I have a 1997 chevy Suburban with a 7. 4 engine. For the most part its been a good vehicle, but the brakes are another story. The Suburban has been through 2 sets of front brakes, and none in the rear. Being concerned, the 3rd mechanic to really spend time figuring out the problem, found out the brake pressure modulator valve has malfunctioned. $800 for replacement. Doing a little research, gm had recalled this part on several of there 2000 SUV models. Contacted the gm customer service line, and they told me that it is an "old vehicle" and gm will not do anything about it. So I guess gm's safety systems are only good for 10 years. This will be my last gm vehicle I will ever own.

I am experiencing the same problem listed on the recall for abs on my truck. The abs is kicking in at unwanted times and takes forever to stop. I called the dealership about the recall and mine is not in the recall even though I am experiencing the same problems. Why is this model year not included in the recall? what do we need to do to add this model to the recall list? when you are stopping, you can hear the abs kicking in and then you begin to slide. I ended up going through a stop sign at the end of our street and fortunately there was no accident but who knows about the next time. What can we do?.

60 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/04/2005

General motors recently announced an SUV/truck recall for defective and unsafe anti-lock brake systems. The recall went into effect in 14 cold-weather states and canada. . . But it excluded wisconsin!!!! it did so because gm said it didn't have enough complaints from wisconsin. That's ludicrous! many here had the same problems as in iowa, michigan, and all the rest. I experienced the problem, took my 2001 Suburban to my gm dealer for repairs, and was told I'd be reimbursed subject to the recall. Then the wisconsin exclusion was announced. Many people here will be operating unsafe vehicles. . . And that's not right! please help. Mark & sharon leider.

61 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/01/2005

Honorable senators & congressmen: we seek your investigation and protest over general motors' outrageous decision to exclude wisconsin from its recent truck/SUV anti-lock braking system recall. Some 14 "cold weather" states (plus canada) were covered, including all bordering wisconsin---but not wisconsin! our 2001 vehicle experienced the anti-lock problem. Our gm dealer simply did the repairs, and stated that we'd be reimbursed after the recall went into effect. Thus, we had no need to file any formal complaint. Now gm states that wisconsin was excluded because it had not received sufficient complaints! gr-r-r-r!! this must not stand. We have also requested assistance from the national highway traffic safety administration. We would also appreciate your assistance. Warm regards, mark & sharon leider 1319 woodview avenue sheboygan, WI 53081 leiders@charter. Net.

64 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/23/2005

When coming to a stop sign brake pedal went to the floor and it felt like abs engaged even though the pavement was bone dry. This has happened to me before, but the mechanic could not find the cause of the problem. Then, I noticed that there was a recall for this situation. So I went to an Chevrolet dealership, thorstad Chevrolet, madison, wisconsin and they said that they couldn't fix the problem until November, when the kits are mailed out. Also, I learned today that the recall is not for wisconsin because it is not considered a rust belt state. How can they not fix vehicles that are defective. What do you think they put on the roads in wisconsin to keep ice from forming? salt is the answer.
