The front trunk latch mechanism repeatedly fails. When this occurs, the vehicle believes the trunk is open and will not let you drive in normal mode. It forces you to proceed in limp mode which is dangerous. The 12v battery has to be reset to have the sensor redetect the close latch. Reports from multiple forum sources show this to be a widespread problem and currently dealer are replacing with the same mechanism and the problems reoccur.

Safety concern and costly repair – 2022 chevy silverado rear window leak. I am writing to raise a serious concern regarding a known defect in the 2022 chevy silverado involving the sliding rear window. The window is prone to leaking, and in my case, every time it rained or I went through a car wash, the headliner above the rear seats became saturated. Upon consulting with the dealership, I was informed that this is a documented issue and that a technical service bulletin (TSB) has been issued. They advised immediate repair due to the risk of water intrusion damaging the electrical wiring associated with the airbag system. This poses a significant safety hazard, as compromised wiring could result in airbag malfunction or failure to deploy during an accident. Despite this being a known manufacturing or design flaw, I was charged over $800 for the necessary repair. Given the potential impact on critical safety features, this issue warrants urgent attention and accountability. It is deeply concerning that such a defect could jeopardize passenger safety and yet result in a substantial out-of-pocket expense for the owner. I strongly urge a review of this matter and consideration for reimbursement or broader corrective action to ensure customer safety and trust.

While driving my 2022 Chevrolet silverado, the vehicle suddenly veered to the right without any driver input, ultimately crashing into a concrete guardrail. At the time of the incident, I was merging into the left lane with my turn signal activated and traveling below the posted speed limit. According to the statement provided to my insurance company—and based on my direct experience—the truck appeared to take control of itself, and I could not prevent it from veering off the road. The impact caused significant front-end damage and triggered the deployment of the airbags. It is important to note that the lane keep assist feature was turned off at the time of the crash—we do not use or rely on this feature. Therefore, the event cannot be attributed to any automated steering correction system. The airbag deployment resulted in serious injuries to the front-seat passenger, who sustained severe burns and blistering to the right arm and hand. The injuries were substantial and are documented in photographs, which can be provided upon request. A VIN search confirmed that this vehicle has no active recalls. However, the circumstances of this crash suggest a potential malfunction in the electronic steering assist, throttle control, or transmission system. After the crash, the vehicle was towed to my insurance company’s preferred collision repair shop. However, I have not authorized any repairs or inspections. I specifically instructed the shop to delay all work until after I file this safety complaint and have the opportunity to request a third-party inspection. The vehicle remains in its post-crash condition, and to the best of my knowledge, the event data recorder (edr) has not been altered and should still contain valuable diagnostic data. I respectfully request that this incident be investigated as a potential vehicle safety defect. I am providing photographic evidence of the crash damage and resulting injuries.

Tailgate operation failure. The tailgate switch appears to be operating when no button is pressed. When vehicle is unlocked or key fob near vehicle tailgate automatically goes down on own. Component is available upon request. Appears to be tailgate release switch 85734717. Safety at risk as although it does not open in driving it does when stopped and in park. Tailgate went down and driver failed to realize this as component had failed and it had been put up and driver drove forward so unable to witness it down as truck was not in reverse. Upon driving forward materials in bed of truck were dispersed in roadway until driver realized tailgate had come down just prior to pulling away. Causes a safety hazard to drivers and others on road. Problem has happened in park and has not been taken into dealer yet as it is out of dealer warranty. Vehicle not inspected by anyone else. No lamps displayed prior to or following failure. No lift gate down warning. Safety failure.

The rear window leaks when it rains on the truck. I brought it back to the gm chevy dealer and they applied a sealant. It immediately leaked right after. The truck now smells musty and im assuming there is mold growth. It has been at the dealership for the past two weeks while they try to figure it out.

I have been shopping for a truck for a little over a year now specifically a 2012 chevy silverado. To date everyone I found has frame and body rust but the frame rust is so bad that most aren’t safe to drive.

Over the course of ownership the chassis of this vehicle has gotten horrendously corroded, which has caused structural components of the frame to begin to develop rust holes needing repair. These holes in the chassis are caused by the incorrect application of the factory chassis wax coating and has caused the entire frame to become deeply rusted through in many areas. Additionally I have been through two transmissions, the first occurring at around 55,000 miles of use, and the second around 105,000 miles. Seems there is a point of failure after around 50,000 miles on these transmissions.

My tailgate started opening randomly for 2 consecutive days now. This happens while the vehicle is in park with the keys out of the ignition and also while driving down the road exposing items in the bed to possibly fall out and cause potential injury or death from accidents.

While driving on March 23, 2025, we heard a loud bang, we stopped at a gas station shortly thereafter and realized the tailgate had fallen open while driving and struck the trailer hitch. The latch/camera compartment were broken and hanging from where it struck the crank for trailer hitch and the tailgate was damaged (dented). It was taken to the dealership where they advised there is a recall on some models due to this same issue. They checked and advised our truck is not part of recall. We filed a pac claim with Chevrolet which they are declining to pay. The latch/camera is currently taped into place. It has fallen open while driving one additional time since the first event. We frequently carry things in the bed of truck and our safety and that of anyone behind us could be in jeopardy.

When it rains. Tailgate opens on it own. Either have to lock truck or quickly put into drive to prevent tailgate from opening on its own. Only in wet weather. Tailgate opened on its own in rainy weather when parked at hardware store. I began to drive away not knowing tailgate opened and lost tool box and material out the back while making a turn. Speaking with gm I was explained it’s a known issue on 2500 models but not for 1500 models.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the headliner above the rear window had water stains. The contact stated that as a mechanic, he had inspected the vehicle and diagnosed that the water was leaking from the third brake light. The contact stated that the gasket surrounding the third brake light was no longer properly sealing the third brake light. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in an unknown recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

Lifter failure in the motor also, leaking in back window.

My 2020 Chevrolet silverado rear window leaks causing mold on headliner and carpeting and if running electric defrost during rain it makes a sizzling noise afraid of electrical issues as well if not correct and the mold makes the interior environment unsafe for breathing.

2013 silverado has sustained extensive corrosion damage to frame making vehicle unusable. Obviously, extremely widespread problem that gm has acknowledged was caused by improperly treated frames in a technical service bulletin but no recall has been forced upon them like was done to Toyota years ago for the exact same malfeasance. The truck was always cared for. Severe safety hazard being caused by gm’s poor choices.

My tailgate opens and closes on it's own. There is already a recall but not on my VIN for some reason.

A well-documented and increasingly widespread problem related to excessive rust on the frames of many vehicles in this particular model year range. The cause of the problem appears to stem from a poorly applied or degrading wax coating, which, over time, peels off, leaving the frame exposed to corrosion, particularly in harsh weather conditions such as heavy snow and road salt exposure. The result is catastrophic—my silverado’s frame and crossmembers are now severely compromised, and the integrity of the vehicle is in question.

The tailgate opens while I am driving. I saw this is an issue with other models but it has happened numerous times on my model as well. The computer system also malfunctions sporadically and the car doesn’t turn off.

I washed my truck and now suddenly the tailgate opens and closes whenever it decides and I have paint that is bubbling and it looks as if it’s gonna all chip right off the hood.

Frame rotted through.

There is a water leak from the rear roof leaking causing water to come inside by the rear window down the rear pillar by the airbag. May cause problems with the rear side airbag and mold. Dealer charged me a $273 diagnostics charge and will not repair under warranty or extended warranty even though there is a TSB on this affecting numerous other trucks.

The automatic power running board of my vehicle has been coming loose. I took the vehicle to my dealership to get serviced. They said they tightened the bolts, and that the board is still loose. They also say there is nothing else they can do to fix the issue. This seems like a significant risk, as this component of the body of my car is at risk of coming apart further due to rattling while driving. I would like your help figuring out a safe solution.

Rear sliding plastic window frame cracks and allows water to seep into the cab. Hardware and metal brackets have rusted, electrical components may be at risk of shorting out. Mold and mildew can be smelled on warm days, which poses a health risk. Complete window has been replaced twice and original and replacements have all been resealed as a "repair" but has failed on all attempts. Headliner has been replaced once and is currently stained again due to another leak. No updated gm part exists to remedy the known issues.

They sold me a vehicle at the dealer. Three days after I bought it, I had to buy tires for it. Because they were in bad condition, they also charged me for a liquid called 3m nitro and I don't understand why they put it in if the tires were in bad condition, and they also promised to fix some details on the bumper and details on the paint on the body of the truck, and the transmission has already started to fail, and they don't want to help me or take responsibility. The truck still has a dealer warranty.

Unwanted inadvertent tail gate opening. The tailgate is opening without human interaction causing a safety issue and potential loss of cargo. Damage to tailgate from striking objects due to inadvertent opening.

2008 chev. Silverado severe u underside rusting , including factory tow attachments. Uncle has 28599 miles , bought new and not driven in inclement weather. Wax coating on frame almost completely worn off. Was told it will not pass nys inspection next year.

We bought this vehicle used at goodwin Chevrolet in oxford maine in November 2019. It has 80,000 on it. We were told by our mechanics yesterday that it won't take another sticker because of the frame being rusted. Gm knew they were having problems with these frames on these vehicles. I don't have an extended warranty. So now we have a vehicle that is no good to us. Completely unacceptable. I have a November 14th appointment with goodwin to look at this truck. No idea what to do next.
