302 problems related to electrical system have been reported for the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have a 2004 Chevrolet trail blazer. My speedometer hand just stopped working, it is stuck at 120mph. I tried shutting my SUV off and turning it on and even unhooking the battery, but it still doesn't work. . . The dealer said it will cost me $500+ to get it fixed. . Why isn't there a recall on this?? I know a lot more people who have replaced the part twice and it still fails out. I am unemployed and have no income at all and it makes it hard on good honest people who need ways of transportation. I think there should be a recall on these. Its not that fact that I cant pay for getting it fixed, its just a hazard and could make more problems in the future, like speeding tickets!.
While driving at night noticed no low beam head lights. Flipped to high beam and they worked. Called a friend who said to check the relay by switching the fan relay with low beam relay. That was problem. Purchased a new relay next day and installed it. 2 days later, no low beam lights again. Popped cover on relays to find a melted mess. Low beam relay had melted along with the 15 amp fuse adjacent to it as well as the fuse box. Upon further research on line, this seems to be an ongoing issue with this vehicle. I'm currently hunting down a used under hood fuse/relay box to replace this one with.
Tl - the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that that the windows failed to open or close. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the master window switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 75,000. Pm.
Gas gauge and oil pressure gauge stopped working.
Lights started flashing, gas gauge went to empty, car died. Restarted drove 1/4 mile died. Stereo system completely failed (whole unit). Keeps popping circuits changed out still doing. Cannot shut off heat due to banging sound. Car speeds up and down on own. Cannot read gas gauge correctly, not sure how full tank is.
The gage cluster stopped working. I have no speedometer, no temp sensor, no oil pressure, and no battery charge.
The dash control panel has stopped working or only certain items showing speed, temp and oil pressure work on occasion. After searching online for repair options there are a number of complaints for the same problems for this specific vehicle.
The instrument panel randomly goes off then on, sometimes freezes. Happens at any speed. No special characteristics that causes it.
2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext with 76,500 miles on it. While driving to work I noticed the oil pressure gauge was reading maximum. I immediately pulled over in the dark on a busy hwy to check oil and it was full. Then approx 2 weeks later the oil pressure gauge is pointing down and stays there. Now the speedometer is reading 80 mph even when stopped. This is a huge safety issue. I have serious doubts as to whether the gas and water temp gauge is reading correctly. There are numerous complaints already filed about this model and many other Chevrolet models. Recalls have been made on some models for this problem, but not this one. Chevrolet needs to recall this model ASAP and correct the infamous problem that they are well aware of. This is a very costly repair and one that the consumer should not have to pay for.
There are a few things. And I just would like to know if there is a recall or possible recall issue at hand. The first thing that happened was the rpm gaudge. It will stick at 3000rpm or higher. But the engine is not over reving and the needle still moves up and down as if it would when reading correctly. But doesn't drop below the 3000rpm. Then it randomly resets and works correctly then will again randomly stick at 3000 empty or higher. The next thing that happens is the battery light will randomly flicker. Not all the time just at random. I had the battery tested and its holding a charge just fine. The weird thing next was I killed the power. No key in at all and it still flickered on my dashboard. Then stopped the next day. Another thing I was driving home 1 night from work. Turned my blinkers on to turn onto my road and my interior lights slowly come on and slowly turn back off. My head light wire on the drivers side burnt out about a yr ago which I replaced. Now I'm having issues with the drivers side. The bulb for my low beam is not blown. If u hit it comes back on. My drivers side speaker has not worked since I purchased my Trailblazer. And it will randomly work. This is recent. I really think there is an electrical problem. And my consent is a fire. Ive had it just under 2 yrs. And I'm only the 2nd owner and it had 34000 miles on it when I bought it in June of 2011.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the speedometer seized temporarily. The vehicle was diagnosed by a certified mechanic who stated that the instrument cluster would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified of the problem. The failure mileage was unavailable.
Speedometer fails to register correct speed. Inoperable speedometer stuck at zero when moving or sometimes at other displayed speeds while stopped.
Speedometer and gauge panel not working. No gauges move to show speed, gas level, battery level, temp.
After driving my LS Trailblazer to the store, I got back in to notice the speedometer was no longer resting at "0". This was before I even started the vehicle. It was sitting at the "55" point! upon starting the vehicle, the gauge did not move back to zero. So as I drove away, going no more than 10mph, the gauge suggested I was going 65! I was scared driving home because I did not know my exact speed. Upon getting home and shutting off the vehicle, I noticed the gauge rested at the "50" point. So I turned on the vehicle, then quickly turned it off. The speedometer was now resting at "45". I continued to quickly start and then shut off the vehicle, eventually working the gauge back down to zero. But this does not seem like the right thing to do. There is obviously something wrong. In the past, I have had smaller scale incidents with the tachometer gauge. It would zero itself at 1 or 2 rpms, thus indicating my engine was revving higher than it actually was. Moreover, a couple times my fuel gauge was pointing outside of the e to f range! there is something seriously wrong with the electrical system. Gm, you need to recall this and fix it please.
The instrument gauges started to act up. It first began with the gas tank gauge not working and then the speedometer soon followed.
The speedometer started to malfunction while driving 40 mph north bound on davis blvd. The speedometer was reading 80 mph then when stopped it was still reading 80 mph. It then moved past the gauge not allowing to know my actual speed. This to me is a car safety issue because we never know how fast we are going. The gas gauge has been malfunctioning for more that 24 months. The caution light (yellow) turns on when you need to fill the tank so we have been using this light to fill the car with gas. The gauge needs to be repaired. Since the car is not abused we fill this is something which should have lasted the regular 100,000 miles before there was a problem. The warranty period is over. From talking to other users and repeated searches online it seem to be a regular failure item. I believe it should be repaired by general motors corporation. Many drivers have had to spend lots of money to have this item fixed in less than average mean times between failure of (100,000 miles).
I can start my vehicle and the gauges started sticking. I am constantly being shocked by the driver door. My gauges no longer work at all and have completely went haywire. I have no dash lights. My vehicle has just died in the middle of a busy street. I do not know how much fuel I have, how fast I am going. My cruise control either at times increases my speed or does not hold the speed. I have to use a gps device to know approximate speed. This vehicle needs to be recalled. I love my vehicle but it has tons of issues.
I have the same problem that an earlier blogger as, all my gauges are stuck, the speedometer is stuck, the oil gauge stuck, gas gauge stuck, I think gm needs to take control of their problem and correct it, not just say it's not a problem they will not fix. There needs to be a recall for this problem pin the Trailblazer trucks.
On about 6 occasions over the past couple weeks my sunroof has opened by itself. On each occasion it has happened after backing up and then putting it in drive. When it happens I try to stop it by pressing the close button but it doesn't do anything and continues to open fully and stops. After about 20-30 seconds I can close it.
The electrical system on my 2004 Trailblazer ext is not operating properly. The tachometer doesn't register, nor does the battery gauge and uncertain if the reading on the oil gauge is accurate. The fuel gauge is not operable, the needle is either pass e(empty) or pass f (full), I'm constantly re-fueling for fear of running out of gas. When first starting the engine, the speed indicator might register correctly, but then it falls below 0 mph while traveling speeds of 35 to 55 mph and other times it may indicate speeds in excess of 100 mph. Problems with the speedometer first started in June 2012 , I used a gps to keep track of traveling speed. Afterwards, the other gauges started to malfunction. No parts have been repaired or replaced. Very concerned about safety issues, as I occasionally transport my grandchildren to appointments. Has Chevrolet made any amendments to correct these problems? assistance needed please.
Fuel gauge stays on empty and oil temperature gauge stays at 260 degrees. The speedometer sticks and resets incorrectly at random intervals.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the entire cluster gauge was inoperable. The contact was unable to see the current vehicle speed due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the cluster gauge need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.
Many times while driving this SUV, the engine has just shut off. It will start right back up. However it is scary and we have tried to figure this out for quite some time now. The worst time was when I was getting on a busy interstate and the car cut off. I don't know if the vehicle was doing this prior to our purchase. I can not get any information from carmax in regard to this. It is well maintained and due to this, I rarely take it out on the road anymore.
Fuel gauge has been fluctuating wildly for a couple of months, generally reading empty (even after fill up) but occasionally full (when a fill up is needed). Dealer said fuel gauge sensor was bad & that it would be approx $900 to fix. Looking into the problem online I see there are thousands of people with the same problem.
Beginning with the tachometer in 2011, the remaining gauges on the instrument panel cluster have proceeded to stop working over the next two plus years to the point that none of them work anymore (including the speedometer). We have no idea how fast we are driving nor do we know the status of our fuel level.
The speedometer and tachometer give improper readings. They failed whilst I was driving on the interstate at 70 mph.
Love the vehicle except the fact all my gauges stick. . . . Gm had told me this has to be safety issue in order to be recalled. . . I'm pretty sure not knowing how fast I am going on the highway is a saftey issue. . . Especially with little children in the car. This is unacceptable. I refuse to pay for a defect that is happening in many gm vehicles. . . If I can find all the complaints I'm sure gm can as well. How do we get gm to fix these problems and try to keep customers????.
The speedometer on my 2004 Trailblazer operates very erratically. At times it does not work at all at times it registers way slow or way fast. This to me is a major safety issue. If driving on snowy roads you can not tell how fast your wheels are spinning and this could cause loss of control of the vehicle. Or another scenario, traveling on the interstate and the miles per hour is registering between 5 and 10 mph less that you are actually traveling. This could pose a rear end collision problem as those traveling behind you may not notice that your speed is slower. A properly functioning speedometer is a vital part of being able to drive the vehicle in a safe manner, not only for your safety but for those around you. In searching the internet this seems to be more of a "common" problem than what one might realize. General motors should be held accountable for this problem, as a properly functioning speedometer is an important safety feature. The same as brakes failure, throttle sticking, fire hazard or any other myriad of items on a vehicle are related to the proper and safe operation beyond the operators control. Please look into this. Thank you.
2004 chevy Trailblazer fuel gauge not working it goes around in circles does not measure fuel and has caused vehicle to run out of gas, the gauge started measuring incorrectly, then moving from full to empty going in circles now its stuck arrow pointing downward, my family and I were lucky that the vehicle behind us was not speeding or else he would have slammed into the back of our SUV and caused a serious accident.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet trail blazer. The contact stated that the heating and air conditioning fan control would not work until it reached level four of the five settings. In addition, the speedometer was inoperable. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000.
The speedometer in my 2004 Trailblazer regularly becomes stuck while I'm driving.
2004 chevy Trailblazer gauge panel stopped working. Oil temp, water temp, fuel, and volts. Rpm and speedometer still ok but have heard numerous complaints on this very issue. Cost to fix this issue is very expensive and not acceptable.
While taking my girls to school my speedometer reading was 50mph faster than I was actually going and my tact was not registering at all. When I stopped the car I turned engine off and restarted the car and neither gauge works at all and hasn't in over a year. I took the vehicle to my local dealership and they want 800. 00 to fix it and said it was a malfunction in the cluster and I have checked and it is a severe problem with this make and model. I have been driving without these gauges working and judge my speed with the traffic, but I am a single mom with limited resources and purchased a gm vehicle because of the safety reports. I feel that with all of the other same complaints does it take a loss of life to get this issue resolved.
Since purchasing our blazer, we have replaced both headlight bulbs numerous of times including the sockets for each side. My headlights have been known to work one day and not the next. Or we can simply tap it and it will go out/come on. In the last 3 months I have had the bulb on the driver side replaced twice! we have speculated that the wires are loose but when inspected, that does not seem to be the case. I have had my car at the shop (not chevy they cost too much) and they have not found anything more than a burnt bulb. Within the last 2 months, I was driving on a road that was not well lit at about 10p when both headlights went out. After pullling over & deciding the only way to make it home was to drive with my flashers on, I continued my way home. Half way home they came back on but before I got home they went out again. How does that happen? again, I would say it's a loose wire, but what are the odds of that on both sides? now, tonight, while my 17 year old son was driving (11p) with 2 friends with him, both headlights went out; but came back on. My lights have been known to flicker, like they are not getting enough power/too much. I have called a local dealer & am told they can run a test to see what they find. That would be great, if I had the cash flow for it; as it's not cheap just for them to "run" the test not fix it. . . That will cost extra. I am not sure how chevy feels there is not an issue with the headlights? if you know exactly what my issue is please tell me so that I can have some one I can afford to pay, fix it. Buying bulbs is the least of my worries if that was the only issue. But for both headlights to go out at the same time, thats an issue! I would hope that you, chevy, realize this is an ongoing issue & really has nothing to do with mileage. The headlights have been an issue since we bought the vehicle.
On June 23, 2011, I cranked my 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer lt and the guages (speedomter, tacometer, etc. ) began to fluctuate at a rapid speed. The SUV cut off and I attempted to crank it again. The same thing happened again while I was driving the car. The speedometer went to zero as I was driving 70 miles per hour on the highway. I slowed down, but I had no idea how fast nor slow I was going. I pulled off of the highway, turned the SUV off and restarted it. The speedometer went to 70 miles per hour while it was parked. The speedometer stayed at 70 mph as I made my way back to the highway. I have read several, literally hundreds, of similar situations online about chevy Trailblazers. I researched and found there are no recalls regarding this malfunction. The first time my guages fluctuated was about 3 years after I purchased the SUV. I turned the vehicle off, restarted it and had no more problems, so I thought it may have been a glitch and thought nothing else about it. After reading other consumers' concerns about the problem, I discovered most of them had problems with their speedometers during the second year after the SUV was purchased. It's a very dangerous situatuon when one cannot guage his or her speed while driving because the speedometer stops working all of a sudden. It's dangerous at crosswalks, schools zones, and every road and highway we travel on. Consumers have complained to their Chevrolet service mechanics and customer service, but many are told the part has to be replaced or the entire console has to be replaced and reprogrammed. I am persuaded that there is a problem with the electrical system which has an adverse effect on the speedomter. Hopefully this matter can be resolved without any tragic endings.
