36 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/08/2015

The steel fuel lines and steel brake lines are corroding and leaking. On October 8th 2015 my truck begain to leak diesel fuel from the rusted fuel lines. While fixing the fuel leak the technician also notices that the brake lines were also starting to rust and will need to be replaces soon before they fail.

Failure Date: 09/13/2015

I drove my truck to my sons house for him to use parked it. When my son got into it to do a chore it had no brakes. The front brake line that goes over to the right wheel had burst without any warring. Just lucky he was still in his driveway.

38 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/07/2015

Rear brake line failure due to corrosion. Failure point between gas tank and rear frame rail where hydraulic line is mounted on lh side of vehicle. Upon applying brakes, the line blew causing near total brake failure coming to stop light narrowly avoiding the car in front of me. There was just enough pressure for front brakes to grab barely stopping the vehicle. There is no reason for this to happen considering the coating technology available in 2004. This truck is rated @ 9200 gvw with a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds. If this truck was fully loaded the results could have been catastrophic in the right situation.

39 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/04/2015

The brake line system is incredibly rusted. I have never seen so much corrosion before on a vehicles brake lines. Luckily, the line that runs front to back ruptured while moving slowly down my own driveway! I looked at the rest of the lines underneath the truck and was amazed at the condition of these lines. I am very disturbed that these lines are so badly effected by "normal" new england road conditions. It is quoted from the dealer that it will cost me $1300. 00 or more to replace the line set. Disgraceful.

40 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Just as we pulled into our driveway pulling a fifth wheel camper as my family was returning from a camping trip our brakes failed. Cause was a pinhole corroded in a steel brake line. We had been driving on mountainous roads and had this happened during the trip instead of miraculously as we arrived at home a tragic accident would have been a high probability. The truck has been well cared for and is in excellent condition with very minor corrosion underneath. Vehicle has been garaged much of the time and has had very limited exposure to corrosive chemicals. This was a total surprise and shock. Due tto the cost of this vehicle we limit usage to extend life and with the care given this vehicle this should not have happened.

41 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 08/31/2015

Driving to pick up my son from work on side streets, traveling about 25mph when my brake went to the floor. Almost rear ended car at stop sign. Got out of truck and found large spot under my truck, brake fluid. Had it towed to brake shop and mechanic informed me my brake lines were rusting though and needed to replace all brake lines. Also told me he has seen this with 3 or 4 other chevy trucks lately. Found other complaints after telling my story. Heard this is a known problem with these trucks. . I bought this truck new & have had it rust proofed 12 times. Thank you.

42 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

As traffic slowed ahead of me I applied my brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I then used my parking brake to stop. I stopped an inch away from the car ahead of me. Vehicle was towed to repair shop. Upon inspection the technician said the brake line failed and the other brake lines were also rusted bad and needed to be replaced. He also said the fuel lines were rusted and should be replaced soon. I was very lucky I was able to stop in time . I could have injured other people in front of me.

43 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/23/2015

I was towing my RV. When I hit the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor. Scared the blank out of me since I had my wife and two kids with me. The brake line for the rear brakes blew due to corrosion. The only thing that saved us was the trailer brakes or we would have had a serious accident. Gm is so cheap they build their brake system with lines that easily corrode in stead of stainless. There should be a recall. The internet is littered with this issue. There should be a regulation forcing manufacters to use corrosion proof brake lines. Ridiculous!!!.

44 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/11/2015

Traveling down a hill when a driver in front of me decided to make a left turn rather abruptly, causing me to have to make a panic stop. I pressed the brake and the vehicle started to slow, and then nothing. (brake line burst-ed, which I had been told look rusted during last inspection. ) I blew the horn and swerved to left lane and went around that person and then down the left side of the road avoiding several people coming the other direction. I manage to eventually get the truck stopped by constantly pumping the break after having my life flash in front of my eyes from narrowly avoiding multiple accidents.

45 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/08/2015

During a highway braking event, brake lines blew out due to rusting, causing complete brake failure.

47 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 06/15/2015

The brake lines and fuel lines leaked and were replaced due to excessive corrosion. The front brakes failed while driving. The gas line leaked in my driveway.

48 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 04/22/2015

I was positioning my chevy Silverado 2500 year 2006 to hook up my travel trailer RV. As I was backing up to line up the hitch to the RV ball the brake pedal went to the floor and I lost all braking. I had to put the gear shift in park to stop the slight roll. I looked under the truck and there was brake fluid all over my driveway where it had come out of a corroded brake line under the drivers seat. This truck only has 97,797 mile on it. I am very fortunate that the corroded brake line failed before I was able to hook up the RV and start driving, I could have had a serious accident that might have killed someone.

49 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

I own a 2002 Chevrolet silverado LS hd2500, original owner purchased in June of 2002, currently have 71,000 mile, beautiful truck very well maintained. This is my second complaint being filed on this vehicle concerning my brakes. My first complaint was filed in March of 2014, when my brake lines rusted through and I was left with no brakes. After searching on-line, I found that this is a known problem for these vehicles and there is a recall on some of these vehicles, but not all of them. My complaint today also has to do with my brakes. Once again, I found that some of the vehicles have a recall, but not all of them . The anti-lock brake system would activate, causing my brakes to not work. If I wanted to stop, I couldn't slow down to stop, I would have to brake hard to stop my vehicle, if I tried to slow down to stop, my anti-lock brake system would activate, causing my brakes to not work. I did contact gm, and was told that there was nothing they could do to help resolve this problem with my vehicle because mine was not included in the recall, even though some of my year, make and model had a recall notice. They are well aware of this problem, because they do have a bulletin out informing the dealer how to resolve this problem. Once again, this is the brake system, very dangerous, could be fatal. Not sure why this isn't a priority to resolve.

50 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/26/2015

About two days ago when I pushed my brakes they felt spongy and when I pulled into my driveway I could smell brake fluid. Today I went to move the truck to check it out. The brakes were even more spongy,so I pushed them hard and the brake line ruptured above the fuel tank. The front brakes would not stop the truck, so I had to use the transmission to stop the truck. It must have sprung a small leak two days ago when I noticed the fluid smell and spongy feel. Good thing I wasn't driving on the road when it burst today, because it would not have stopped.

51 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/14/2015

I was traveling home from dropping my dog off at his groomer. I went to brake coming to an intersection to prepare for a change in the light when the brake pedal went straight down to the floor with no warning light in the gauges or information system until after the incident happened. I had very little braking at all and was able to get the truck to my resident without incident. I had the truck towed to a mechanic who informed me the brake line had rusted completely through. I have read many complaints being filed by other chevy silverado owners. When is gm going to be held responsible for failing parts on all of their vehicles? I was a lucky individual that it was early morning and very lite traffic on the road I was traveling.

52 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/10/2015

While I was driving down the street my brakes when out. I was able to make it to my driveway to discover my brake line rutsted and there was a 1 cm hole in the brake line.

The failure mileage was 45,000.

54 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

I had a brake line brake driving my baby to the doc, towed if to the shop & found out all the brake lines & hardware were rusted beyond repair & everything needed replaced, we found that gm had used bad products on their chevy trucks from 99-07 but only recalled 99-03, apparently there's not enough deaths in model years 04-07 to recall, well if we were going faster it prob wouldn't have ended well for us, the cost of the repairs were around $700.

55 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

Pushed brake while approaching a stop sign and brake pedal went to floor. Looked under the truck and could clearly see fluid on the ground and that brake line was leaking. After further look could see the brake lines were corroded and had more than one leak. No previous indication that brakes were about to fail. No fluid in driveway or lack of brake performance before this incident. No warning of any kind. No warning lights came on. Good thing we didn't make it to the freeway.

56 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 11/19/2014

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The contact replaced the front brake lines, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 166,000.

57 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

While towing a 6000 lb. Trailer, the brake peddle went down near floor. I thought trailer brakes were not working properly. Fortunately I was near home. Next morning I noticed large pool of brake fluid under the truck. I found that badly rusted brake lines on the 2003 silverado were leaking.

58 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/18/2014

Brake lines blew front and rear when a motorcycle in front of me slammed his brakes in an emergency stop. Luckily he was towards the side of the road, I slammed my brakes and my pedal went to the floor, I quickly swerved and downshifted and ebraked and miraculously was able to come to a swerving stop avoiding collision but it could have been much worse if I hadn't been able to react so quickly. My truck is very low mileage and meticulously maintained, I have owned it since 2009. There aren't any other cars out there that would have a brake line failure within 8 years and only 64k miles, I'm very upset over what happened.

59 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

I was backing out of my driveway and the brake peddle went to the floor. The rear brake line on the drivers side blew out. It's heavy rust. All the lines look the same way. I can not drive this truck. It is unsafe and I will need to put around $700 into it to get it safe again.

60 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/08/2014

Was entering drive-thru restaurant, gave order, proceeded to window to receive order/pay. Noticed that upon stopping at window, brake pedal started to depress normally, and then went all the way to floor. Within a few seconds smoke started coming into driver compartment thru air vents, smoke could be seen coming out of engine from under hood. Quickly proceeded to move vehicle to empty parking spot/area. Turned vehicle off, extinguished fire burning in engine compartment. Brake line burst sending brake fluid onto exhaust manifolds igniting engine compartment insulation. Could have been a serious incident/fatality of my 5 year old daughter and myself and/or others if travelling at speed and/or not able to extinguish fire quickly. This is an engineering defect with a high potential to cause fatalities/injury that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer.

62 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/28/2014

Excessive corrosion to rear brake lines caused braking malfunction. Could not stop effectively. This happened in my driveway while moving vehicle to another parking space. Both rear brakes do not work. Section of brake line forward of brake line tee on differential failed. I am the original owner of my 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd LS crewcab duramax 6. 6l.

63 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/21/2014

While pulling a 30 boat this weekend my brakes failed. Pedal dropped to the floor . Pulled my 2004 2500hd truck into the shop after using the e-brake and what remained of my brakes to get 4 miles home. Added brake fluid and when I pressed the peddle a shower of fluid sprayed all over the ground. My undercarriage is clean. Removed the fuel tank to find the brake line complete deteriorated. I live in TN and salt is not a major uses here.

64 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

66 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

Pulling my boat on secondary road toward highway, pushed brakes to stop for stop sign, brake pedal went to the floor with no warning or trouble light. Had enough braking force to stop after rolling approx 100 ft. Cautiously drove to gas station/parked vehicle and called a wrecker to take truck 65 miles to my home. On inspection I discovered corroded brake line(steel) had ruptured along routing to back brake. Lots of corrrosion visible on multiple steel lines. I was incredibly lucky to not be travelling faster and in an emergency braking situation.

67 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/16/2014

Had to stop quickly on a major highway pulling a equipment trailer to get something that fell off. While in the process of pulling over to stop on the shoulder my brake pedal went to the floor, my trailer brakes helped to slow to a stop safely on the shoulder of the highway. Upon further inspection of the brake lines from the engine compartment along the frame from the angle to the flat part of the frame under the drivers area the lines looked very rusty from the elements from the seasons.

68 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/12/2014

I had just returned home with a full load (2 yards) of mulch and parked the truck to unload. The truck was perfectly fine. When I finished unloading I went to move the truck and the brake pedal went to the floor and the driver information center indicated "low coolant level". When I checked out what was wrong, I found two brake lines severely rusted with one leaking located under driver's seat area where the lines cross over top of the frame. That is the only area that rusted that I saw so far. There is no other rust underneath on the rest of the lines. My truck does not get heavy use, is frequently housed in a garage and rarely driven in snow/ice conditions (I'm retired). In addition the truck is well maintained and kept clean. In addition, the low coolant level I believe is a computer glitch as the level is fine and unchanged before and after the incident. In my opinion the truck's computer is sending the wrong message for a defect in the primary braking system.

69 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 08/30/2014

I was traveling along at 45 mph. , and gently applied brakes as I was nearing an intersection. The brake pedal suddenly went to the floor, and I had no brakes. Luckily I thought quick enough to step down on the parking brake, or there would have been a major wreck. Turns out that a steel brake line burst that runs along the frame in behind the fuel tank. Has there been any recalls on this problem? seems like they should have been made out of stainless steel so they don't rust. Thank god my 16 year old daughter wasn't driving when it happened!.

70 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 08/29/2014

Brake pedal went to floor after launching my boat. Found that a brake line had ruptured. Glad it didn't happen while I was on the road with the boat in tow. All brakes lines were rusted and I had them replaced following week. Very expensive repair. Found out this is common on these vehicles. Gm really needs to fix this issue.
