9 Radiator problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 12/28/2020

My radiator is leaking with only 48000 miles on it. There has been a recall on the model years prior to and after mine, for the same problem. A radiator should not have cracks caused from a thermostat problem in this short amount of miles. It is a slow leak and I am going to have to replace the radiator before it causes other problems or gets worse.

10 Radiator problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

13 Radiator problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

Bulletin no pi1513f describes an issue with chevy silverados (amongst other models) and the radiators leaking due to over cycling of the thermostat. I have a 2018 that is barely 2 years old, and a leaking radiator! gm is doing nothing to own up to this issue, and they are expecting me to pay the entirety for a replacement, and I don't even have confidence it won't happen again. This bulletin should be extended to cover all years until gm proves they have a solution in place. It is completely unethical for gm to not address this issue and expect me to put this much money into a brand new truck. I slowly began to notice the coolant reservoir going down. I eventually brought it to my dealership (twice), and on the second visit they found the leak, although mileage was over the bumper to bumper warranty during the second visit. It is a very slow leak.

14 Radiator problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 09/27/2020

Coolant leak on driver side of radiator. This causes truck to overheat when driving on city streets or highways & at idle on occasion. It causes truck to overheat every time when hauling a load(pulling a trailer and/or boat) on city streets & highways. I can visibly see coolant leaking from the radiator. Driving with the ac on makes the overheating worse.

15 Radiator problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The vehicle was taken to jeff schmitt Chevrolet south (125 s gebhart church rd, miamisburg, OH 45342) and it was stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The mechanic refused to look at the radiator. The contact reminded the dealer that TSB #: p1513f described the same symptoms as the issue however, the dealer stated that the VIN was not a match for the TSB. The contact stated that the issue was that the thermostat caused the radiator to thermo-cycle or quickly cool and heat up causing the radiator to leak. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 59,680.

16 Radiator problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/02/2020

I was on a family trip with my wife and kids and the engine temperature raised and system said to idle engine until it cooled down. I was able to cool the engine down and get the truck home. The Chevrolet dealer diagnosed a coolant leak at the radiator. Service bulletin pi1513f refers to this as being caused by a faulty thermostat which results in fractures in the radiator. "this condition may be the result of excessive thermocycles within the cooling system caused by excessive cycling of the thermostat. These excessive thermocycles within the coolant system may cause the tubes to fatigue, crack and leak at the radiator headers. To correct this condition, a new thermostat has been designed that eliminates the thermostats excessive cycling. " the quoted cost to replace the radiator and thermostat at the dealer is $1800 gm has apparently extended the warranty to 100000 miles under a special coverage adjustment on the 2014 models, but not the other affected model years.

17 Radiator problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/09/2020

The plastic radiator has cracked and is leaking coolant heavily. Truck still under powertrain warranty by gm is only offering to cover 20% of the $1,823 repair cost. I noticed it when stopped to get gas, the vehicle leaking approximately 1. 5 gallons of coolant while stopped for approximately 3 minutes. This caused the vehicle to overheat and needed to add coolant just to drive to shop.

19 Radiator problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/30/2020

2014 Silverado 1500 quality issues my 2014 Silverado 1500 needs a new $1,840 radiator/oil cooler. The truck has 48,000 miles purchased new 5+ years ago, so it exceeds the 5 year warranty period. At my last 5,000 mile oil change, the oil was found to be 2 quarts low with oil in the coolant. Gm has refused (twice) to assist in the cost of repairs because I did not use a gm auto service for my oil changes. I had the oil changed every 5,000 miles with durablend by an independent quick oil change service, a mileage that exceeds the gm 7,500 mileage recommendation. I explained to gm ceo mary bara that I was upset with this decision - a truck with 48,000 miles should not have this problem and that gm is not assuming responsibility for its quality problems. I further advised that I would share my experience with others. Less than six months ago the brake booster pump had to be replaced - but luckily it was under warranty. The truck has had multiple recalls. Now the gm service department is charging me $147 to diagnose the problem because I'm not engaging them to do the repair. My conclusion is that this truck has chronic quality problems. This appears to be a common problem after checking internet -also a friend had a similar problem with yukon. Obviously it will be the last gm vehicle I own.
