Dashboard Crack Problems of Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - part 1

When I was driving on the 405 freeway my dash board started to crack and has been cracking pieces of the dash have fallen down by my feet brake pedal area . The dash is slowly getting worse and scares me.

Cracked dashboard in several places. Possible obstruction of passenger side air bag in the event of deployment. Pieces of dashboard might become sharp pieces flying around the cab in case of a collision.

My passenger air bag was replaced under recall n202324210 by priority Chevrolet of chesapeake va. I was required by the dealership to sign acknowledging that the gm or the dealership would not take responsibility for dashboard cracking as part of the repair. My truck is low mileage and in great condition so I expected no problems. However, the dealership technician did crack my dashboard and predictably the dealership refused to take any action. I think it is unacceptable that the manufacturer and their authorized service departments should be allowed to damage customer vehicles during recall repairs. Also, while my cracks are fairly small, I have no idea what invisible damage might have occurred. How can I be confident that the recall repair did not create missile hazards? it is common to view the dashboard as merely decorative but I am now forced to consider what new hazards are presented by the dashboard, both from unsecured material in a crash and missile hazards in the area of the airbag, that were directly caused by a government ordered recall. I believe that NHTSA should order repair of all mounting equipment and dashboard components as part of this and future air bag recalls. Thank you.

All 4 doors are rusting on the bottom edge (round seam). Cracks on dash on passenger and driver side starting from air bag and cracking outward. Oil pressure runs low and uses 1 quart of oil every 1500 - 2000 miles.

Cracked dash while driving on hwy 85 rust is forming all under the truck as well as around the doors and bed.

The dash is cracking at the passenger side airbag and could possibly present a hazard if an accident would occur. The vehicle has not been in an accident and has always been garaged. The truck is mostly used for highway driving. The vehicle is also not driven daily and has 84,000 miles on it and is 9 years old. The problem was first noticed in September 2020.

2007 new body style Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Two large cracks in dashboard that occurred naturally. I always use windshield sun deflectors very often.

The dash is cracking at the passenger side air bag, the vehicle has not been in an accident and is always protected. The vehicle is not driven daily & only has 67k miles on it the problem was first noticed on 5/9/2020. Gm does not want to do anything about it.

Dash is cracking - portion close to the windshield- just like someone breaking a piece peanut brittle off - getting worse.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that she noticed that her dashboard was cracked upon entering her vehicle. The contact stated that the crack started from the left corner of the passenger air bag and extended to the edge of the right defroster vent; the contact estimates that the crack reaches about one and a half inches. The contact spoke with a dealer(coast auto center inc 530 chetco Ave, brookings, or 97415 541-469-5321) where she had been informed that they were familiar with this defect and informed her that there had been a class action lawsuit filed against GMC regarding several other GMC vehicles and the potential that these cracks can cause potential safety hazards. The dealer had offered her no further assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the failure where she filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 40,696. Jo.

Dashboard presents multiple cracks by airbag in passenger side and by the iddle area. Lines are similar to many reported in 2018 lawsuit. Concen about safery in case airbag breaks fragile dashboard and this injures my family.

The dash has cracked from the passenger side airbag to the instrument cluster directly in front of the driver. An accident could send debris into the drivers face or puncture the airbag upon deployment.

I have found cracks in the dash directly connected to the support braces for the passenger side air bag, in case of deployment the shards of broken plastic can impale into an individual causing injury or death.

Dash has cracked near passenger airbag, heard a loud pop while driving down interstate then noticed the crack, poor quality plastic or other issue is occurring to thousands of vehicles, how long before someone gets seriously injured before it gets investigated.

Multiple areas on dashboard panels are cracking and breaking.

Takata recall- my vehicles status is still incomplete! no repairs have been attempted and it has almost been two years since this recall was issued! I demand answers! also the dash is cracked on my truck in the very same place it's cracking on thousands of other trucks. This needs to be recalled as the plastic can injure someone!.

My dashboard has a few cracks in it and they appeared over time due to the quality of the product. The safety concern is it is cracking around the passenger air bag which could affect the efficiency of the airbag. The product wear was mostly affected while the vehicle was stationary.

Dash pad has cracks in it. If air bags were to be deployed pieces of dash could become projectiles. Don't know when it cracked. I noticed it when I was walking around to the passenger side. My truck sits in a garage. It only has 60000 miles on it and I bought it new in 2011.

The dash board cracked right above the airbag on th passenger side in the driveway park outside the house.

Multiple cracks in the dashboard in and around the passenger airbag and drivers side. Pieces become a hazard in the event of a collision as they could become projectiles. Dash cracks lead to loss of structural integrity of the dash system which may also impede the ability of the airbag to function. This problem has been well documented and reported by multitudes of consumers throughout the nation. Gm/Chevrolet refuse to acknowledge that there is a manufacturing problem and refused to provide any support when contacted via phone. The loss of structural integrity also poses a hazard as the pieces vibrate and cause a distraction for the driver. My dash board was replaced at approx. 80000 miles due to the same issue in nearly the same location. This problem should warrant a recall and/or a streamlined avenue to repair the known defect. There also should be some requirement for engineering to review the design and remedy the situation fully.

Dashboard crack. Starting at the top passanger air bag. Recently grew to cover length of entire dash.

The dashboard is cracking. It has already cracked in three places. One place just above the passenger air bag.

Dash board cracked while stationary.

The dash is cracked in 3 places, once over the instrument cluster and twice near the passenger side airbag. The surrounding plastic is very brittle. The initial cracks happened while the vehicle was moving. This is a very common problem with similar gm dashes. This is a safety hazard. Should the passenger side airbag deploy, the dash would essentially become shrapnel.
