Front Air Bag Problems of Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Chevrolet defective left front seat air bag position senor. Dealer indicates a needed recall. Air bags will not operate due to this defect. One of many he has replaced.

I was shutting the center console in my 2008 chevy silverado and the passenger air bag deployed and I turned the key on the truck to start it and the drivers air bag deplored I have not been in accident or hit anything. I want to make a full report of this.

Feb. 21, 2008, my wife and myself were involved in a accident during an ice storm. Our truck fish tailed and plowed through a hsy guard rail at an angle of approx 60 degrees. The air bags did not work. It then bounced off a second guard rail in the outside of the opposite lane and spun the truck around and headed for the middle guard rail and parked. The air bags did not work a second time. So, the injury to our necks and upper torso was more severe because of the air bags not working. The seat belts strain injured us. We had leased a 2007 silverdo lt extended cab with warranty and guarantees. I went online and checked the safety rating. Shocked, this is why I am making this complaint.

I have a question about vehicles that had there seats recovered by the dealership and not gm. I have a 2004 Chevrolet silverado that had the original cloth seats recovered in aftermarket leather by the dealership (this vehicle has the automatic air bag passenger sensing system) and I was wondering if my vehicle is impacted in the same way as those vehicles being recalled. The reason I'm asking this question is that in the remedy section of the NHTSA campaign document 0641700 it states "a replacement leather seat cover that is compatible with the passenger sensing system is not available" which makes me believe that the seat covers installed by the dealership is unsafe. If my vehicles is impacted, then what do I need to do? if my vehicle is not impacted, then how and why is my seat covers compatible with the sensing system? (I'm not trying to be difficult, but I'm concern the vehicle my be unsafe for my passenger) .

Gm has recalled 2004 silverado with leather seats because it causes air bag to deploy when not in an accident or not to deploy when in an accident. The only remedy is to buy back the vehicle at full cost per recall id# 7297, but gm has refused to buy back my vehicle even though they are the ones that submitted the recall. The dealer informed the consumer everything was working as designed. Updated 05/26/11 the consumer stated on leased vehicles were recalled. Updated 06/01/11.

: the contact stated while driving 35 mph, the vehicle was involved in a collision with a roadside barrier. Neither air bag deployed upon impact. The contact was taken to a hospital with neck injuries, fractures of the ribs and foot, and facial lacerations. A police report was taken, and the vehicle was considered a total loss.
