Service Brakes Problems of Chevrolet Silverado 2500 - part 2

Chevy duramax trucks, 2011-2016 use a cp4 fuel pump that will eventually fail. The engine shuts off and there is a loss of steering and brakes. This is a major safety issue. I called chevy gm 1800 222 1020 and was told, " we are aware of the problem, have no remedy, no recall has been issued yet, call back in a month". My daughter has a 2015 that failed when she was hauling expensive horses, the dealer put the same type defective pump back in the truck. Every diesel repair shop, dealer, and gm is aware of this defect. There is a class action law suit c/o jnd seattle wa. 1 866 848 0815 that may reimburse owners that have had a failure, assuming they are still alive. Gm needs to recall, and replace these cp4 pumps with a cp3 or whatever they did to correct the issue in 2017 and later engines, prior to failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and was diagnosed with lifters failure. The contact decided not to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

While driving with a trailer connected the display in the truck will say trailer disconnected. Then the light will go away and come back on. The trailer plug and the trailer are connected and the plug is tight. When this happens the trailer braking system is disabled (trailer has no brakes) I can plug the same trailer to Ford or Dodge with no issues. Have had the chevy to the dealer 4 times now and they are unable to duplicate the problem. I have researched the problem on the internet and there are a lot of discussions of other people having the same issue. GMC has replaced the trailer control module, but this did not fix my problem. I am at the point the dealer and GMC are giving me the run around. I bought this truck for commercial use and frequently haul trailers. It is very unsafe when the brakes on the trailer are disabled.

The vehcile only has 1779 miles. The ac unit operated for short period time. The outside temperture was 95 degree fahrenheit all the controls were not inoperate. The a/c compressor pump was not functioning. The only items working was the fan motor blowing hot air. I restated the vehicle and still no cold air output. The dealership said they could not find any problems with a/c unit. The unit operated normaly and the tempertuer is 35 degrees output. The second problem the dash panel emergency light cable was never installed. The dealer had to order the part.

When pulling trailer trailer brakes keep disconnecting.

Electronic trailer brake controller when using disconnects and reconnects turning trailer brakes on and off creating an unsafe situation by never knowing if trailer brakes are going work. Dealer states no problem found with controller and changed trailer plug. Not correcting issue. Tried 2 other trailers same issue occurred. Leading to believe controller is issue. Web search indicates there are many others with similar issue. Dealer states there are no recalls indicating this issue. This has been issue for a few weeks while traveling with a travel trailer.

Charging system failed the system failed with no warning, we were traveling on a country curvy road and about to descend a grade. With the charging system failure, the truck lost power to brakes and steering. It's at the dealer, being inspected etc. No warning lights or message until the failure occured, then a battery light appeared and a charging system failed message.

When pulling trailers I frequently get warning to check trailer wiring. I have gotten this warning with every trailer I have towed to include, my travel trailer(camper), livestock trailer, car hauler trailer and enclosed cargo trailer. It is intermittent but frequent. I am unsure if trailer brakes will engage during this failure.

Vehicle was towing horse trailer. Gave an indication message to check trailer break wiring. I did so and all was working fine. I loaded my horses and pulled out onto the road. Traveling 10 mph the truck completely shut off, no brakes, no warning, I helplessly rolled to a stop. The truck then turned on electrically, but did not start the engine completely by itself. Two minutes later, the truck turned itself off electrically. The motor was never running. I had it towed to a dealership in which it took them five days to repair. The truck has 17,000 miles on it. If I would’ve been traveling on the expressway or going any faster, I could’ve killed people. . I personally have ptsd from ever driving this truck hooked to a trailer again. There should have been some kind of warning system. I should have never lost my brakes. I purchased this truck as a towing vehicle from my horse trailer and now I am terrified to use it!.

Component failed: power steering pump and the power brake booster. Parts are available to inspect. When the component failed you begin to loose power steering and power brakes. This makes it hard to steer and brake. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed the failure of these parts and replaced them at the owner expense. No warning lights came on, components failed without any prior warning. A similar failure was part of recall # n-192268490 and detailed in gm service bulletin 23-na-144 dated August 2023.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph and turning into the driveway, the power steering and braking system malfunctioned. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction and the brake pedal had extended to the floorboard while depressed and the vehicle would not immediately stop. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the engine drive belt had fractured causing the failures. The vehicle was not yet repaired. While towing our camper that has solar power our trailer brakes would randomly disconnect. Sometimes for a few seconds but several times for several minutes. After checking all wiring, doing some research and trial & error we discovered that it is a problem with the truck and the solar on the camper that is making the brakes disconnect. This happens randomly but quite often and it happened to us several times while towing in the mountains of colorado. It is definitely a safety hazzard to not have the trailer brakes. We have towed the same camper with other trucks including the 2023 chevy that we owned before this truck and have never had a problem.

I have been going through a nightmare with my new 2024 Silverado 2500hd with the trailer brake that randomly connects and disconnects. My wife and I live part-time in our 5th wheel RV and pull it on average once a week as we move from place to place for 6 mo out of the year. The issue is very random and we have had the truck at two different dealers to try and solve the problem. The truck dealers point to the RV mfg and the RV mfg point to the truck mfg. After doing quite a bit of searching, I found a gm tech bulletin gm 6379278 in regards to this issue so I now see on the internet and youtube many others are having the same issue. This appears to be quite the life threatening issue that can easily end badly. They talk about a solar pkg or generating package causing this problem, I have neither. The bulletin is applicable to 2024 3500's and 2500's.

Rear wheels locked up while driving/accelerating. Happened 5 times, 4 times while towing a camper once without towing. Luckily no harm or damage came to anyone. Traded in at dealership due to safety concerns after no diagnostics found anything “wrong”. It is already listed for sale, but I don’t think it’s been addressed or fixed.

Brakes and rotar issue. Within the first 8,000 miles the brake pads had to be replaced due to and excessive brake squeal. At 18,900 miles, my truck started to shimmy when I braked. Took it to the dealer who informed me that the rotar’s were warped and needed to be replaced. I have a silverado hd and drive mostly city miles. No reason the brakes are failing at this low mileage. With the faulty rotar’s my very heavy vehicle is difficult to stop putting myself and drivers in danger. The brakes shimmy every time I brake and there has been no warning lamps or messages from my truck. Gm is refusing to replace.

Brake pedal gets hard no brakes pops back up all brakes lock up and throws u forward and then works fine for a day or 2 then same thing changed hydro pump 2 brake booster one and the last time it was changed good for two days then issues with my brakes again haven’t even made first payment yet and check engine light because a glow plugs out.

Even though electronic parking brake has not been set when parking, upon leaving from parking space, electronic parking brake engages and vehicle feels and sounds as though parking brake has been applied. My concern is that parking brake may engage while driving at speed and loss of vehicle control could occur. This problem is intermittent and has occurred 6 or 7 times during the month of February 2024. Vehicle has 6500 miles on it.

The contact also stated that the brake pedal required excessive effort to slow and bring the vehicle to a complete stop. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the water pump. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000.

Hydraboost piston blew out, lost brakes and steering. Almost wrecked vehicle.

I purchased this vehicle brand new from lunghamer Chevrolet in pontiac, mi. I park my truck on a hill every day and as of around a week ago the emergency brake system won't disengage properly. I know it has been engaging since, my gas milage has decreased significantly. Then, a warning light came on the dash, so I took it to wally edgar Chevrolet in lake orion for diagnosis and they told me that the actuators and wiring harness need to be replaced. They said that there seems to be corrosion on the connector to the harness, and the actuators need to be replaced. Since, my warranty is expired they will not cover the repairs and they quoted me $2,125. I only have 48,428 miles on this vehicle! if the emergency brake is engaged, couldn't it completely stop my vehicle without warning? I drive the highway every day! isn't this a safety concern? I don't go off road, I don't abuse this truck and I keep it clean as much as possible! yes, I live in michigan but, gm has been producing vehicles for quite a long time and I cannot believe they can't keep the wiring connector from corroding. I also went online to see if there were others that have experienced this, and I found one owner of the same model that had to fix it twice! [xxx] . Inner brakes are worn down to the sensor at 35,000 miles. While the outside brakes are perfectly fine not much wear. There is a recall on the brake valve issue and bpmv same year and model of mine but my VIN does not fall under that recall. I believe there is something wrong inside my rear brake system that is causing inner brakes to be worn that low compared to the outside brakes.

I own a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd pick-up, VIN: [xxx] . I use this truck primarily to haul a heavy horse trailer and to tow a travel trailer. Ever since I bought this truck I have had a problem with the trailering application. At times it will start working (especially if it has not been used in a while??), but every time I am actively using it there is an issue: •the app will totally blank out giving me a black screen, and/or •I will get a message that my trailer brakes are disconnected. I will stop, disconnect and reconnect the brakes, turn off the engine and restart, and so on. Nothing helps. I have had my truck in to the dealer (bend Chevrolet) three times to have this repaired. Every time I get the reply that there is nothing they can do, that Chevrolet says this is a software issue and that they are working on it. I kept getting “check trailer wiring” messages followed by a “trailer disconnected” message while towing a trailer and the trailer brakes would not engage. The trailer would “reconnect” and then “disconnect” constantly while driving. I lost my trailer brakes while trying to brake down a hill. Not having working trailer brakes is extremely dangerous.

New Silverado 2500 hd lt and new keystone cougar 30bhs. My new truck is experiencing random trailer break controller disconnection while towing. This happened yesterday on the first trip bringing it home from the RV dealership to my house. The trip was 68 miles total. It happened often and without a pattern. If our trailer is plugged into the truck the warning "check trailer wiring" pops up. The warning ("check trailer wiring") would display and then the message "trailer connected" would generally happen. The trailer breaks disconnect during this time making it extremally dangerous for us and anyone else on the road if we need to stop quickly. This is not an issue with our new trailer as we pulled it with a 2017 silverado with no issues.

I would like to report a hazardous issue with the 2024 Chevrolet silverado trailer braking power mode. The trailer braking system turns on and off when the loaded trailer is connected; this represents a security hazard since this truck is used for work and we move heavy pieces of metal and glass. This issue was reported several times to the dealership lou bachrodt Chevrolet in coconut creek, FL. Also, the manufacturer provided a letter indicating the replacement of some parts. As indicated, I took the truck to lou bachrodt Chevrolet in coconut creek, FL, on [xxx] for the corresponding service; however, the truck is still presenting the same issues. We tried different trailers, including a u-haul trailer, and still had the same dysfunctionality. Please advise how to proceed. When my fifth wheel trailer is attached via the seven pin plug, the truck intermittently fails to recognize the trailer and I get a warning "check trailer wiring. " when I get that warning, the integrated trailer brake controller fails to activate the trailer brakes. After a while I get the message "trailer brakes connected" and then the trailer brake controller activates the trailer brakes. When towing my travel trailer with the 2500hd, the electronic trailer brake randomly connects and disconnects while driving. This results in the unsafe operation of the trailer because the brakes aren't functional and puts others at risk if stopping was required during the outage. Gm/chevy has created document #6379278 which admits that this is their issue but they don't seem to be providing a fix.

Brake pedal became loose became inoperable and landed on accelerator.

While pulling fifth wheel camper the the electronic brake controller looses connection and brakes on the trailer do not work leaving only the truck brakes to stop both truck and trailer. General motors claims this is caused due to the solar panel on the trailer charging the trailer battery more than the truck battery which back feeds into the system. This problem only occurred on the 2024 models. The same trailer was pulled with a 2021 model with no issues. This is a known problem which Chevrolet has a service bulletin stating such. Reference document # 6379278. At this time there has not been a fix. This is a safety hazard because there is no warning as to when the trailer brakes will stop working.

When truck is connected to a trailer with electric brakes, intermittently a check trailer wiring warning flashes on the dashboard screen. When this happens you do not have trailer brakes. It has happened on multiple trailers with 7 pin connections. I have taken it to the dealer twice with no fix other than gm recommending a non gm trailer receptacle. I have taken my trailer to the dealer and they could find no problems. Basically the 2024 Silverado 2500 hd when hooked to trailers with industry standard 7 pin 12 volt receptacle loses trailer brakes. This condition potentially is fatal and a definite hazard to public safety on roads. Problem was reproduced at the chevy dealership in pensacola FL. The problem was reproduced on multiple trailers at great american RV in defuniak springs FL.
