The steering binds up especially at low speeds, and at times an audible clunk can be heard when turning left. It has been determined that the steering rack & pinion unit failed where the passenger side inner tie rod connects to the gear.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving at a low speed and making a turn, a popping noise emitted from the steering column. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the tie rod needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer issued a recall for certain other model vehicles per NHTSA campaign number: 14v246000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
