When driving in traffic about 10 mph engine shuts down and power steering goes out. . When I slow to turn, the engine shuts down sometimes and the power steering goes out. No warnings. I’m afraid to drive it. I almost hit a lady while turning in a parking lot because the steering went out and it died. Sometime it’s hard to turn the key to start the truck. This has happened 9 or 10 times now.

My truck locks up the back tires at 7 mph. No warning lights come on and the only indication it is going to happen is when shifting from park to reverse it bangs extremely hard.

I am sending this email to report that my 2023 Chevrolet silverado had its rear brakes lock up momentarily on consecutive days (1/13/26 & 1/14/26) driving 70-72 mph. each occurrence came on without warning and only lasted a brief moment, but locked up hard enough for my rear wheels to screech and slam me forward in the truck, thankfully there were no other vehicles near me. I took the truck to the dealership first thing in the morning on 1/15/26 to be informed later that day that the truck didn't show any codes. the service department at my dealership contacted the tac dept. At gm and they determined that the problem was caused by the brake light wiring from my truck topper (that was after they asked if the customer had added any accessories to the truck). I have had the topper for 3 years without any issues. I reached out to the company that installed the topper and the owner said that gm is giving me the run around and trying to point the blame elsewhere. He himself has installed 100's of toppers and they follow the wiring instructions from leer toppers. He did a 30 second google search and said [xxx] , the problem you have experienced is well documented online, gm knows what the problem is with your truck". my truck was at the dealership for 5 days before they released it to me, even after I told them that there are known and documented cases of their trucks experiencing momentary rear wheel lockups. I have called gm customer service twice and left messages regarding my truck and tac # and haven't received a return call. I am fearful that when this happens again and if it does so in the wrong place at the wrong time the end of this story may be tragic. if I was pulling a trailer, driving on ice or in rush hour traffic I can't imagine the outcome. gm knows they have a serious problem and they is comfortable in releasing a dangerous truck back onto the roads. Vehicle has experienced repeated internal engine failures related to the exhaust valve lash adjusters and valvetrain. The engine developed abnormal valvetrain noise, misfires under load, and loss of power. The check engine light would only flash during hard acceleration or when passing another vehicle (wide-open throttle), then turn off after approximately 10–15 seconds and never remain illuminated. Because the warning light would not stay on, the vehicle continued to be operated without clear indication of an active or worsening engine failure. Dealer inspection confirmed exhaust valve lash adjuster failure, which led to camshaft and valvetrain damage. This failure has occurred more than once, including after prior dealer repairs. This is a serious safety concern because the vehicle was driven at highway speeds and during passing maneuvers while experiencing internal engine damage and misfires, without persistent warning to the driver. Sudden power loss, stalling, or catastrophic engine failure during acceleration or passing presents a risk of crash or injury. This appears to be a systemic engine defect rather than normal wear, as the failure recurred and was not reliably detected by the vehicle’s monitoring system.

I am reporting a catastrophic internal engine failure in a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 at 87,600 miles. Prior to this event, there were no warning lights or symptoms. While traveling alone during the holiday on a remote, one-lane road with no shoulder, the vehicle suddenly suffered a loss of power. Every warning light on the dashboard illuminated at once, followed by shaking, misfiring, and loud knocking from the engine. Because I was on a one-lane road with no place to pull over, this created an immediate safety hazard for me and oncoming traffic. I had the car towed to the dealership ( where I bought the truck) confirmed the failure was a collapsed lifter and scored camshaft (which I found out to be a known design flaw in the 5. 3l dfm engine). The dealer said it was not under warranty. I felt held over a barrel by the dealership; they initially provided an inflated quote and told me it would cost approximately $1,200, not including tax and shop fees, just to put the engine back together if I wanted to tow it elsewhere for a second opinion. I was forced to pay over $8,395 under protest just to regain use of my primary vehicle after 42 days of downtime. Upon completion, the dealer provided a "lifetime warranty" on the replacement parts. This is a tacit admission that these components were never intended to fail during the life of the vehicle. Gm refuses to include this vehicle in its coverage list, treating a dangerous engine stall as a simple "out of warranty" repair. This is a systemic safety defect that requires a mandatory recall expansion before it results in a terrible accident. My understanding is that a class action lawsuit, harrison vs. General motors, for this same thing, but they say my car is not in it, I should have been put on notice for this so I could protect myself.
Tailgate opens automatically on its own while parked and while driving. This also causes the battery to drain down to being dead as it continues to operate the actuator I had to unplug the electronic tailgate switch to stop the battery from graining. Besides the battery draining, the tailgate opened when I had a load in the bed of the pick up truck as I drove causing a possible unsafe load and spillage onto the road way. Dealership notified. Appt scheduled for jan7 2026. No warning lamps came on.
I bought a truck from paul gerber auto sales, inc(used car dealer) in omaha nebraska. The transmission is bad because of the torque converter and a known issue where the transmission fluid gets too hot causing the torque converter to become damaged. There are also multiple known safety recalls with this vehicle and the issue with the transmission has been confirmed by a independent mechanic. The dealer had me driving it down roads that didn't take the vehicle through all of its gears so the problem wasn't noticed until after I had gotten on to the freeway. Went on the freeway I noticed that it was shifting up hard and downshifting hard as well as a rumble strip effects in the vehicle struggled to get up to speed or was sluggish. When I was clear and tried to pull out into a lane from an intersection the vehicle struggled to get up to speed and I was nearly rear-ended. That's when I took it to have an obd reading which caused the check engine light to turn on and notice that codes were pending which means that the dealership cleared the codes before the test drive. Please have not been made aware yet but I will be filing a report.
At 150 miles on the odemeter the tpm light came on I pulled off the highway, got out and checked all 4 tires. Not noticing any issues I got back on the highway and turned on the stereo. The speakers sounded like they were blown apart. Static and the sound of muffled vibrations. I drove to my intended destination and turned off the truck. After finishing my business at this location I started the truck and the tpm light was not iluminated. This is a hige safty issue. As a firefighter paramedic I have personally seen dead and mulated people that stoped on the highway and got out to check there vehicle and were struck by another vehicle. This issue is going to cause people to immeadiatly stop and get out of there vehicle thinking there is a flat tire. There is obviously a computer glitch in the 2026 cheverolet Silverado 1500 series.
While driving the vehicle the tailgate came open by itself. I had left my house and when I arrived at my friend’s house to pick him up the tailgate was down. I closed the tailgate and while driving a driver honked their horn to alert me that something was wrong. When I pulled off the road the tailgate had come open for a second time.
During an extreme cold event in interior alaska (–44°f), the vehicle experienced a sudden emissions?system failure that triggered an epa?mandated limp mode, limiting the vehicle to 5 mph on high?speed highways. This created an immediate life?safety hazard because it was impossible to maintain a safe speed or exit the roadway due to snow berms. Prior to the failure, the vehicle displayed “service emission system” warnings and multiple dtcs related to the reductant heaters and sensors. A dealership technician later confirmed a “burnt pin” at the reductant pump connector, consistent with thermal?electrical overload. This failure mode matches gm’s TSB 21?na?006, describing connector overheating in cold climates. After the repair, the vehicle continued to exhibit safety?critical symptoms, including harsh downshifts, delayed engagement, and jerking during deceleration, consistent with recall 26v083000 (rear?wheel lock?up risk). The vehicle also continues to emit an electrical burning odor in cold temperatures, consistent with recall n192206310 (block?heater fire risk). The only gm dealership in the region issued a “termination of business relationship,” preventing access to all recall and warranty repairs. This has created a 321?mile “service desert,” making it impossible to obtain federally mandated recall remedies. The vehicle remains unsafe to operate due to unresolved transmission, electrical, and propulsion issues.

The vehicle 'turned off' while in motion at around 35-40 mph on a busy 5-lane major arterial road in the city on 12/21/2025 at around 0630-0700 hours. Driver (author of this report) was able to turn into a side road and stop. Message "press start button" displayed on dash panel. Complying with this action led to a coughing start but vehicle could not be put into drive mode because a second message appeared saying "conditions not safe for transfer". Eventually over next minute or two vehicle coughed up to a start again and was able to put into drive mode and drive to parking garage to safety. Driver was able to drive back about 3 hours later with no recurrence or new malfunction. No warning lights throughout the episode. My Chevrolet mobile app also did not display error messages. Vehicle was driven (without incident) and delivered to a Chevrolet dealer on 12/24/2025 for diagnostics and workup and is currently situated there.
My vehicle is listed as not being affected by any current recalls. When I purchased my vehicle in December 2025, it did not have an owner's manual in the glovebox, which I found concerning. Why do I not qualify to receive something as important as the owner's manual under that current recall regarding that safety issue?.
The oil cooler line was un-lodged from the metal crimp that secures it while I was pulling away causing total loss of all engine oil in a matter of seconds. Not only does the car immediately tell you to turn your car off to avoid catastrophic engine failure, but this is also dangerous for other drivers as the oil may cause a hazard for controlling the vehicle going through the oil.
The drivers side window regulator cable completely rusted through and broke. There should be a recall as there is a ton of videos on youtube on how to fix this. Every single one of us the bottom cable completely rusted through and broke on the regulator. First picture is old rusted broke one, 2nd is the new gm part, you can see it was sitting in water, my truck is less than 3 years old. Oh it’s always the driver side.
Yesterday I was driving and the pickup truck put itself into neutral and died in the middle of the road and almost got rear ended with my kids in the car. The car would not start again and no codes were given.
Formal complaint — outdated android/google built-in security patch level on 2024 chevy silverado; potential cybersecurity defect and negligent maintenance by manufacturer. I am submitting a formal complaint regarding a critical cybersecurity and software maintenance defect in my 2024 chevy silverado. The vehicle runs google built-in / android automotive os with an android security patch level of February 2024 (as displayed under settings ? about ? android version). As of this writing in December 2025, this patch level is nearly two years outdated, with no available over-the-air (ota) updates and no clear communication from general motors or google regarding continued support or end-of-life status. This condition exposes the infotainment and telematics systems to known and documented vulnerabilities, representing both a cybersecurity defect and potential consumer safety. Description of the defect: the infotainment system reports “android security patch level: February 2024. ” attempts to check for updates return “your system is up to date. ” the system shows a red exclamation mark beside the patch level, indicating a fault condition or known update gap. Neither the dealer nor onstar/customer support can apply an update manually or clarify the support cadence. This leaves the vehicle permanently exposed to android-level vulnerabilities discovered and patched long after February 2024. Security and regulatory implications: the infotainment system runs a network-connected os with bluetooth, WI-fi, cellular, and vehicle bus access. Unpatched android components are subject to hundreds of known cves since February 2024 — including privilege-escalation, rce (remote code execution), and bluetooth/WI-fi stack vulnerabilities. The u. S. Nhtsa cybersecurity best practices for the safety of modern vehicles (2022 update) and iso/sae 21434 require that manufacturers maintain timely security updates for all connected vehicle systems.

12/10/25 took wife’s vehicle to church, came home, at 11:22pm a loud noise from outside brought us out of bed, ran to door, wife asked if I smelled something, went outside and seen the glow from in front of garage, I ran to the garage and saw truck burning from engine bay, hooked up water hose, didn’t faze it, took fire department 20 minutes to show, truck has not been driven since 12/6/25, I live 2. 5 miles back in the hills, police asked for surveillance video and showed the truck just started burning under the hood, now I’m getting the run around by as insurance company.
I have had so much issues as has thousands upon thousands of other people related to the arm on my truck nothing but issues regarding it.

The back sliding window on the drivers side exploded, sounded like a shot gun going off , I had started my truck with the key grabbed some thing to take with me pulled out of my driveway and it exploded , call the manufacturer went through a number of calls. They had a dealership do an inspection and gm said not there issue , just had it replaced and it is immediately showed signs of overheating with discoloration and defroster lines breaking in the glass immediately after the vehicle got repaired. Certainly there is an issue that needed correction but can’t get the correct help.

My check engine light came on and the diagnostic code was p1098. I noticed there was a special warranty for my make and model and engine but for some reason mine does not have this special warranty. I have researched and found out this is a common problem with these trucks. I think there should be a recall for this as it poses safety problems and concerns when it enters limp mode.
I purchased my new 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 truck on 12/04/2025 from cma Chevrolet in [xxx] . When the truck was delivered, there was no owner's manual with the truck. I recently found that there was a recall associated with this issue. It is xxx. I thought that maybe manuals were now online. When I read the recall, it said that it is federal law that one be issued with each new vehicle. My VIN is not part of the recall. I contacted my salesman and he said that their parts department said that sometimes the manufacturer, gm, puts out vins in blocks. This does not make sense. How does a manufacturer know something that they did not do?? I would like my VIN added to the list of vehicles that are affected by this recall. I have not had any incidents thank goodness. But I did take it to the shop and they told me as the vacuum pump. It wouldn’t stop my vehicle and I was always nervous about hitting someone or causing an accident. Before then, I had change the breaking pad, taking it to the shop to check on their transmission and none of that was the problem. Please make a recall on this. People could cause or be involving in an accident. It mostly happened when I’m driving in slow between 2-5 miles per hour. It always scare me when backing out of my driveway because the brakes wouldn’t work. I do not have any pictures. I would rather take this to get fixed before causing an accident.
Unknown, esc , traction control, service brake. The truck stop and those 2 codes shows and is on but doesn’t it move.
The telematics module on my car stopped working. It caused all of my warning tones to go out and are not audible. Furthermore the onstar system is not working. I have read a lot of post and it seems like the module is a high fail item and if it fails after the manufactures warranty then we are left with a pretty hefty bill just to get one of the safety features to work. Gm needs to fix this at their expense given the amount of modules that have failed in the past few years on newer vehicles.
Rear power window has been replaced multiple times, each time it develops cracks and leaks water causing possible mold in the truck cabin.

There was a brake system failure and the brakes stopped working while going 50 mph.
I was a front seat passenger in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and was properly wearing my seatbelt at the time of the incident. The vehicle struck a deer, and during the collision, the passenger seatbelt failed to properly restrain me. I was thrown forward and struck the windshield. The seatbelt did not appear to lock or tighten as expected during impact. It is unknown whether the seatbelt pretensioner or airbag system activated properly. This created a serious safety risk, as the seatbelt did not perform its intended function of restraining the occupant during a crash. The vehicle was declared a total loss following the incident and is no longer available for inspection. The incident was documented through insurance and/or police reports. There were no known warning lights or prior indications of a problem with the seatbelt system before the crash. This failure resulted in occupant injury risk due to lack of proper restraint during the collision.
I was driving my vehicle when the check engine light came on and a message then came across the screen and stated the truck would no longer shift if I didn’t stop driving it. I took it immediately to autonation Chevrolet service on Nov 9. I received it back on 11/26 my service advisor said it passed inspection that no work was completed I needed to use high synthetic oil and filters for my truck to keep it going. This doesn’t sound correct when I’ve owned several chevy/GMC trucks. I only have 33k miles on my truck and want the recall fixed. Please help me get this taken care of. Transmission shudders and slipping gears at only 100k miles.
Vehicle: 2021 Chevrolet silverado issue: infotainment system failure after gm?pushed ota update description of problem: on 10/31/2025, my vehicle’s infotainment system attempted an over?the?air software update. The update failed and the screen has been locked ever since, displaying only the message: “update failed – return to dealer. ” as a result: - I cannot access any settings (clock, preferences, system menus). - all warning chimes and signal sounds (turn signal click, seatbelt reminder, back seat reminder, etc. ) are disabled. - the backup camera still functions, but no other infotainment features are usable. - the system is completely unresponsive to reset attempts. I brought the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer, who verified that it was the ota update that caused the failure, they attempted a reflash but was unsuccessful. They now claim the entire infotainment unit must be replaced at my expense, even though the failure was caused by gm’s own update which I neither approved, initiated, or requested. My vehicle is out of warranty, but this was not a wear?and?tear issue — it was introduced by gm’s software. Safety concern: the loss of audible warnings and chimes poses a safety risk. Drivers rely on these alerts for seatbelt reminders, turn signal confirmation, and other critical notifications. A manufacturer?pushed update disabled these among other functions including radio, navigation, and all vehicle settings. Resolution attempts: - dealer attempted reprogramming on 11/6 (charged $295) but failed and state I need a new infotainment system. - gm customer assistance refused to provide goodwill coverage. - vehicle remains stuck in failed update state as pictured. Request: I am submitting this complaint because gm’s ota update disabled core safety features of my vehicle along with other basic features such as radio. I believe this is a manufacturer defect that should be investigated and addressed, regardless of warranty status.
The air conditioning only blows hot air. The vehicle was inspected by my mechanic and states that the compressor and belt have failed and needs to be replaced. I realize that my 2020 silverado is out of warranty, but after looking into this situation, I have found that gm has had known air conditioning issues with certain silverado models, especially 2019-2021. I believe this is a widespread defect and should be covered and repaired through a goodwill program. I am bringing the silverado for repairs to my mechanic on 10/31/25 as I live in south florida and cannot continue driving this vehicle without air conditioning.
Onstar module not working. Stop working in October of 2025 after a software update.
While driving down ih10 in boerne, TX on oct 15, 2025, I saw smoke coming into the vehicle from the a/c vents. I immediately pulled over and put it in park, opened the driver door to get out and turned back to my truck to flames shooting out between the rear passenger side of the cab and in front on the bed of the truck. I had a uhaul trailer in tow and immediately unhooked it to get it away from the truck. I returned to my truck to retrieve my phone and proceeded to watch in desbelief as my truck and belongings went up in flames. It was fully engulfed within 30 seconds with no warnings from inside the truck while driving. Took firefighters over two hours to distinguish the flames fully.

It burns a significant amount of oil. I had an oil consumption test completed with a gm dealership, they state it is in their guidelines of standard. It burns around 2 quarts of oil within 5000 miles, so between oil changes. The add oil alert popped up while I was driving down the highway. My truck has 33500 miles on it, it should not be normal for a new truck to burn that much oil. They will not check my engine to identify the cause because they state it is within their standards.
