2 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/01/2006

Loose steering and loose clunking coming from steering column. Coming out of turn I hear a noise not normal after turning and the steering feels loose/floaty. I have had the noise for a couple of years but never thought anything of it. Had the front end checked out and the steering looked at about a year ago and it all checked out ok. I still had the clunking and looseness. I recently had a steering fluid flush and check and all turned out well but the noise is still there. It feels as if the steering shaft is floating and snaps back into place after the turn.

3 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/20/2005

I have had to have the steering column in my 2002 chev. Tahoe replaced twice and fixed another. The vehicle starts making a noise when it is turned. After a period of time, the steering gets loose and it sounds and feels like worn ball joints. According to the mechanics at the dealership, this is a very common problem and occurs with the other similar gm vehicles (yukon and escalade). I had my steering column replaced in July and it is already making the noise again. They claim it is not a safety issue but I don't see how it couldn't be. My extended warranty will run out soon and the next time I replace it will be out of my own pocket. I am very concerned that this may be an issue that would cause me to loose control of the vehicle.

4 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/27/2004

Steering loose/wobbly since buying vehicle. In for repair numerous times. At first told something was leaking, then replaced steering shaft thing, then told it was just the way the Tahoe drives. This week was told they "tweaked" the alignment and were going to push it beyond what Chevrolet normally recommends. Picked vehicle up and they had put two new tires on rear of vehicle in addition to alignment. I don't trust the steering and since they still say that is just the way it drives, not sure why they keep repairing things if that "is just the way the Tahoe drives".

Vehicle is a 2000 2wd Chevrolet Tahoe. Vehicle was being backed out of a parking space when a loud bang was heard. After this bang, the steering was very loose and it was hard to control the vehicle. Immediate problem was determined to be 2 of the 3 bolts holding steering box in place had sheared. Chevy dealer has not offered a good explanation for this failure. He keeps stating that the vehicle hit something to cause the bolts to shear. Vehicle is in excellent condition and well maintained.
