2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 04/10/2012

Brake lining has premature rust, in which, caused it to leak and failed to stop vehicle. I was the fourth vehicle to pull up to a red light, when I noticed that I didn't have any brakes. The speed limit is 45 mph at this road location and I was trying to slow my acceleration to come to a stop. The brake went to the floor on my first attempt to slow down and come to a stop. I did not have time to stop my truck before hitting the smaller car in front of me! I swung my truck to the burm of the road and passed all the vehicles stopped at the red light, eventually going through the light by way of the burm of the road. My driver side mirror was broken in this incident. The brakes did slow me down and allow me to come to a stop with the use of my emergency brake but, it was after my vehicle passed all the cars stopped at the red light and me stopping in the middle of the intersection. Lucky there was no cars in the way! the brakes had some stopping power but, were not enough for this size truck and the pedal did not engage till it was just about to the floor. Broken lining has been replaced by inspection mechanic but, stated he will not inspect this vehicle until all the lines are replaced. He has stated that all the lines have premature rust and could break at any time and will not take the responsiblilty to say they are okay to pass inspection. I also, had to replace all 4 factory brake rotors at 14,752 miles. The brake pads wore out prematurely and when I had my mechanic replace them, I was told that the rotors were rusted and pitted prematurely. I still have them, I can't beleive how bad they deterorated! I was surprised with such little mileage that the rotors and brakes went bad.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 05/12/2011

I want to register a safety complaint with regard to the oem brake pads that were installed by an independent shop on my 2001 chevy silverado hd 2500. The pads were purchased by the shop (levine's garage) in new windsor NY from barton birks chevy in newburgh NY and installed on my truck in Feb 2009 in addition to new rotors. I recently smelled brake burning and disassembled the brakes to discover the pads on the drivers side were pitted and scored. The rotors showed no damage. I replaced the pads and returned the damaged pads to the shop and was told they had a one year warranty and it was passed the warranty period. The pads on the passenger side are fine. Both sets of pads have about 90% material still on them. I believe these pads are defective and would like your intervention.

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

Rear disc brake rotors on 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd are rusting to the point where they will have to be replaced for a second time at 68,000 miles. The first occurrence was 7/28/2005 at 38,000 miles, now at 68,000 miles, the vehicle braking performance has severely degraded to the point where it feels like it's braking only with the front disc brakes. I was told by the service personal that the rear rotors and pads will need to be replaced, not because of wear, but because of rust.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/12/2009

Near total brake failure. Rust scale on rotors (all four wheels) eating into brake pads reducing brake pad to 20% of arrear. Brake pads do not clean rust from rotor. This is an insidious failure of braking system causing loss of brake efficiency.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 06/13/2009

2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd, 6. 0 4wd LS. Current mileage: 94,000 miles. Vehicle is well out of warranty. In iowa. 1st owner. Brake failure or really spongy brakes. Requires multiple pedal pumps to slow vehicle down or applying brake pedal to the floor to stop at stop sign in city driving. I removed the front tires and inspected the pads and rotors. Front pads had 75%+ material on them. The inside of each rotor had 50% contact surface on them. I took them into o'reillys in council bluffs, iowa where they turned them down enough to clean up both sides of rotors. Rotor were rusting and flaking. I have not inspected rear rotors or pads as of yet. Was told by technician that Chevrolet had problems with rotor. After replacing turned rotor and installing new pads brakes go unchanged. Inspection of rear rotors and pads will occur 22 June 2009. With numerous complaints concerning a major safety issue, gm/Chevrolet should invest in dealing with correcting this issue to avoid losing their loyal customers. I understand that a few here and there, but when multiple chevy site say the exact same thing. . . . How many of us silverado owners haven't posted on here??? I love my silverado and will try to keep it until the wheels fall off. . . Ok wrong choice of words. . . . But if there is a means to correct this, whether if it is on the 1500 to the 3500hd, especially brake system, gm/Chevrolet needs to roger up and fix this! having brakes are important, unless your a crash test dummy!!!!.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/17/2007

I own a 2004 chevy silverado with approximately 52000 miles on it. When trying to come to a stop the abs brakes pulsate and the pedal drops to the floor, resulting in poor braking distance or stopping in general. I have put new rotors and pads on front and back axles and it did not help. Now I find that there is recall on previous year silverado. I believe that this recall needs to be extended because my pickup is a 04 and it has the same problem. I'm afraid somebody is going to get hurt or maybe worse. This is a serious problem. It happens all of the time.

14 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 06/08/2007

2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd with approimately 32000 miles needed to replace all brakes and rotors. Rear rotors and pads were severely rusted and damaged. I believe it is a quality defect in either the rotors or I nthe brake system itself. This truck was bought at local dealership(poughkeepsie Chevrolet). It went through nys inspection at this same local dealership. Tires were rotated regularly. Truck had been inspected at 25,000 miles with no indication(from dealer) that brakes were wearing. Took truck in to have them look at they quoted me a price of over $1,800. 00 to replace all brakes and rotors. The mechanics and service manager pointed to a pile of rotors in the back and indicated it happens all the time. Further search of internet and talking to other Chevrolet owners, indeed indicates that the brake system on this model year truck has not performed to a quality standard. I am an attentive person so I noticed that something was not right. Others may not be as attentive and without the right attention, these brakes systems could completely fail due to this defect and cause crash and injury. Chevrolet should acknowledge the defect and take corrective actions.
