1995 Chevrolet Suburban, consumer writes in regard to windshield wiper motor failure.

The contact owns a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban. The windshield wipers function intermittently when activated. Usually when she restarts the vehicle, the wipers will begin to function, but fail shortly after operation. She had not taken the vehicle to the dealership or spoken with the manufacturer to-date. The current mileage was approximately 80,000. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.

The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that the windshield wiper motor would intermittently function when in activation; and over a period of time the failure became progressively worse. The vehicle was repaired. Nhtsa recall campaign id number 03v159000 (visibility: windshield wiper/washer) was associated with the failure. The dealer and manufacturer were notified and stated that the recall was closed. They also stated that the vehicle would not have qualified due to the model year, excessive mileage; and because the vehicle was purchased used. The contact disagreed with the manufacturer and the dealer and stated that the recall summary did not mention those factors as a requirement. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that the delay feature on the windshield wipers worked sporadically. She received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign id number 03v159000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer) and gm recall number 03023 in February of 2002. The recall work was performed; however, the failure still persists. The contact wanted to notify NHTSA, before notifying the dealer and manufacturer. The VIN, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown. The current mileage was 220,000 and failure mileage was 219,990.

The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban. While driving at an unknown speed in the rain, the windshield wipers would not activate. The contact took her vehicle to the dealer and they stated that her vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03v159000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer). A complaint with the manufacturer was filed. The current mileage was 130,000 and failure mileage was 125,000.

Speed variation, and sometimes cease, of operation of windshield wipers. Possible discrepancy with turn signal lever, seems to be affected by, and sometimes corrected with wiggling with the lever.

The windshield wipers stopped operating without warning while I was driving my 1998 Chevrolet Suburban c1500. They have been parking incorrectly, but had not previously failed to operate. The next day they worked again.

Windshield wipers quit at various times. Sometimes work sometimes not, sometimes quit in middle of use.

The windshield wiper motor failed and the windshield wipers quit working while engaged. The manufacturer is charging the consumer for the windshield wiper motor recall 03v159000 because their records indicated that the recall was closed out in 98. This recall was issued in 2003. The dealership inspected the vehicle and verified that the defect recall part was never replaced and replaced it. . . This work was completed in 1998.

Windshield wiper fluid reservoir has been replaced twice, and at the time of this complaint, it has been discovered that the plastic tank has cracked, and is leaking for the third time.

The consumer stated the windshield wipers failed intermittenly. Please provide additional information.

There was recall issued June 19, 2003 for our vehicle 1997 Chevrolet Suburban, gm recall no. 03023 for the windshield wiper/washer. We were not notified of this recall and had our wipers fail on us during a trip on a highway that is known for its accidents. We immediately pulled over and eventually got them to work again. We took our vehicle to our mechanic that very same night. He informed us of the recall. When contacting Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 we were first told that the previous owner already had the wipers fixed on this recall, that is impossible because we owned the vehicle when the notification of the recall was released. We were then put on hold for a long time then told that the recall is only valid if your vehicle had 70,000 or less miles. This recall was issued because of a potential visibility problem. How is mileage related to visibility? I understand that there is a age requirement for the corrective action and we fall into the range, out vehicle was 6 years at the recall date. How do I get Chevrolet to correct the problem. Your campaing id number is 03v159000.

The problem is something to do with the windshield wiper motor or something. At first they would stop just anywhere, and I would have to get out and move them back and forth to start them again, then when I would turn them off, they wouldn't turn off. This happened again and again, them going out at assorted times. Finally, now they make a grinding sound but will not come on at all.

Windshield wipers quit working while driving in a rain storm. Windshield wipers stuck in the up right position. This reduced driver's visibility, almost resulting in an accident. Consumer pulled of the road and waited until the rain stopped. The relay switch or mechanism is mounted on the firewall broke due to the heat, which caused the failure.

Windshield wipers failed in middle of downpour. Had to pull onto shoulder of road. Have not had them inspected yet.

While driving in inclement weather, the windshield wipers would come on and go off on their own intermittently. The dealer was aware of the problem, and the mechanic informed the consumer that this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.

While driving in a rainstorm, the windshield wipers failed intermittently. The windshield wipers were replaced under a recall, however the problem recurred.

The consumer was having the same problems as recall#03v159000 windshield wipers. The dealership would not repair free of charge, because the VIN was not included.

Turned windshield wipers on during heavy rain as I was driving down interstate . Windshield wipers stopped working in middle of windshield. My driving was impaired,so I pulled over to side of road. I then moved the wipers with my hand. They started to work,but stopped again. This also happens to my other vehicle.

In heavy rain, windshield washers failed completely with no warning. Humming in the motor but the wipers would not work. Extremely hazardous condition. Could not see road nor oncoming traffic.

Recall 03v159 000 concerning windshield wiper motor: windshield wipers worked intermittently or not at all during inclement weather. The consumer stated the vehicle was repaired for the recall back in 1999. The consumer stated that the problem still exists and the wipers only work sometimes.

My vehicle was fitted with the fix for intermittent windshield wipers. The fix was warranted for twelve months or 12kmiles. Nine months later, on top of a mountain in colorado, with a blizzard blowing, the w/w decided to stop working, I stopped the vehicle and beat on the w/w with a water bottle and they started working again. Neither Chevrolet or my chev. Dealer will replace the defective module because the fault occurred at 12k miles.

Intermittently when the windshield wipers were engaged they malfunctioned. Windshield wipersz will either not work, quit working while engaged, or engage in the faster speed. Dealership replaced the circuit board,the wiper motor, and the tap washer.

1998 Suburban 2500 4x4 wipers do not work all the time. For some reason they almost never work in the rain.

Previous recall only covered vehicles manufactured until 05/96. Mine was manufactured 06/96 and dealer (dadeland Chevrolet) will not accept recall repair. Windshield wiper failure is intermittent, just as in existing recall for vehicle a few weeks older than mine.

Windshield wipers would fail to turn on, pause, or stop while driving at any speed. Sometime turning off/on would solve problem other time would require manually moving the wipe arms. At the last resort stop open hood and tap on wiper motor housing next to wirring harness would cause the wipers to resume working. But you could not ever be sure when they would stop again, 60 sec. , 2 min. , or work for the rest of the rain storm.

Windshield wipers work intermittently, the consumer wipers are experiencing symptoms of recall 98v-150001 yet the vehicle is not included due to VIN.
