activating. The abs light came on intermittently and when the truck was being parked in front of the garage it would not stop and went through the garage door.
While driving my silverado down the freeway at 65mph the abs light just came on without warning or touching the brakes. Light stays on, and abs does not operate at all now, brakes feel soft and spongy and unsafe. I know there was a recall on these trucks, I called the dealership and they said yes there was but my VIN. Number wasn't effected in the recall. I believe it should be as I've read a lot of complaints on this issue with these trucks. I believe gm has a problem and it needs addressed.
