Consumer owens a 1999, Chevrolet Suburban. The windshield wiper motor module needed replacement. Windshield wipers will work off and on while driving. When turning them in the on position while going 60 mph the windshield wipers quit on 7-10-2005. The dealership replaced the windshield wiper pulse module at consumer's expense because it was bad. Consumer knew that there was a recall on all models from the mid 1990s through 1997. There were no other known problems with the vehicle at this time. As of now the consumer has not contacted the manufacturer. The dealership that worked on the vehicle was not the same as the one where vehicle was purchased.
1999 Chevrolet Suburban, the problem is with the windshield wiper module. While driving in a rain storm the windshield wipers stopped working. Pulled over, played around with the switch, and the windshield wipers operated. The car was in the repair shop for general service work and when the windshield wipers didn't work. Consumer told the mechanic, and he opened the hood, and hit the module and windshield wipers started to work. Also mechanic told consumer that there was manufacturer's recall 98043 on this vehicle. Consumer took the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer, and they told him that there was no recall on this vehicle. After pressing the dealer he admitted there was a recalls on other VIN. Mechanic and service manager stated that they had done many of these recall repairs.
Windshield wipers work intermittently and occasionally fail. Dangerous during rainstorms. This 1997 Suburban VIN# 1gngk16f7vj326221 does not show up on recall NHTSA campaign # 03v159000.
Nhtsa complaint # 03v159000 - Chevrolet has recalled certian vehicles with an intermittent windshiel wiper problem. My 1997 2wd Suburban is not ncluded. 1996 all Suburbans are and 1997 4wd Suburbans are. I have the same symptoms as the 1996 and 1997 4wd.
While traveling in a severe rainstorm the windshield wipers stopped working intermittent and subsequently they stopped working completely. The contact wiggled the wires where the wires plug into the wiper motor. The windshield wipers began to work but later on they quit again. The contact found a plastic tie to place on the wiring harness to hold tight against the motor which allowed the windshield wipers to work. This corrected the problem at this time. The consumer received a recall letter on a separate vehicle, but not on the other vehicle which has this problem. The vehicle was excluded due to the VIN and the model, but this vehicle was experiencing the same symptoms as indicated in the recall. The recall involved the windshield wiper motor. No further corrections or repairs at this time.
While driving in the rain the windshield wipers would come on and off on their own. Driver took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that windshield wiper motor needed to be replaced. Driver informed the mechanic that recall 03v159000 for the windshield wiper motor was issued. Mechanic claimed that this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.
(1) driving in rain. (2) wiper failure. Consequences are obvious!
(3) stop, open hood of vehicle, and smack the wiper control!
note! due to fact that a friend of mine has a 1996 GMC sierra truck which was recalled for this problem, I refuse to pay hundreds of dollars to have it fixed! my vehicle is a 1998 (ordered in 1997 before they hit the production line) Chevrolet Suburban. The problem is bad solder joints on the board! I am an eet by degree for 25 years and I know the problem well and I also know that the problem with my friend's truck and mine are the same problem!
I got absolutely no help from Chevrolet customer representatives! they acknowledged that it was indeed the same wiper control and could not explain why the recall cutoff stopped when it did! but, they also would not give me a guarantee that I would not be charged to have it fixed!
if I have an accident due to this failure, GMC will pay that bloody money!.

Nhtsa recall 03v159000 concerning windshield wiper motor. After having the windshield wiper motor circuit board and cover replaced the windshield wipers failed.
Driver reported intermittent loss of windshield wipers, primarily during summer months while trying to clean windshield. Oct 2004, first big rain of the season and wipers are intermittent again. Loss of wipers while heavy downpour on freeway lead to near serious accident. 0/19/04 - spoke with Chevrolet customer assistance. They report no recall for this year (1999, sold in 6/1998) and not service bulletin. A look on the internet found many complaints for the same year. Arranging to have service done; will keep old defective part (motor?). I doubt this is an isolated situation given the occurance of failures acknowledge via the existing recalls, and the qty of complaints received.
Unexpected windshield wiper motor failure at 60 mph on interstate. Able to manuever to shoulder without incident. Car is parked. Looking for answers and solution.
Problem with windshield wipers. I have had a continual problem with the wipers and have read in several places that there had been a recall on Chevrolet Suburbans prior to model years 1999. This is an intermitent problem sometimes they work, sometimes they won't go off at all (they keep running) sometimes when I try to use the wiper washer they continue to go and usually stop in the middle of the windshield.
While driving in inclement weather windshield wipers came on and off on their own. Dealer was aware this was an intermittent problem. Driver informed the mechanic this problem occurred and will remain.

I received a recall notice for a faulty windshield wiper motor on my 1998 Suburban, the wiper would quit working periodical and you would here a buzzing noise but no wiper movement. By opening the hood and hitting or tapping on the wiper module they would work again temp for some time. I take the Suburban in with my recall notice, but they refuse to replace since they show this model is not affected or fall with the VIN #'s that show even though the exact symptoms exist. This is a major scam!!!!.
Windshield wiper blades would periodically quit during a light rain. Would usually start back after turning wipers off and on again. Last time during a driving rain storm on I-10 with 18 wheeler close behind, wiper system completely stopped. A very helpless feeling and dangerous situation. Wiper module was replaced the next week. This should be a recall. Talked to dealer and they were aware of several cars with similar situation.
Windshield wipers come on and off by themselves while driving in inclement weather. This problem is intermittent, and the dealer is aware of the problem.
For about 2 months the windshield wipers would fail intermittently. They finally quit completely July 7,2003. Called chevy dealer and they said there was not a recall for 1998 Suburban.
. *ak1997 Chevrolet Suburban windshield wiper motor defect not all 97 Suburbans included mine is excluded & they have stopped working while I was driving several times Chevrolet will not repair want me to pay for the motor NHTSA campaign no. 30v159000.
Repeated windshield wiper motor failure on 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. I could rap on wiper motor box and get it to resume several times, but it would fail again in 20 to 30 minutes. Eventually it failed completely late on a rainy night. I drove 30 miles with no wipers in the rain rather than be stranded with wife and two small children in rural virginia where we have recently had news of attacks and rapes of motorists who had stopped to check their maps.
Windshield wiper motor, control module p/n 12463090, fails due to a cold (cracked) solder joint on the controller circuit board. This causes the windshield wipers to work erratically or not at all.
Windshield wiper motor failed without warning. The wipers worked intermittently, stop in the middle of the windshield, and would not dispense wiper fluid.
1996 chevy Suburban windshield wiper motor failure. Occured suddenly in a downpour on a moutain highway, near collisions trying to negotiate traffic and find a safe place to pull over. Upon having the motor replaced, I found that a recall was effected for this issue that my vehicle was not included in. I wish I had know, I would have fixed the issue anyway. Concerened about the other vehicles out there that have not been corrected.
