Well about mid 2012 the brake lines just rust out in the middle of the truck and the rear. My girl friend was driving it to work and lost all the pedal pressure. Thank god she was going up in the parking garage. Right now I'm trying to replace line fuel lines. It just started pouring gas out after I just got to work. I nursed it home and made it. The return line is just all rusted out. Then I noticed all three lines where all rusted out. It's to bad nothing has been done yet I can't afford this! it is well known and understood by many that this is a big problem. Also to top that the frame looks more rusted than the 1989 Dodge I just got ride of. I wash under the truck through out winter and don't understand why it's so bad already.

While stopped at an intersection at a red light, the vehicle started to creep forward toward people in the crosswalk. Depressing the brake pedal further resulted in it fading, ending in a fully depressed position with no more pedal travel available. The vehicle continued to roll forward into the crosswalk. Placing the transmission in neutral stopped vehicle movement. After stopping and inspecting under the hood and under the front end of vehicle showed leaking brake fluid from one of the metallic brake lines serving the right front brake. After taking the vehicle to my local gm dealer and placing it on the service rack, inspection showed that all the metallic brake lines are severely rusted over the majority of the line surface. The right front line disintegrated to the point where the line separated while checking the condition of the line. The other brakes lines are rusted to the point where failure is imminent. All the metallic brake lines from the master cylinder, down to the abs control module and then out to each brake caliper must be replaced. The failure of the braking system created a serious situation that could have resulted in bodily injury to the pedestrians in the crosswalk. Without placing the transmission in neutral it would have eventually struck a pedestrian. In addition to the brake lines, the fuel lines show excessive rust as well. The dealer does not recommend replacement of the fuel lines at this time, but replacement will be required in the near future.
Had hooked truck to a car trailer and stepped on brakes to put truck in drive and brake pedal went to floor, there was no brakes at all. Upon examining I found that three brake lines had failed. The truck was towed to a local garage and they found that all brake lines and also the fuel lines were badly rusted and had to be replaced.
Leaving my property I stopped to close gate. I smelled gas, looked under at fuel tank and fuel line was spraying fuel onto muffler. I removed truck bed and found animal (squirrel) had chewed hole in plastic pressure fuel line at tank connection. Plastic not appropriate for high pressure fuel line. I have pictures of damaged line.

After returning to the truck from an errand I started the engine and, upon depressing the brake pedal to put the vehicle in gear, the brake pedal went to the floor. No warning lamps of any sort were illuminated prior to the brake pedal going to the floor. Pumping of the pedal did not produce any resistance. After a few minutes the brake fluid level warning lamp came on. Brake fluid was added but did not result in any resistance from the pedal. Had to have the truck towed home where it then sat over-night. The next morning I observed a large wet spot on the driveway just below the driver’s side door. I looked underneath and saw that all of the brake lines going into or out of the abs module were severely corroded and at least one had obviously been leaking brake fluid. The truck was towed to a Chevrolet dealer. I arrived as they were raising the truck on a lift. Evidently they also added some brake fluid because quite a large puddle was forming on the shop floor below where the brake lines enter the abs module. The technician, the service consultant, and I all observed the rusted brake lines, and fluid was literally dripping from one that had obviously burst. The dealer advised that gm does not make replacement steel brake lines so all the lines would need to be hand fabricated by the technician. Dealer also advised that the abs module may have to be replaced because of how corroded the brake line fittings are (fittings are steel, abs module is aluminum) where they screw into the module. We also observed that the fuel lines were severely corroded. I have owned many vehicles far older and with far more mileage and have never had to replace the steel brake lines. I believe the design is flawed (the routing and placement of lines and module) or the brake line material (steel, instead of stainless steel) is insufficient. I have photos and the old parts.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated when the brakes were depressed, after starting the vehicle, the brake pedal extended to the floor. The dealer diagnosed that the brake line and fuel lines were covered with rust. The entire frame was rusted as well. The manufacturer was not contacted regarding the failure. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The failure and current mileage was 48,000. Rvk.

Brake lines and fuel lines must be replaced due to excessive rusting. Blew a brake line and had no brakes at all. Additionally, the frame has rusted through and had to be welded. Looking at repair costs between $1500 - $3000 depending upon how this goes.

2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 4 wheel drive z71 off road, 58420 miles, was stopped with foot depressed on brake pedal, felt pedal go all the way to the floor. Had to accelerate and had no brakes. Brake fluid leak due to rusted brake line. After further inspection all brake lines, fuel lines, ehcu brake line connection are all rusted. Brake line is in the process of being replaced but at a stand still at the moment due to a leak at the ehcu connection due to pitting, there isn't a tight connection. Still in the process of repairs. Have all parts.
Brake line failure on 2000 chevy Silverado 1500. Has happened twice due to lines rusting out, and now mechanic says fuel lines are rusting out. I live in ky with little salt and have heard numerous other complaints about the same issue. Driving along and bam, no brakes due to corrosion. Last time it happened to my wife and pregnant daughter in law. Someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed if it hasn't already happened. Gm has our tax dollars and should use some of it to recall and fix this deadly problem. This is costing between $400. 00 to $600. 00 to repair. Local mechanic has said it is a constant problem with these vehicles in this year range, along with tahoes.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The gas line rusted and clogged all of the injectors with rust. The dealer replaced the gas line and cleaned the injectors. The current and failure mileages were 24,147. Updated 10/14/08 updated 10/24/08.
My drivers side hub went out about 120,000 miles. Replaced it, went out less than over year later, then again less than 6 months later . Tailgate latch broke before then, about one year later, fuel pump went out. Front running lights always seem to have a light out. 2009 rack and pinion went out, replaced it, then one year later went out again. U joint went out about same time. And ignition stuck and couldn't take out of gear or turn off. Fuel line unclipped and dumped all my gas,2010 transmission went out. Now my passenger side hub assembly has gone out for first time with abs light on and wheel clanking and separating. Rack and pinion blown also. Repairs not cheap, and always happens at financially bad time. So now it sits in driveway broke down and I'm trying to find a hub for cheap so I can get around again to work etc. Seems like everytime I fix something another part goes out. Never heard about any recall problems till now, and would like to know about any options of getting repair. Its costing me weeks of off time from work. And bills piling up, rent past due, no money to repair, and affecting my could've life. Any help appreciated. I like chevy, buy just feel like mine seems to have allot of problems that has been described in your page I read. In fact had every problem listed plus . Please help if you can. [xxx]

Fuel lines running under the truck are rusted , causing a leak when the truck is running and thereafter until the fuel line is drained when the motor is turned off.
My 1999 chevy Silverado 1500 4wd vehicle would lurch and stall as if it weren't getting enough fuel. The fuel filter was replaced and 2 hours later the same symptoms occurred. Eventually the fuel pump and injectors #7 & #8 were replaced at a cost of $1413. 84. Three weeks later the same symptoms occurred. It has been determined that the fuel line is rusted out & there was a TSB #000604024; however, we were never notified of this. Replacement of the fuel line etc. Is now estimated to cost another $1500. 00. We will be asking for the old fuel line as proof of the rust that caused this problem.
