While driving on highway, experienced severe vibration x 3 times. Tires have been computer balanced last Thursday and I took Suburban in for a check today after severe front end vibration while driving on highway at 70mph. I could not reproduce the vibration with the service forman in the car. The front end vibration has stopped now without any further adjustment from service department. I thought you would want to know about this situation since it is a firestone tire that had previously been recalled last year. My tires do not have the recalled serial numbers on it. I am very pleased with terry cullen cheverolet service. But concerned about the vibration if it returns again. Could this be a normal process for these tires?.

Tire became separated and damaged vehicle. Mr.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
This tire was making a noise and pulling to the right while driving on July 20, 2002. I went to get a front end alignment due to the pulling, and was told my alignment was okay, but the problem was my right front tire, that the tread was separating inside. As a result I replaced all four firestone tires with goodyear tires. A friend had a slightly smaller firestone steeltex tire actually separate this summer while on a trip. I have kept the tire from my Suburban and it is available for inspection.
We were driving straight at 70 mph on I-35; all tires were properly inflated; there were no obstructions or debris in the roadway; without warning, the left rear tire came apart. The tread came off of the tire, wrapped around the axle while the wheel kept turning. From what I've read on your site, this appears to be exactly the same as the firestone/explorer problems.

Two of the original tires failed at under 10,000 miles. I was afraid to drive on the other two and was forced to buy 4 new tires at a cost of $462. 00. I believe Chevrolet installs inferior tires on this heavy vehicle. I havae never had tires fail at under 10,000 miles. I would expect compensation of $462. 00 . If you want further info you may contact me at 602-678-1825. Thank you. (dot number: ? tiresize: 24575r16).

While driving with my 3 children and preagnant wife we experienced a total failure of the left rear tire. I was traveling about 80mph, I heard a repeating thud which sounded like the thud produced when driving over expansion joints, however, I noticed it was louder than typical and didn't coincide with expenation joint timing. I took my foot off the gas and began to slow down by coasting. All this transpired in about 4 to 10 seconds. Then bang, we hear a loud noise, and our vehicle rear drops. I looked behind me and I see tread and peices of tire flying everywhere. I coasted for a few seconds, not wanting to upset the balance of the vehicle and then gently applied the brakes. We stopped. The only thing left on the rim were the two side walls. There wasn't any tread left. I have since retrived the tread. The tread is separated from the carcus of the tire. I assume this is the repeating thud sound I heard. Then the tire carcus and tread ripped completely from the side walls. My rim is scratched and dented. Gm says this cost $480. Tire is obviously gone. About 2,000 miles earlier I had firestone, check, and rotate tires on the vehicle and after the incident I checked the other tires and tire pressures where 35psi +or - 2psi. Upon examination of the tread that came off tire it can be seen that there is a puncture which looks like a nail or screw penetrated the tire. My gm dealership is saying that this caused the tire pressue to go down and I drove on it so it got hot and this caused the faulure. I believe that the tire may have lost some pressure, but I think it was probably a slow leak. My wife and I didn't notice a low tire by the way the vehicle was handling. It is my belief that the low pressure may have precipitated the tire failure, but the tire was defective because it shouldn't have failed so catastophically with only a minor tire pressure loss. If the tire would have been almost flat, then we would not have felt the vehicle drop.
With no prior warning, the consumer experienced a blowout on the left front tire. Which was witnessed by occupants of a second company vehicle, in which they saw the explosive failure and seperation of the firestone tire. (firstone steeltex radial lt245-75r16).
There are small hunks of tread missing on the two front tires in different places.
Catastrophic failure of a firestone steel tex lt245/75r16, the tire tread separated and completely delaminated, causing a blowout, significant damage was done to the right rear of the vehicle, including rupture of some fluid line which could cause a fire.
I purchased this Suburban used from valencia Nissan with 23,000 miles on it. They stated the tires were new at that time. On the indicated date, I was towing a travel trailer on the freeway at 60mph, the truck started to rattle then the left rear tire exploded. I safely stopped on the shoulder. I had my wife, 4yr old & 2yr old in the vehicle with me. After inspecting the tire, the tread completely separated from the tire in the same fashion that the recalled firestone tires did. I wanted to know if this set of tires was also under recall. I would like if you could call me regarding this matter. Thank you. (dot number: v611b1a tiresize: 245/75r16).
This is the 2nd one of these tires on my Suburban that the tread had separated. The 1st one was on 8/26/2000 and was unable to get another e rated tire from dealer. I had to take a c rated tire for a spare. I intend to replace the remaing tires with a different brand before I kill someone in my family. These tires are defective and firestone will only "adjust" them. Please help! la burke. (tiresize: 245/75 16)( dot number: tire size: 245/75 16 ).

Was driving 35mph when vehicle started to vibrate. Problem was getting worse. Took vehicle to dealership. Mechanic tried rebalancing all four tires to remove vibrations. Vibration problem still exists. Original equipment on 1999, Chevrolet, Suburban with 33,000 miles. Lt245/78r16. The consumer bought 5 new tires and replaced the ones that were unsafe.
I had two tire separation failures in two weeks. Please contact me. (dot number: v672wl2 tiresize: p265/70r16).

I was on vaction with my family driving on mountainous roads in northern arizona at approximately 55 mph. I began to feel a vibration in the steering wheel and noticed the console shaking. I slowed the Suburban down to 15 mph and I could feel the rear end wobble. I took the vehicle to the nearest tire store and the informed me that the tire had separated and was on the verge of loosing its tread. I very carefullly drove to the nearest firestone dealer and had to pay a prorated price for a new tire since this particular tire had not been offically recalled. I am concerned that there are other firestone models with tire separation issues and I am fortunate that I caught my tire problem before a complete loss of tread occured at 55 mph with my entire family in the vehicle. The 10/2/00 wsj article indicated now firestone steeltex tires were under investigation. Our steeltex r4s 16 tires appear to be wearing excessively. Further, the drivers side rear tire appears to be wearing excessively and unevenly. This evening, I have e-mailed firestone seeking a replacement refund offer similar to the atx recall, as soon as possible. I will let you know their response. With this being my wife's car and with three small children, 12, 10 and 6, I am very concerned. What else should I do at this time? (tiresize: 16)( dot number: tire size: 16 ).
The vehical was a "buy back" the original complaint listed was vibration in front. Chevrolet claims the issue was fixed or not varified. When I brought the vehical in for service the service representitive noticed uneven wear and recommended an allignment. He noticed severe cupping psngr side front tire. The tires were rotated and an alignment was performed. I have noticed a signifigant pull in the vehical to the left against the slope of the road. I am concerned these tires because of the similarity in my experiences and many of the reports I have read on internet. Please keep me posted your investigation into these tires. I am seriously contemplating having them replaced even w/o recall and would simply hang onto them in case of recall. Firestone dealer was not supportive or empathetic my concerns. I could not find dot code but tire were made in canada the # that was on them was 235 45 vr bm05327-1. (dot number:, tiresize: 245-75-16).
Saturday, 30 September, my wife and I began a trip, tucson to yuma, in a newly acquired '96 Suburban 2500. Earlier that morning I had been reading some of the news that had been posted on the internet and had come across another in the never ending stories of the woes of firestone (tires). The (bad) news had spilled over from the Ford applications to reference firestone's steeltex r4s and at model tires. . . That come as standard equipment on, of all things, the Chevrolet Suburban! I walked out to the garage and looked at the tires that were installed on the "new" '96 and found that the vehicle had like now r4s types installed on all four corners! "nah, it can't be" I said to myself. I had read further, on the internet, the response of firestone to the new allegations was firestone believed that the safety board/gurus were only beginning their investigation and that there was no indication that any real problems were associated with the r4s and at model tires. With renewed confidence in firestone (reinforced by their published statement) we started our trip to yuma. Seventeen (17) miles into the trip, travelling at 75 mph (which is legal speed limit in this neck of the woods), things got real exciting. The driver's side rear started to "thump" the tire came apart, and control became "dicey". We were in the leftmost lane of the interstate with automobiles to our right side and behind us. I got the Suburban to slow enough, without using brakes, to enter the median safely and review "the damage". A highway patrolman (state trooper) pulled in along side to see if we were ok and offer some assistance. He seemed to think that we were lucky not to have really taken a tumble or rolled the vehicle. An average driver would have lost it. We returned to tucson and immediately replaced all five (5) firestone tires. (dot number: v611b1a378 tiresize: lt24575r16).

These tires did not last one year. Odometer reading 30249 when tires new. I changed the tires at odometer reading 59126 miles. The tires are rated for 50,ooo. I had the tires rotated before I took a trip to kansas city this past summer in may. I was told by the owner of the goodyear service center in beaumont texas that the reason for the tire failure was under inflation. The tire manufacturer recommends one inflation and the auto manufacturer recommends another. I asked the goodyear service manager if goodyear had this in writing he said no. I beleive I got ripped off! the two times I had my vehicles tires balance I was not told that at the goodyear dealerships that they were under inflated. I would not purchase another goodyear tire even though the company I work for has them as a customer butadiene customer. I went to another company and got tires for my vehicle and met a goodyear employee and the beaumont texas facility that told me he had the same problem and even though he worked for goodyear plant he would not purchased their tires. He also by here say told me that a retired gentleman at the firestone facility in illonois plant told him that they made tires with other tire company names. I would like to know if this is true. I have four children and a sick wife and I can't afford to be duped by conglomerate tire manufactures. If I have been wronged as I feel I think the american public sould be protected against such practices. (tiresize: 235/75r1c)( dot number: tire size: 235/75r1c ).

Tire failure - tire separating. ( dot number: ).
On Sunday, may 14, 2000, I was traveling south on interstate 95 in my 1996 Chevrolet Suburban. Approximately midway through connecticut the right rear tire came apart causing damage to wheel, brake lines, heater hoses and heater core for rear heater. I did not hit anything nor did I notice any problems prior to this incident. These tires were purchased new in January 2000 with 39441 miles on the odometer. The approximate milage when the incident occured was 46500. I was told by firestone's legal office that the reason was my driving for an unknown period of time with low tire pressure. I checked the tire pressure prior to leaving a relatives house that morning as well as visually checking them at lunch. The incident occured at approx. 2:00pm. I also religiously check the tire pressure weekly. At no time did I find a tire low. ( dot number: tire size: lt245/75r1 ).
