The front dash has cracked pretty significantly in 2 places. This occurred from the sun with no other factors coming into play. The driver seat fabric does not stay attached underneath the driver seat. Appears it is missing a clip or a poor design that does not secure lower fabric secure to the seat. The steering wheel has a clicking noise when I turn the wheel over. Not sure if it's in the steering column itself or from another piece/fabrication malfunction.

(tw no dealer info) tl the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving approximately 30 mph, the steering wheel was turned in one direction; however, the vehicle proceeded in the opposite direction. In addition, various warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering column sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened case number: 8-3390691721. The manufacturer confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v719000 (steering). The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.
It started with a clicking sound when turning the steering wheel. I brought it to dealership and they changed entire steering column. A week later it made a clicking sound again on a hard turn. I called gm to ask about a buy back. I do not feel safe in that car with kids. Then later the same day, I was backing out of sons little league game and steering column locked and displayed locked on information screen. I hit brakes and lock display disappeared so I shifted to park and then to back to reverse and steering column lock again display and lock. I then put car back into park and turned off. I turn car back on after a couple of minutes and it was working fine no more steering column lock display. I have a keyless start, loaded lt model that has all features of an ltz Tahoe.
I bought my chevy Tahoe in 2012. When I bought this vehicle, this vehicle had 20 inch tires that came with it. Because of the larger, low profile tires, this has caused a bumpy ride and has caused many repairs to the front end suspension. I have changed the ball joints a few times, wheel hubs, front shocks, steering column ujoint, and constantly getting front end alignments. When I go over bumps,my truck shifts to either left or right. I decided in 2020 to changed my tires to a different make and model thinking this would correct problem. It didnt correct problem. I have spent alot of money for nothing.

2002 chevy Tahoe lt:
intermediate drive shaft needs to be replaced; however, the dealer has yet to make a recall. It appears to be very common in this vehicle as well as my other gm vehicle(pontiac grand prix which was under recall). Clunking, looseness in steering wheel column when driving, mostly heard while driving over bumps. Just purchased, waiting to see if dealer will replace at no cost.

I bought my 2003 chevy Tahoe in October 2006, and within 3 months after I had it the steering shaft was vibrating terribly, made me very nervous as it felt loose. I took it to our local mechanic who checked it out and assumed there may be a recall but there was not so he stuck a bunch of grease in it and it was good. That lasted about 6 months and again in another 6 months or so. I have had it in 3 times for this issue and have to pay each time to get the steering shaft greased and I think that is ridiculous. This is a top dollar automobile so one would think these problems would not be an issue. Very disappointed.
Steering column making knocking noise and needs to be lubed frequently. Speedometer not working properly.

Total loss of steering in my 2001 Tahoe. This was preceded by a clunking noise that could be heard under the hood and felt through the steering wheel. Fortunately, the loss of steering happened at a low speed and no accident resulted. In my owner's manual, it states that in the event of power assist loss on the steering, you can still drive the vehicle, it will just be more difficult to steer. This is not the case. The vehicle cannot be safely driven at any speed due to the amount of strength required to turn the wheel. This is a dangerous defect in the steering mechanism.

The steering has popping and pining when turning left or right almost sounding as if the wheels are going to come off of the tie rods, suspension. You can feel it in the steering column. Hard steering.
Dealer informs me of problem with steering column. Requires over $100 to fix. Service rep indicates that this problem occurs numerous time per month in their shop. I have friends with like vehicles that say that this problem has occurred with their vehicles. I postponed service this time as I was told that even with lubricant "fix" to expect repeated and continual repetitions of this problem. I am also waiting for a recall to be issued for this problem as I understand it is so prevalent.
Steering column makes loud grinding noises and vibrates while turning wheel. I have taken it to be repaired/replaced 4 times in 3 years and Chevrolet doesn't think this is a problem. As someone else stated, once your warranty is over you will get no help from chevy. One time they replaced my drive shaft, but the problem still exists. I'd love to see a recall as that's the only way I'll ever get the thing rectified.
: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the steering wheel vibrated without warning. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the steering column needed lubrication. The manufacturer was not contacted.
The steering wheel had a bumping feel in it when turning left. After having the steering column lubricated the bumping feel returned.
: the contact stated while the vehicle is driven at any speed there is a cracking noise that can be heard from the steering. This started with only the noise now it is very hard to turn the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; upon inspection grease was added to the steering column. The problem has now reoccurred and the dealer must re grease the steering column. The manufacturer has been alerted.
Thumping noise in the steering column. Started at approximately. 24000 miles. Dealer replaced steering shaft (pn 88963611). At 32000 miles the problem has returned. Gm does not have a permanent repair for this problem. Chevrolet will not cover this problem after the manufacturers warranty expires. Consider this before purchasing this model truck.
I recently took my 2002 chevy Tahoe in to the dealer for a long over due repair. After describing my problem to the service technician (a clunk sound and feel through the steering wheel which I had first noticed at about 20k miles), he told me the problem was a "common occurrence" in the year/model and that it was "due to poor lubrication/design" with the intermediate shaft of the steering column. He shaft would cost $140 plus one hour labor. . . . However; it is on a long back order. Seems strange that an item, which is a "common occurrence" and the item is back ordered (must be a lot of replacing going on) would not be subject to a recall for a free replacement. I paid top dollar for this vehicle and for such a standard piece of equipment to be needed to be replace at this low of mileage seems a bit out of the normal wear and tear. After reviewing many sites on the internet, it seems this occurance is common enough that it should be a recall. Walter goodall.
The consumer experienced thumping and torsion within the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who remedied this condition by lubrication. The problem soon returned, and the dealer replaced the steering column. However the problem recurred and the dealer replaced the entire steering column. He contacted the manufacturer, and they stated they would not accept any financial responsibility now or in the future. There have been no further repairs at this time. Updated 11/16/05.
Steering column rattles/knocks.
Shortly after my year warranty on my 2003 chevy Tahoe I had a knocking noise in the steering column. Chevy put heavier grease in it. The noise has returned shortly after and has continued to this date yet in 2007. If you google search this problem you will see many people have the same problem even after steering columns have been replaced. When will chevy fix this problem for consumers.
Steering wheel feels loose. Thumping noise from stering wheel. Also loud cracking noise from front suspension when turning in driveway. Loud cracking noise from lower front windshield especially at freeway speeds.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. The steering column rattles when driving various speeds over a bump. The dealer greased and injected the column with a special grease at the cost of $100; however, the failure was not corrected. When making sharp turns to the left or right, the steering fails. The current mileage was 97,000 and failure mileage was 30,000.
I have a bumping noise in my steering column. I have a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe with around 70,000 miles. The noise was evident when I purchased the vehicle with 12,000 miles. I do not know if it is a safety problem they are not any recalls listed. I have 3 friends with the same issue with the similar vehicle.
This vehicle experiences a failure in the steering position sensor mounted in the bottom of the steering column that makes you severely oversteer. I have complained to my local chevy dealer and they are aware of the issue, however, they are unwilling to do anything about this. As a certified auto technician,, I feel that this is a extreme safety issue that should cause a recall for repair. I also feel that gm should be liable for any accidents this definately would have caused as they are not correcting this safety issue!.

Vehicle steering column keeps failing and needs lubricating. This is ridiculous. Im going on the 5th time since June of 03 that this has happened. Why isn't there a recall on this! what a crappy way to treat a good chevy gm customer! 2002 Tahoe lt need a recall for everyone affected and there are many many many affected by what I see on the net!.
Intermittently steering wheel will lock up in the direction it's being turned, driver has to apply brakes to unlock it. The dealership indicated that because the steering column has bushings instead of bearing, the bushing wear out, which cause the problem. Please provide more details. Ts.

I've taken my chevy Tahoe in a number of timse for a knocking noise coming from the steering column area. They would lube it up and send me on my way. I think it's wrong and something should be done about it they are aware that there is a problem with this but they except know responsibility. When is there going to be a recall on this ,when someone get killed! this is the date about when I first took it in 04/10/02 only a few months after I bought the truck cash.
The intermediate steering shaft, connecting steering column at firewall penetration to steering gear box disengaged completely from coupling due to improper installation at the factory. Mjs.
