39 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/04/2015

Brakes failed under hard stop (highway, in motion). Intermediate steel brake line failed to rear brakes in a mode of rupture due to corrosion. All other steel lines were corroded and contacted gm. 2 other silverado line vehicles owned also failed this year due to corrosion. Gm response was that no recall existed. Replaced all steel brake lines in vehicle with stainless aftermarket lines. After multiple contacts with gm customer service, I was told to save my receipts for repairs. This is an incorrect material specification, latent defect and gm needs to be held accountable. Saved brake lines from this vehicle for any potential use. 3 vehicles that I own with the same repair in 8 months. Inexcusable!.

40 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000. Jo.

41 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/30/2015

Corrosion of hard brake line at driver / left side rear, partly hidden from view. Not seen during inspections. Condition discovered following surface roadway incident. Vehicle was stationary, in drive, pointed downhill at stoplight. Brake pedal slowly started going down. Pumping brake helped a bit, but soon the pedal started falling again and the vehicle started moving forward. Putting vehicle in park prevented vehicle from striking stopped vehicles in front. Got off the roadway shortly thereafter and discovered the corrosion and lead mentioned above. Vehicle is currently in repair shop with $1800 service bill. Body is required to be lifted off frame for replacement lines to be installed and that is *very* labor intensive. Researched online and found NHTSA has investigated these vehicles during their production run of 1999-2006 on c/k/suburban/tahoe models. Vehicle was purchased in washington state, where salt is not used on roadways.

42 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/29/2015

I was driving my 2000 Suburban at 60 mph on the highway on September 29,2015 when I needed to brake for traffic. The brake started to stop but then went all the way to the floor. I had no brakes and had to go into the ditch in order to prevent a serious collision. There was a main brake line failure. I have contacted Chevrolet about the failure but they have yet taken any responsibility for the poor design. This issue is very well documented all over the internet for rust failure on brakelines on this vehicle and yet Chevrolet has yet to notify anyone of the possibility of complete brake failure and more importantly, done anything to correct the problem. This needs to be addressed before anyone is killed. I was driving with my 18 month old granddaughter at the time. If I had not acted quickly, the outcome could have been devastating.

44 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/15/2015

Brakes do not catch every time. Had them replaced but still have issues where it seems that when your pressing them to slow or stop it takes them a while to catch. Saw where earlier models had brake line issues.

45 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/13/2015

Driving in close traffic (bumper to bumper) uphill on two lane bridge, brake pedal just went to the floor, and no brakes! frantically, I worked the emergency brake to the top of the bridge. Going down the bridge I coasted (no area to pull off), once off the bridge and safe to pull over I did so. Nothing appeared wrong, so I tried the brakes a number of times, and decided I could make the . 5 mile rest of way home. Once there, I found fluid level down over half way. After searching found hard bake line had holds in it. After searching my brake lines, they appear to all be rusted badly. In all the vehicles I've owned, I've never had brake lines fail like this. In searching the web sites I find that chevy may have used inferior metals for their brake lines during this time frame. If this is true, why have they not taken care of correcting this issue? thanks, concerned.

46 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/14/2015

I was driving down a two lane highway at 50 miles per hour a dog ran out in front of my SUV, I hit the brakes hard and noticed the pedal went to the ground. Drove the car home carefully. When I got it in the garage found rusted through brake lines going to the rear of the car leaking. There is excessive rust on the lines and an electrical harness that goes to the gas tank has rubbed a hole in the line.

47 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

Brakes failed due to corroded brake lines. Appears that rear lines failed but neither front or rear brakes worked during incident. Brake lines are very rusty whereas there is almost no rust on other components.

48 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/31/2015

While attempting to stop the brake pedal went to the floor I had drive to the shoulder of the road to keep from hitting the car ahead of me. The right front steel hydraulic brake line failed due to rust.

52 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/24/2015

The brake line from the front to rear rusted and ruptured resulting in virtually no braking. Upon further inspection the brake lines are all badly rusted and in need of replacement. Very unfortunate gm chose to use such an inferior material for such an important component. Very dangerous situation gm should be making owners aware of.

53 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/19/2015

My brakes failed on an interstate highway in sw ohio in traffic. I avoided an accident by changing lanes abruptly and coasting to a stop on the side of the road. The repair facility indicated that it was the result of a rusted brake line that failed. The repairs cost me $1300 plus the cost of a rental car while the car was repaired. I understood from the feedback of the repair facility that gm is aware or this defect but has not elevated it to a "recall". It is considered to be a "campaign". I was not informed by anyone, including a dealership/ the car is low mileage, but I do live in the ne where the car has been exposed to chemicals on the road. I had the car at a dealership not more than 2 weeks ago for an air conditioning repair. This issue was not reported to me at that time.

A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

55 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/06/2015

While driving around town I noticed my brakes feeling mushy and the pedal needing to be pressed further into the floorboard. My "check brake system" light came on and upon inspection noticed that I was low on brake fluid. I filled the brake fluid reservoir to the max line. The next day the same warning light came on and I further inspected the brake lines to find that the lines from the abs box to the rear had rusted out and were leaking badly.

56 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/28/2015

I was driving to pick my son up from school when I lost brakes. We barely avoided an accident and had to swerve off the road to avoid the vehicle in front of us stopping at the light. I had just redone my front and rear brakes/rogers. After inspecting the brake lines we noticed my lines are completely rusted and will not hold any fluid. I live in florida. No snow, no salt on my roads. It disgusts me that gm isn't taking care of this known issue. This is my 4th Suburban and will be my last. I will now be looking toward the Ford, Toyota, or Nissan SUV. Gm should be making this right. Maybe after a few more deaths they'll see how serious this is. How many deaths do they need on their hands to see it's a problem? absolutely disgusts me!.

57 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/19/2015

Went to back out of the driveway, brake pedal went to the floor, no brakes had to take extreme steps to stop the vehicle and all I was doing was backing out of a flat driveway onto the street. Towed vehicle to auto shop - brake lines before safety valve broke causing the entire braking system to fail. Previously I had a brake line burst, however it was post the safety valve which allowed me to stop safely. The lines busting before the safety valve is extremely dangerous and would have resulted in severe injuries had we been driving down the road at normal driving speeds. Gm has an issue and prior to this I was not happy with them saying it isn't an issue, now that it broke in a place that does not have any safety mechanism I consider it extremely poor of gm to cover their face and say there isn't an issue.

58 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/11/2015

Driving on interstate and was slowing down to exit onto off-ramp. Brakes went to floor. Was able to coast and use emergency brake to stop vehicle. After getting the vehicle home, found the right back metal brake line was leaking with a hole in it and was rusted. Never had a brake line rust and go bad in 60 years. I saw there is a investigation with the chevy brake lines corroding.

59 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/04/2015

I was traveling around 40mph on a local road on my way from dropping the kids off at school. I tried to slow down to turn onto my street, and the Suburban brakes did not respond at all. Thankfully, there was nobody ahead of me, and I slowed the truck gradually. I then idled back home, without any functionality in my brakes. Upon inspection, we discovered the brake lines had ruptured. All maintenance is and had been up to date.

Coming up to a stop light I noticed I needed to push brake peddle farther down to stop. The same for each stop after that. I knew that another brake line had failed. I had two replace under hood about a year ago. This one is over frame midway back.

61 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

Was traveling in city down a slight hill when the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and the service brake system warnings went on and sounded. Immediately shifted vehicle into a low gear and pumped brakes. Was able to bring vehicle to a stop off the road. Upon examination it was obvious there had been a catastrophic brake line failure as brake fluid was all on the ground and covering the spare tire. Repair shop confirmed this was due to rusting of the brake lines.

62 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/04/2014

Catastrophic brake failure; brake pedal went to the floor with very little stopping power left to the vehicle. Mechanic has advised that all of the brake lines require replacement.

Failure Date: 12/03/2014

Went to stop when traffic stop and felt the brake pedal go to the floor with very little braking power to stop. Had to swerve to miss the car in front. I limped home with very little braking power and when I got home I check the oil resevole, it had almost no oil. Looked under the truck and found a leaking brake line. The line was rusted out.

65 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/23/2014

I was coming upon an intersection with my 2000 chevy Suburban when the brakes were feeling spongy to me. I decided to apply hard pressure to the brake pedal to see if it would stop in a hurry if I needed it to. As I did this, the brake pedal began to slow the vehicle but then went straight to the floor. No brakes! I was able to get the vehicle to a stop by pumping them but luckily I wasn't traveling very fast and was able to get the Suburban under control. Thank god my wife and 4 young children weren't in the vehicle when this happened. The rear brake line had ruptured due to rust and corrosion. I did a google search on this and noticed in July of 2014, this exact problem was brought to gm as a potential recall but gm's reply was that it's normal wear and tear. It almost cost me my life! please advise gm of this in the hopes of saving further lives in the future.

66 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

69 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/09/2014

We bought our chevy Suburban in may of 2014, 73,000 miles, garage kept vehicle. The Suburban is in beautiful shape, engine compartment shows very little signs of rust or corrosion, same goes for the underside of the vehicle, very clean. This past weekend while traveling down a large hill, my wife had our two boys with her in the vehicle ages 5 and 7 when all of a sudden the brakes gave out completely, no braking power at all. If it wasn't for the emergency brake they would have been seriously hurt or worse. Upon inspection of the vehicle we found that the brake lines are completely rotted, the only part on the vehicle that looks like this. We know who owned the vehicle before us, one owner, and she did not drive this vehicle very often in winter weather. She works for a school district and has off when it snows. She also had an older car that she drove when the weather and roads were bad. These brake lines are faulty. There is no way these brake lines should look like this after 9 years on the road. My neighbor has a 2005 yukon and has the same problem. My friend steve has a 2003 GMC pickup, same problem, he almost crashed into a lake when his brake lines failed. Something needs to be done about this and fast as people are going to get killed. I have pictures I can share with anyone who wants to see them. You can also contact me at any time.
