Emergency brake keeps engaging power steering problem, seat belt light stays on even when buckled. Headlights are dim.
While driving home from work, while braking for a stoplight, the brake pedal suddenly went soft. Using an abundance of caution, I drove slowly home, though pumping brakes was required even when driving 5 mph. When I made it home, it was obvious there had been a catastrophic brake line failure, as fluid trailed across my driveway and pooled under my truck. On closer inspection, it's amazing how corroded all visible brake lines were. This failure could have happened at speed and would likely have resulted in a crash. I am appalled these have not been recalled.
The abs brakes activate almost every time I apply the brakes. This happens for no reason.
Took vehicle in for service and inspection and was told frame was rusted and no longer safe to drive. Frame failure is unacceptable and an extreme safety hazard. Brakes lines had also rusted off previous and replaced. Vehicle only has 130,000 miles.
Tl-the contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet silverado 800. The contact stated that when he steps on the brake pedal the abs automatically engages when it should engage when in in climate conditions. The dealer and manufacturer have not been contacted yet. The failure mileage was 220,000. Tf.
I went to move my vehicle and was able to back up into the road. As I was coming back down my driveway my pedal went to the floor and I could not stop. Luckily I was only going a couple miles per hour and I was able to jam it in park before going through our house. I got out very nervous and saw brake fluid spraying everywhere.
I just had transmission work done on my truck when it burned the gears up. My brakes have always either went completely to the floor before they stopped or locked up. Right now its broke down due to too many problems for me to be able to fix but has only been not driveable since July 2017.
When I press on the brake petal, it will go down to the floor and if I let off of pressing the petal and press again, it will push my foot back up toward me and if I let off and press again it will finally come to a stop. It does the same thing anywhere I apply the brake petal and I'm in motion. When I'm idle and press the petal for the first usage of the day, the petal goes to the floor.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While making a left turn into a driveway at approximately 10-15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to stop the vehicle. The contact's vehicle crashed into another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer was contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 175,000.
Took pick-up for a drive, was 1/2 mile down road when brakes went down to almost nothing and brake fluid started spraying on the back window between cab and bed of truck. Barely made it back to my home and nervously pulled in with barely enough braking power to stop. Driving on 2-line black topped straight road.
Was leaving driveway. Put foot on brake pedal was hard released and reapplied to take out of park brake went to floor inspected under truck brake fluid all over driveway under truck.
Antilock problem.
My truck had to have a whole break line put in last yr and it cost me 200 bucks. Now the other side went out and I am on a fixed income and cant afford another 200 bucks,,,its a 2000 model and I have had several other trucks in the 90s with good lines,,whats up with this ???I think with all the problems people are having with these models g m should put a recall out on them!! for now I am house bound,,,thanks gm for a wonderfull truck!!!.
When braking at low speeds the abs kicks in and you lose the ability to stop. I usually put the gear selector in neutral or reverse to get the truck to stop.
While driving one day, I noticed the tow/haul button didn't work, then the gas gauge. Eventually, within a year, all the gauges stopped working. Sometimes they go on and later off again. I don't know if they are even accurate to any degree when they do come on. About a year ago the truck shut off while I was driving but after I was safely off the road it started again. That has not happened since. I have tried to find the problem but as of now I have been unsuccessful. Myself or my mechanic, who works for the county and is very capable. I know many people with the same or similar vehicles and this seems to be quite common. I also own a 2003 suburban and these things are starting with that truck too. These have been good trucks but I want to be safe and not have to get rid of my vehicles. Abs,wipers, defrost, hvac, and all gauges are affected. I have replaced hvac controls and dash gauges and other parts but still the same problems. Such as whatever hvac controls that I put in it still only works on high. Watch out if your speedometer acts strange.
When coming to stop sign, brake pedal went to floor.
A car pulled out from a side street and when braking pressure was applied the pedal went to the floor. After driving around the car and further brake pressure the truck slowed. I also had my fuel lines replaced last year. And yes. There is a lot of frame rust in the frame and other areas. When is chevy going to pony up. This happened to my friends takoma and they gave him $12000 for a 13 year old truck. Very disappointed with chevy.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact was driving 60 mph when the brake pedal became stuck to the floorboard. The contact pumped the brakes several times before it independently released. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure and the current mileage was 150,000.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet silverado k1500. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds with pressure applied to the brakes, it became difficult for the vehicle to slow down or reduce speed. The dealer advised the contact that there were no open recalls for the vehicle. The manufacturer had not been notified nor was the vehicle diagnosed or repaired. The current mileage was 130,000 and the approximate failure mileage was 128,000.
I own a 2000 chevy Silverado 1500. The vehicle has experienced three separate break failures due to severly corroded/rusted break lines. The first occured in 2008, the second in 2010, and the most recent was last week. We have had to replace several of the lines as a result. Luckily, the loss of breaks has happened in areas/situations where we were able to avoid a crash. There is absolutely no warning when this occurs, and contrary to what gm has said, no break warning light turns on to warn the driver of the loss of break line pressure/fluid. This problem appears to be widespread, and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Thank you. The latest failure occured at 102,000 miles, the others occured at approx 87,000 and 93,000 miles VIN # = 1gcek14v2ye326019.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph and upon engaging the brake pedal, the anti-lock brake system activated without warning. The failure recurred at low speeds. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact noticed that when traveling at lows speeds the anti-lock brake system would activate suddenly, making it difficult to idle the vehicle. The contact did not inform his local dealer; however, the manufacturer advised the contact that due to the age and mileage, there was nothing that they could do. No repairs were performed. The failure mileage was 115,000.
While going down my driveway I hit the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I backed it back into the garage and found the lines on the rear differential were rotted and leaking. I replaced them but just got my truck inspected and was told I would have to have the rest of the lines replaced soon as they are rusted very bad and could go at anytime. This truck has been garage kept since I bought it in 2003 with 17000 miles on it. It now has only 51000 miles on it.
My wife complained the brakes felt like they had air in the lines and stopping was difficult. When I went to bleed them I found that the front steel line was completely rotted and had a pinhole sized failure. I had a mechanic replace the lines and he was surprised at the level of corrosion all over the underside of this vehicle. The outer body is in perfect condition giving a false impression of being in good shape.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving under 10 mph, the abs unit activated before the vehicle was brought to a complete stop. The contact had to engage the brakes harder to stop the vehicle. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that he would have to pay for the repair expenses. The contact was informed by the manufacturer that recall 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: anti lock) had previously been performed. The current and failure mileages were approximately 75,000.
I have a 2000 chevy silverado that has had a recall on the abs system. The system gets corrosion and then at low speeds wont allow you to stop when planned. The abs activates on dry pavement. I have almost hit several vehicles cause of this. There has been a recall on this and the truck was fixed once, but now it is doing it again and Chevrolet wont take care of it a second time. They need to step up and take care of their issues.
Purchased 2000 silverado new in fall of 2000. On 8/30/10 driving south on merritt pky (CT) bringing daughter to college applied brakes, vehicle started to slow down and suddenly foot went to floor and absolutely no more brakes. Hit car in front which hit two other vehicles. Put on emergency brake and steered into guardrail to stop the moving truck. Unbelievably frightening experience, four vehicles involved including ours. Truck was totaled. We always loved the vehicle and felt secure when driving it now just the thought of being in any vehicle and not stopping is a very real fear. State police officer did not cite us said it was mechanical failure "blew a line". There very well could have been serious injuries/fatalities caused by this mechanical failure, we were all fortunate only property damage. Photos were taken and silverado was totaled. Insurance rates will go sky high now with surcharge. Can we sue gm? we have police report.
I applied the brakes to stop my truck when approaching a stop sign and my brake pedal went to the floor. I coasted into the intersection and stopped. Luckily there was no traffic. The vehicle was eventually towed to the dealer and the supply line to the rear brakes was replaced. It had failed due to rust.
At slow speeds of approximately 6 to 8 mph the vehicle will not stop or is very difficult to stop and at slow speeds the abs activates for no reason. There is a recall # 05068c that my VIN is included however vehicles located in nc are not included. My vehicle has been driven in different states including NY, PA and NJ. I feel this vehicle is unsafe and I am concerned about damage or injury to myself or others. Gm and the dealer sir walter Chevrolet in raleigh, nc refuse to fix this problem under recall.
I own a 2000 Chevrolet silverado 4x4 pick up. The abs goes off at slow speeds under 10mph you loose control of the braking ability of the vehicle. The vehicle would'nt stop. I almost drifted into traffic.
Pulling into driveway abs motor began running and no braking had to ram into park to keep from hitting garage.
Gm refuses to correct abs problem. My 2000 chevy silverado is experiencing a low speed abs brake activation which causes an extended braking distance. This vehicle was served by the dealer in 2005 for the recall (NHTSA action number pe05020). The problem has now started again and gm refuses to take any action since they say the recall was performed already and that the vehicle is out of warranty at 83000 miles.
Abs system actuates during low speed stops. This occurs to some extent on all stops, occasionally to the point it is not certain the truck will stop. Dealer states recall is closed.
My truck is experiencing the recall nr 05v379000 service brakes hydraulic, antilock symptoms but is not included in the states as posted on the recall notice. I have not rec'd a recall notice from gm as well. I have previously reported this problem to gm and told them I have had this particular problem ever since I bought the truck new in 2000. They said they would look in to it and this has been a few years back I almost wrecked yesterday too.
I own a 2000 chevy silverado with brakes that are soft. This condition has been since "day one" and I consider the vehicle dangerous to bring to a stop. I trailer a 3000lb boat, and even though the boat's trailer has brakes, it's almost impossible to make an emergency stop. The truck is maintained properly, and is considered in excellent condition by all who sees and or rides in it. I've had the brake system professionally serviced, including a system bleed, but this condition persists. Other than the soft brake feel problem, I like the vehicle.
