The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse and depressing the accelerator pedal, the power steering failed to operate as needed. Neither a dealer nor an independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v175000 (steering); however, the VIN or the model was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.

Vehicle will cut off as if an electrical short and the service stabilitrak indicator will flash on the dashboard along with warning chimes. This has happened several times at low speed (1st gear) especially while turning. The steering wheel locks and can not be turned. I've almost been involved in an accident this week because the truck turns off while making a turn. I was at a stop sign waiting to turn left having to cross 2 lanes of on coming traffic and when I accelerated the trucks electrical cut out and forced the steering wheel to go straight I gave it more gas and the truck turned back on. On another day I pulled up and put it in reverse turned right and the truck shut off I had to put it in park and restarted it to back in my driveway. Gm need to fix this.

Truck was intermittently losing power steering and shutting off/reseting itself. Was a loss of electrical and was throwing stabilitrak service warning. Would not stay on due to truck resetting itself but loss of power happened typically when I was in parking lot or driveway. Could have easily been on the highway which could have been deadly. Dealership found that the battery cables and module were not getting enough power to truck. Replaced these and it seems okay now. Total cost was ~$1200. I see several recalls for battery cable issues but nothing pulling on my 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ltz crew cab.

Electric power steering failure due to tie rod bellows failure, this is an incredibly dangerous and irresponsible engineering design, moisture entered the electric motor causing it to fail, my wife's failed at highway speeds and almost caused a wreck, she could have been killed, if I could afford to sue I would, our other vehicle is down and we are forced to drive this dangerous vehicle putting us and others in harms way, this is terrible and absurd.

Without warning (no warning lights or previous mechanical indications) the power steering failed making it extremely difficult to turn the steering wheel. Fortunately this happened while I was parking and not on the highway. The truck had approximately 48,000 miles on it at the time. (8/30/25) repairs required replacing the rack and pinion steering and a heavily corroded "grounding strap". Repair cost was appx $3500.

While I was driving, my steering wheel was locking up, my dash lights were going off and on, and while my truck was on I wasn’t able to steer. It happened twice that day.
Issue is based off of this service bulletin, but gm has failed to call a recall on this for coverage. I was driving my daughter to softball practice. Every few minutes there would be a "stabilitrak" message showing on the driving information area. Then in slower speeds my dashboard screen would blank out and then go back to carplay. Then once I approached a parking lot at slower speeds my vehicle lost total power and shut down. Then had to switching the gear to park, then turn off the ignition key, then wait a few seconds and turn the key on to start the truck. It started as normal and was able to park in the parking space. Very scary and this is a very serious issue, I could have been in an accident with my daughter. This has to be addressed, I can't be the only one having this issue.

Engine shut off while driving and was unable to restart.
Power steering locked up. Dashboard warnings "service power steering drive with care, service trailer brake system and driver assist disabled".
Wheel will lock up randomly on slow turns like an intersection, parking lot or anything. It’s very random and there’s no reason why it does it. The truck drives fine most of the time. It will say stabitrack service on my dash then it will go away my wheel locks up so I can’t turn it anymore then it will release like 10 seconds after. I nearly been in two accidents from this. The dealership can’t find out what’s wrong with the truck and I don’t feel comfortable knowing it’s not fix.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50-55 mph, the vehicle lost motive power and started sputtering. The contact stated that the messages “service esp” and “service parking brake” were displayed, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the residence, turned off, and the contact waited for 30 minutes to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was then driven to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed that the lifters had collapsed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000. The VIN was not available.
Steering wheel position sensor obd code c0710-5a.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed to turn in the intended direction. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle came to a complete stop. The contact stated that when the vehicle came to a stop, the steering wheel was independently reset. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed grounding strap. The contact was informed that the grounding strap needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 24,155.
While driving the steering wheel started locking up and jerking. And it’s really hard to turn the wheel. ( power steering drive with care) noted on the dashboard. Very scary.
Lost power steering in the middle of a corner. . Almost but me into pole . . No warning. . Later on warning came on. Truck has 32000 miles on it.
No power steering alert showed up to service power steering. Very dangerous driving and power steering goes out.
Belt tensioner/idler pulley began chirping during warm up after starting engine. Noticed serpentine belt was beginning to fray on edges. Dealership confirmed the pulley failed prematurely and caused the serpentine belt to be damaged. Dealership replaced pulley and belt. It was just after warranty expired. The belt is supposed to be replaced at 100,000 miles as routine maintenance, but the failure of the pulley, which the dealer informed me was also premature, but common, was not covered under warranty. Power steering was lost one time in park and a message showed on the dash, but went away after restarting the vehicle.

I own a 2016 chevy Silverado 1500 with around 61,000 miles on it. I work from home at the moment so I do not put a lot of miles on the vehicle. I drove the vehicle last on July 5 2025 and it sat in our driveway until July 10 2025. I got into the truck and the dash read “service power steering drive with care” and the power steering would not work and it was very difficult to turn the wheel. I tried starting the truck again and the message still displayed and the loss of power steering became intermittent. The power steering would work briefly and then the steering would lock up become stiff again. I let the truck sit over night and came out the next day in the afternoon to see what it was doing. I started the truck and the message did not display I tried to drive it up and down the road to see if it would come back. I drove for about 5 minutes and parked it back in my driveway and the issue came right back. I’m afraid to drive it completely on any main roads for the fact it might come back while I’m driving and cause me to crash or worse.
When turning the power steering gave out and made the truck completely lose power while going and turning at a slow speed.
The power steering goes in and out when trying to turn into parking spots or slowly turning. All the time!!!!!!.
I went to drive my truck and it would start but I got a “ service power steering no assist “, service rear vision camera, service trailer brake system. Then it wouldn’t start and got the “ lost communication with fuel pump control module, back up camera was flashing in and out and license plate lights would flash with turn signal on.
Twice know I have had the truck shutdown when turning to the left at slow speed . Took the truck to a maint shop and they had three codes in the computer but nothing they could fix so they cleared the codes and said to drive it and if it happens again to bring it in and they'll see what they can find out ,but my have to go to agm service center to have it checked . So I'm drive carefully and hope not to have a accident.
My 2025 chevy silverado zr2 has experienced the same dangerous system failure five times. While driving, every warning light on the dash activates, I lose power steering, and the vehicle completely shuts down and won’t restart. This creates an extreme safety risk — the first failure happened on a local road, but most recently, it occurred while my family was driving out of state during a holiday. The truck has now been out of service for over 50 cumulative days across these repeated incidents. Gm has accepted a lemon law claim but has not resolved it, leaving me without a vehicle and no clear path forward. These systemic failures present serious risks to me, my family, and other drivers. The latest failure occurred in July 2025, and the vehicle remains at bill cramer Chevrolet in panama city beach, FL with no resolution. I am still making loan payments and paying for transportation out-of-pocket, without any support from the manufacturer.

Initially, turbo charger issues. Dealer after 2 weeks corrected issues with the turbo charger. We were provided loaner. Dealer took 28 days, the second time, to supposedly remedy transmission/shifting issues. First we were told it was a valve port body. Then we were told they had to remove the pan, etc. , all part of the process. Then the parts were on backorder. Finally, at the 11th hour, they installed a rebuilt transmission. Without a loaner for 2 weeks. Got the truck back and within 24 hours, the truck suddenly lost power steering while driving around curve at aprox. 30 to 35 mph. , check engine light on, power steering light on, trailer brakes warning light on, etc. Had it towed back to dealer in the morning and told it would be a priority. Called at 5pm. Truck has not been seen. It's not a car. It's a work truck. Seems the dealership is swamped with silverado trucks with similar transmission issues waiting for valve ports. No loaner vehicles to be had the second time after 2 weeks. Not sure what they will tell us tomorrow.
At low speeds and turning right or left the steering wheel locks up if wheel is turned quickly and engine quits momentarily, power is lost to instruments and radio, etc. Or in one case the vehicle has shut off completely. I saw that there was a recall for this on earlier models but not for my VIN (2016 Silverado 1500).
Lost power steering! almost impossible to make any turns. The dash has esc fault and power steering fault. Says drive careful! how can I drive careful if I can't turn the truck? only 79k miles! gm must recall their bad design and replace it with a design that is proven not to fail!.
I was on my way home from work on [xxx] coming around the lakes with no median or shoulder when the engine in my 2021 silverado started rattling, temperature gauge started going up, and losing power. Within a matter of minutes my truck shut off leaving me stranded in the middle of a four lane highway with no safe location to stop. The engine wouldn’t even turn over to try and crank back up so I could get the truck out of the road. After help getting my truck to a safe location I noticed oil and antifreeze leaking out of the bottom side of the engine. This truck was at love Chevrolet for engine failure on 8/14/24 and was told it was fixed and was never told about ongoing issues with this particular 6. 2 engine. I found out a few weeks ago while trying to trade my truck in to jim browne Chevrolet dealer that my particular truck the 2021 Chevrolet silverado high country with the 6. 2 engine had known issue with the engine locking up and was afraid to take my truck in on trade due to his service manger going through this same experience. So I paid top dollar for a high end Chevrolet truck to be stuck with not being able to trade it and now not being able to drive it. I called the dealer and was told that my trucks VIN number was not part of the recall for this issue but there are trucks that are the same year, model, and engine type that are covered under this recall. I’m now stuck making a 850 a month payment on a 58000 dollar truck that I can’t drive and can’t afford to replace an engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Driving down the road and turning into my driveway, the power steering went out, the truck cut off - then after a few minutes, the truck started, then the display showed “open then close driver window” & now displays “service power steering, drive with care”.
Randomly. The power steering has stopped working. There is a widely reported issue with the power steering in 2020 silverados and this model now needs to be included.
Loss of power in my power steering due to corrosion of a ground strap. Found service bulletin 23-na-201 issued 12/23 for the exact problem. The dealership stated there was no bulletin or covered under warranty and is being replaced with cost to myself. I had intermittent low speed "jerking" occasionally a few days before up to the incident.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel became inoperable with the power steering warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering control module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
I have a 2016 Silverado 1500 I bought new. It only has 33000 miles on it. Last week I was backing my boat into the shop and the steering wheel jerked back and forth on its own pretty violently and a stabilitrac warning popped up and the radio screen kinda went dead for a second. Then last night I was pulling in a parking space at a restaurant and it did it again. This time it jerked and went dead enough to cut the truck completely off. I had to put it in park and crank the truck again. It actually reset the radios time and date.
Truck has been experiencing intermittent stalling since 1200 miles. Was reported to the dealer and manufacturer. At approximately 20,000 miles (spring 2025) the truck stalled out at high speed on the highway at approximately 70 mph near tennessee during a work trip. When stalled, truck lost its ability to steer and break causing the truck to drive off the road and only stopped due to the truck rolling to a stop off-road. Luckily nothing was seriously damaged and it was a rural area with minimal traffic and flat grass lands on the side of the highway.
