3 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

The problem was not with the air bag, but the front switch that activates the air bags upon impact. When one or both fail the test when you turn the ignition on, it posts a message saying service the air bag system. There is lots of information regarding this on utube. Apparently this is a common problem. I am an electrician and an electronics tech, I know that the air bags will not activate if the crash is on the side with a bad air bag. I had 2 brake light switches go out, at which time the person behind me,would have no idea, I was braking. The switch is a 2 part switch, one part controls the brake light, the other enables or disengages the cruise control system.

7 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/21/2014

Air bag warning light that airbag needs to be serviced. Had the problem traced at a dealer and found that it is the airbag sensing unit on the passenger front behind the bumper which is defective / rusted and not working. Was also told by not having this fixed my air bags would not work since the system is somehow tied together with the other sensors. Cost to have fixed is $250 for a switch install / sensor install ! I am bringing this to your attention because I am aware of other vehicles, same year with this same issue !.

8 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/10/2013

The evening of March 10 2013 around 1700 hour my brother a single man, was fatally killed in his 2007 Chevrolet silverado k1500 pick-up truck, approximately 1 mile from his home on a paved country road. He was pr0nounce dead @ 1730 hour. The cause of the accident has not been determine, yet the report will show that he was traveling on a down hill slope where he swerved off the pavement to the right and then over corrected back on to and crossed the pavement on the left and then back across the hi way on the right impacting a bridge embankment over turning over hitting a tree, resting right side up. His air bag never deployed. We was told there was not any thing wrong with the airbags mechanism, further that the crash was not head on. This vehicle is totally destroyed. I have it storage for any one inspection. My brother was not ejected from the vehicle, I do believe, should the bags had deployed, my brother would be alive to day. Also, further his steering from one side to the other indicate he had no power steering and finally, the skid marks on the gravel edge and not on the pavement, give an indication, there were no power assisted breaking all add up to the fact the vehicle lost its electric power by the key switch accidently shutting the engine off.

10 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/13/2011

Red check airbag light is on constantly. All repair shops indicate that there have been many more, and the expense for repair would run from $450. 00 to $1,000. 00. It seems that gm already knows about this malfunction, since there are many other reports. Sinced the light is on, the airbag will not work in the event of a crash. It would seem that gm would repair these immediately unless they want another ignition switch catastrophe. It shouldn't take someone dying as a result of this malfunction to get gm to act. As of now, my airbag will not inflate in the event of a crash.
