Chevrolet Suburban owners have reported 29 problems related to brake abs warning light (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Fuel pump may falter or fail; fuel pump relay was non-functional, replaced it; other fuses passed testing with meter; vehicle started, would not run more than a few minutes. New fuel filter. Guy at service station banged on gas tank, and it would start then run great for a minute, then will not restart. Ordering a replacement fuel pump. Bought this vehicle in 2005 about the time of gm recall 05027. In doing online trouble-shooting today, I discovered the 2001 gm recall 05027. Have had this problem several times. Fuel filter was last changed in July 2009. Complete failure when in motion, backing out of service station onto main street (us 64 bus), just inches from lane of travel (6. 14. 19). What could be worse than fuel pump failure at a busy intersection during lunch hour? grateful it didn't catch fire, or get hit. As the service attendant tried to restart it, over and over, the relay in the ecu may have failed at that time. In the interim, my husband died. I replaced relay/fuses today 9/14/19, and vehicle started, but would not stay running. Another mechanic banged on fuel tank, it ran for a while, so he advised replacing pump, which is not rocket science after viewing youtube how-to videos. With the pump failing sporadically, and responding to the vibration of being banged, it seems like faulty wiring or connection problem, or that something is loose or not fully seated anymore. Lots of folks say the chevy 1500 is widely known for fuel supply problems. Gas gauge has not been accurate ever. When full, it may show empty when turning or hitting a slight bump in the road. (track by computing mpg and mileage, to determine range). In short distances, it swings full-> empty->full. Wiring diagram shows tiny fuse labeled prime, none there. Abs indicator lights up because sensor cable at right front tire may fail on left turn, or hard right turn, yet brakes are fine.

The SUV does not stop and the abs activates when coming to a stop (approximately 5 mph). I noticed there is gm recall no. 05068 but my model is not included. That is strange because all of the SUV and pickup trucks around that time are included, my model is not. Abs light sometimes is on and sometimes not during these episodes. This safety issue happens periodically over many years with this vehicle.

When approaching an intersection the vehicle in front of me stopped quickly. I applied my breaks quickly to stop and the break pedal almost reached the floor board. I could feel my foot jumping on the pedal as my truck was attempting to stop. A week after the incident my abs light came on and has remained on and the dealership states this is an ongoing issue. I understand gm has much going on right now but they need to address and resolve all these issues before family's loose loved ones. Do the right thing gm acknowledge these numerous faulty break issues and give us the opportunity to fix our vehicle investments.

Vehicle does not want to stop when traveling at low speeds. Parking is so hard to do, that I park at least 4 spaces from other vehicles whenever possible. It feels like the abs is kicking in when it shouldn't be. No abs light comes on when this occurs. When I am traveling slowly downhill, pulling into parking spaces, stopping at red lights/stop signs, etc. The brakes will not engage properly, it feels like the pedal is pushing back at me, the brakes make a strange growling sound, and the vehicle refuses to stop. I have to pump the brakes repeatedly, and sometimes it still will not stop, sometimes it will brake very suddenly. When picking up/dropping off my kids at school, I have had several incidents that were mere inches from becoming tragedies. I have no other vehicle to carry my 4 children in, or I would stop using the vehicle. I do not feel safe in it. There is a recall for this exact issue, however my VIN is not part of it (per chevy customer service 1-800-222-1020). I have had the brake fluid checked often, I have had brake pads replaced as well, it made no difference. It has now become a regular occurrence. I am going to see if any shop nearby has dealt with this before. Please help.

The abs light came on. When the car was turned off, a pump or something kept running and the sound seemed to be coming form under the vehicle. The sound did not cease even when the car was turned off and the key removed. This continued until I checked the fuses and tried disconnecting the abs 60-amp fuse from the fuse box under the hood. The fuse was fine, however when I disconnected the fuse, the sound immediately stopped. I reconnected the fuse briefly and the sound resumed, so I left the fuse disconnected until a repair can be maid.
Began emergency breaking and evasive maneuvers. Shortly after beginning to turn, the abs light came on and all 4 wheels locked. The result was a 180 degree spin across 5 lanes of i30 just south of downtown dallas. We almost avoided any collision, but it could have been horrible as we were close to hitting at least 7 to 10 vehicles with speed differentials of about 50mph while out of control. The failure code was the ebcm relay, and the system works if the ambient temperature is cold enough, though it fails on bumps sometime. Typical bad solder joint behavior. Many people are repairing these modules by re-soldering the relay connections.
The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, the abs would activate and makes braking more difficult and stopping distance to increase. The abs warning light would illuminate on the instrument panel. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who informed the contact that he needed to replace the abs module. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
This concern has been occurring for over a year now. The abs light comes on and when you apply the brakes there is a loud noise and the vehicle does not stop right away but continues to move. On several occasions I almost hit the car in front of me. Took it to the dealer and was told the abs module is going and the price to fix it was absorbent. To me this is a safety concern that should be addressed by Chevrolet and NHTSA.
Tl-the contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph the abs light illuminated. As a result, the braking distances increased. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnose that the abs system needed to be replaced. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 125,000. Pmb.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph in reverse the brakes failed. The abs warning light illuminated while the contact applied the brakes. The vehicle was inspected by the owner when he noticed that the brake line was corroded and there was also a leak. The vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer nor had it been repaired. The failure and current mileages were approximately 93,800.
Slowing down coming to stop about 7to 4 mph the abs sensors tells the abs pump to turn on making a growling noise this is the same problem the older models had there fix was to bring them in to a dealer and pull and clean the abs sensors or replace if found bad . I took mine in for an abs sensor light on and they told me that the right sensor was bad but the left needed to be pulled and cleaned but they said if the went to pull it and it broke I would have to pay the cost of the replacement sensor instead of the cleaning cost which is about $250. 00 to replace part and labor this was in Dec 2009.
2002 chevy Suburban: grinding noise heard on undercarriage and abs light came on. Determined the abs pump was making the grinding sound and further determined an unavailable part costs about $1200 plus labor. There is a waiting list for this part a mile long. Apparently this is a common problem worthy of recall investigation. Dealers temporary solution is to unplug the abs fuse and drive it until the part comes available. We were told to be careful in the rain as it is unsafe without abs brakes. Part might be available in 2 to 4 months.
I own a 2001 chevy Suburban. Yesterday, for the 2nd time since I have owned the vehicle the abs light came on and stayed on. When I got home and turned off the ignition, a noise that sounded like a generator was running under the truck. We disconnected the abs fuses both inside the truck and the engine to make the noise stop. Called chevy dealer and was informed that a bulletin has been issued about the abs system, but no recalls. Was also informed it would be $1500 to fix. I had it replaced the first time in 2005. A mechanic has told us that the abs pumps should never go bad.
Abs light on-dealer says $1500 to repair, he said this is a very common problem and should have been recalled a long time ago. I can't afford to repair it so am now driving a car the has no abs protection.
My 2002 Chevrolet Suburban left me and my three children stranded on the side of the highway. After driving while my abs light came on, the car started pulling hard to the left and decelerated in speed. Fortunately I was able to pull over to shoulder and get out. When I looked at my tire, I saw a small fire inside the tire. My car was towed 55 miles to nearest Chevrolet dealer. I had my left front brake caliper, hub, rotor, brake hose, brake pads and resurfaced rotors. A new left front tire and $2,700 my car was able to be driven again. All the technicians that saw my car were amazed that I didn't lose the tire. They were amazed to see it hanging on by a thread. I understand that gm has several problems with their brake calipers and hub. I do not trust the right side so I am replacing that caliper as well. I do not want this to happen to anyone, especially a mom driving on a trip with her young children in the car. This is a default in he car and its brakes and I would like to have this investigated. My car had 85,500 at the time this occurred.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban. While driving approximately 15 mph, the abs warning light illuminated when the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they were unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. On a separate occasion, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for an identical failure, but they could not locate the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,000 and current mileage was 85,000.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban. While driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle began to pulsate when the brake pedal was depressed. Prior to the failure, the abs warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they could not determine the cause of the failure. On a separate occasion, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for an identical failure, but there were no resolutions. The failure mileage was 78,000 and current mileage was 85,000.
: the contact stated the abs light illuminated on the dash. The abs brakes activated at low speeds of 35-40 mph. The dealership determined the electronic brake control module and a module brake pressure valve needed to be replaced. There is an NHTSA recall, # 05v379000 regarding the service brakes, hydraulic: antilock. The VIN was not included in the recall.
Abs/brake system warning lights continue to come on and stay on. Once vehicle has been shut off and restarted, lights don't come on until after a period of driving. Had brake system checked and everything checked ok.
While slowing down the abs brakes do not hold. The vehicle will not stop even if pumping the brakes. This happens when going 10 mph or slower. No abs warning light comes on. The consume r found out that the same vehicle was being recalled in canada for the same problem. Dealer asked him about the abs light coming on, and told him to bring vehicle in next week. He contacted the manufacturer and filed a complaint. Rotors and pads were replaced 8 months ago. The caller thought the dealer should have checked the abs system when replacing the rotors and pads. He has had only one close call, and was very careful when he driving. The caller stated that t every third time he hit the brakes they failed.
2002 Suburban wheel speed sensor fault.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The contact stated that the abs was engaging prematurely. While attempting to park the vehicle at 5 mph, the contact attempted to depress the brake pedal, but the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle crashed into the wall of his garage. The dealer repaired the front hubs and abs sensors for free and the contact was reimbursed for the damages made to his garage doors. Shortly after the repairs were made, the manufacturer issued a recall on the same defect he experienced. The contact stated that the failure recurred at 87,000 miles. The abs light illuminated and the vehicle failed to come to a complete stop until a few seconds after the brake pedal was depressed. He called the manufacturer to notify them of the failure, but they were not willing to authorize the repair of the abs for free. The VIN and recall number were unknown. The failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 87,000.
Brake pedal goes down or gets spongey at slow stopping speeds under 5 mph. It feels like an abs event is occuring! no abs light comes on. Incident occurs at nearly every stop. Stopping distance is longer. It feels like the vehicle is not going to stop. It is not a safe secure feeling when coming to a stop. I have hear (on the radio) that this is probabley the same kind of problem occuring as occuring on 1999 to 1005 vehicles. I believe my vehilce should be included in the repair.

My abs and brake system lights turn on and off simultaneously and intermittenly, sometimes staying on for the duration of the trip and other times never coming on at all. I have had the brakes checked and replaced, however this did not fix the problem. I'm getting real tired of my 2001 chevy Suburban having problems that are more related to sensors then actual mechanical problems. Often the fixes for these problems are costly and of course, they all occur after the warranty. I have experienced the fuel sensor problem since 56,000 and I'm currently at 93000 miles. Unfortunately, I have to wait till November to get it fixed under the latest recall. Can you please check if there are others facing the same brake system/abs problem? when is chevy going to get their act together?.
Owner was backing out of the driveway and the abs light came on. It locked up the wheels, and the vehicle would not move. Owner had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and was informed of the existing problem, and that this vehicle was the sixth vehicle of its kind to encounter this defect.
The vehicle has ongoing abs problems. The abs system kicks on almost instantly after driving the vehicle and then shuts down and the abs warning light comes on. The vehicle has been serviced 13 times for the problem and various sensors were replaced but the problem was not fixed. The front pads only last about 8 months before they have to be replaced and the rotors have been turned twice because of warping. The vehicle pulls sharply to one side when the brakes are applied. The rear axle seals, rear transmission seal, fuel pump, and ac compressor all had to be replaced. The brake problem is my greatest concern however. This problem has not been resolved and now my extended warranty has expired and the local dealer that serviced the vehicle (billy navarre Chevrolet in lake charles la) said they can not fix the problem.
Loss of abs brakes , resulting in a rearend collision. Brakes went floor, abs light had come on after incident. Dealer has replaced brake soes and pads.
