1 Brake Drum problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/30/2000

The emergency brakes on the car will not hold on even a slight grade. They have been adjusted multiple times, and recently I authorized re-lining the emergency brakes. I was told only one side was worn the other was like new, I have been told by the technicians that the design if faulty. Only the automatic transmission park setting keeps my car from rolling down the hill. I'm not sure if this is a safety issue that would be addressed by nhtsb, but I wanted to log the complaint. Dt.

3 Brake Drum problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/01/1998

The braking system in this car is totally inadequate to provide safe braking. Far too much pressure is required to reach maximum braking. Chevrolet service techinicans say the problem is that the rear brakes often lose tension and hte vehicle becomes totally reliant on only the front brakes to stop. This is exceptionally dangerous. The car has been in for service on the brakes at least a half dozen times, with temporary results. Chevrolet technicians say the brakes are the most commonly complained about feature of this car. The 2000 model year has a totally redesigned and more effective rear disc system. The models equipped with ineffective rear drums should have a required rear disc retrofit or other permanent solution.
