Brake lines and fuel lines must be replaced due to excessive rusting. Blew a brake line and had no brakes at all. Additionally, the frame has rusted through and had to be welded. Looking at repair costs between $1500 - $3000 depending upon how this goes.

My wife and I own a 2003 Chevrolet silverado z-71. The car is 8 years old with only 17,714 miles on the odometer. It has been parked outside on my asphalt drive way. The vehicle looks to be in perfect condition. I took the vehicle to a non-general motors repair shop to have the brakes looked at. After the vehicle had been hoisted up and inspected, I was asked to look at the amount of rust on the frame, differential housing, brakes, calipers, etc. The rust was so bad that it was literally flaking off the frame and differential housing. The mechanic was concerned about the safety of driving the vehicle. On July 22, 2011, I took the vehicle to the dealership (sullivans o'neill's Chevrolet and Buick, inc. In avon, CT) that I had purchased the truck from. I was advised not to drive the truck a lot as it was, in the service manager's opinion, unsafe. The service manager gave me a customer service phone number for gm. I called the number, set up a case file number and waited to hear a response to my complaint. None of the 3 people who were put on the case would even give me their last names. After about a week and a half, on August 2, I received a call from "maria" who informed me that there was nothing that gm would do for me. It was beyond the warranty, etc. I asked for a written response of their position and was refused. We are now left with an otherwise perfectly good truck that is unsafe to drive. There was enough prior work performed on the truck by the dealer that the severe rusting should have been brought to my attention.

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While the vehicle was being serviced, the contact was informed that the frame was rusted beneath the driver side between the box and the cab. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that he would be responsible for repair costs. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 169,354 and the current mileage is 169,439. Updated 2/17/11 updated 03/09/11.
The entire frame has rusted out on the truck we just had to get rid of it due to not being able to get inspection sticker on the vehicle,gm holds no accountability for this and there is plenty of complaints from others who have the same issue.

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the frame was severely corroded and the vehicle was no longer operable as a result. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who deemed the vehicle as destroyed due to the severity of the frame rust and corrosion. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 165,000.
Extensive frame rust from middle of shackles in rear to the back bumber. Cross member failing and several brake lines rusting and need replaced. Vehicle has 64000 miles on it. Good maintenance kept. Corner panels rusting along with both rear brake assemblies and brake dust covers have rusted off. Spare tire cable and mechanical mechanism to lower and raise the tire are rusted. Shackle mounts on both the left and right rear are almost completely rusted through the frame and are in danger of coming off. Had to weld a brace on both left and right rear frame to prevent failure in that area so that vehicle is somewhat safe to drive. Damaged statred to occur around 2005 and has progressively gotten worse throughout the year. Vehicle does sit for long durations in my yard.
