Steering Rack And Pinion problems of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

While driving and making turns made a really loud popping noise, took to a mechanic and the rack and pinion are coming apart. Done research and found bulletin 14204b and it is exactly what is going on with my truck but the VIN doesn't come back. I have kids and this is not anything to take lightly per the recall and the mechanic. If it is same as what recall is why isn't this truck included???? took to local chvrolet dealership and they even said same thing.

Power steering fails when going slow and trying to turn. The voltage indicator goes way down into minus, then goes back to normal. Dealer said it was rack and pinion. They replaced it and it failed again two days later. I believe the electric steering piwer assist system is at fault.

The contact had to pay for the repairs even though he had a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 17v414000 (steering). The dealer stated that the rack and pinion was not related to the recall and charged the contact for the repair. The failure mileage was 62,000.

The vehicle was taken to the sun Chevrolet dealer (724-655-4331, located at 2939 washington rd, mcmurray, PA 15317) where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to cover sixty percent of the repair cost. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. Fe.

Knock in steering when making left turns. Rack and pinion has a knock.

Bought a used 2014 Silverado 1500 4x4 with 22k miles and one previrus owner. I had no issues at first but the dealer made me aware of a recall gm had out where they would reprogram the power steering to prevent a possible issue of power steering loss at slow speeds. I took the truck in to the chevy dealer and had the "reprogram" done. After that I started having a popping in the steering column at extremely low speed or while stationary when the wheel was turned. A few months later the popping stopped and one evening I start my truck and the electric power steering is not working. The next day I start my truck and the power steering is working fine. I run an errand and as I'm coming home the power steering goes out while I'm turning at a slow speed also nearly causing a wreck with another car. Dealer won't admit to the problem being a part of the recall because of the lift on my truck and then over quoted me by $500 for the fix ($2900 total and $2200 for the part). Just had a new rack and pinion installed for $2535. 11 and the part alone was $1859 from another dealer. The mechanic told me the part has since (the recall) been "remanufactured" which leads me to believe that gm realized there was a problem and they fixed it quietly on the assembly line rather than make it right with their customers.

Started experiencing a popping sound and popping /clicking feeling in the steering wheel when driving at slow speeds ,when turning the steering wheel in either direction. This would usually occur in tight spaces such as parking lots ,gas stations etc. And after the truck was driven for awhile ,20 plus miles after a few weeks started noticing that front tires were wearing rapidly and click/popping sound had progressed and so we scheduled appointment with dealership, and met with service tech ,after a brief diagnosis I was informed that it was a faulty rack and pinion and would need to be replaced, this is a major disappointment on a fairly new truck with less then 68000 miles.

Steering rack and pinion internal failure at 38000, as confirmed by dealership. Was informed that it could cause the steering to lock up and ultimately crash the vehicle.

The truck at low speeds you can here the steering make popping sounds when turning and occasionally it would be extremely loud like something snapped off. Took it to dealership and they said that the power steering had a bad bushing and had to replace the rack and pinion and steering gear box. This was at 19000 miles. Now the truck is doing the same thing again.
