The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact was approaching a traffic stop at 5 mph and applied the brakes. A loud noise then emitted as the vehicle began to lunge forward unexpectedly. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the front and rear brake pads were replaced, including the rotors. The anti-lock braking system was also disabled. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
