Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging Problems of Chevrolet Trailblazer - part 1

Chevrolet Trailblazer owners have reported 38 problems related to other fuel system tank filling/charging (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

Fuel gauge read full tank when in fact the tank was empty. I ran out of gas in my driveway. When this occurred my on dash computer went crazy lighting up then turning off, when I put gas in the car and restarted several times the computer seemed to correct itself. Filling the tank the gauge read empty and remained that way for several days. The gauge operates intermittently. I recently had the fuel pump replaced after failure. The pump was replaced prior to this incident. I have scheduled the gauge repair with my dealer.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

After fueling the vehicle with 12 gallons of gas, (filling it up from half a tank) the fuel gauge read empty and the out of fuel / low fuel indicator light was on. The vehicle stalled twice while in traffic driving it home, but did not result in an accident as traffic was light at the time. After calling the dealership they told me this is a common problem that happens every 50k miles "give or take" and that I need to have my fuel level sensor and fuel pump replaced. In looking online, I find that this is indeed a very common problem that has resulted in crashes and other safety issues and has been ignored by gm and the NHTSA for several years now despite the constantly growning number of claims. The dealer stated it would cost "somewhere around $900" to have this fixed. I told them what I thought of that, bought the delphi replacement unit myself for $200 and made the repairs on my own. However gm is going to be getting a bill for this from my lawyers.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/29/2014

After I filled the fuel tank in my Chevrolet Trailblazer the fuel light came on and the fuel gauge read empty. Since then I have been resetting my trip meter when ever I fuel up,but my husband forgot to after filling up and ran out of fuel when he wasn't sure of how much gas the vehicle actually had. I contacted the local Chevrolet dealership after I found that the NHTSA had a defect investigation on my vehicle. The service department informed me that it would only be replaced if the vehicle was 120,000 miles or under and until August 2015. Now I have 122,000 miles I'm responsible for replacing the defective part myself? the problem and danger of engine stall still exists due to low fuel levels no matter what the mileage is. The vehicle manufacture did not inform us that we had to dispose of the vehicle after 120,000 miles because it was going to be unsafe and no warranty to repair a dangerous recall. I feel that Chevrolet should replace the fuel level sensor no matter what the current mileage is because the dangers still exist. I do not understand the thought process behind this and I greatly appreciate help with this problem.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/10/2014

We own a 2006 chevy Trailblazer with 86492 miles on it. Yesterday after filling the vehicle to a full tank of gas. The fuel gauge would drop to empty and the empty tank light will come on.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

I stopped to fill my car with gas as I was on a little less than a quarter of a tank. The fuel light had not come on, nor the check engine light. After filling the tank up all the way with fuel, I got in the car and the fuel light came on, and the needle wouldn't leave empty. It stayed this way for about a mile till I got home. I shut my car off in the driveway and waited a few minutes thinking that it must play "catch up," but when I turned it back on, it went to full immediately, but then immediately went to empty with the fuel light on. As soon as this happened, the check engine light came on as well, and goes on and off, which I suspect has something to do with the sensor in the fuel tank. I googled this problem and found that there are several sites, with a lot of people experiencing the same exact problems. I am now having to set my trip meter so that I don't run out of gas till I get it fixed. Hoping someone looks into this.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/17/2014

Immediately after filling the gas tank the gas gauge went from showing a full tank to showing empty and the gas light came on. After a few miles the gas gauge was showing a half tank.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/09/2014

There is a strong odor of gasoline vapors coming from the rear of the vehicle, a crack can be seen in the neck of the fuel tank. When filling the vehicle, fuel spills out of the tank from the crack. The fuel gauge cluster in the dash doesn't work. The blower on the a/c unit doesn't work on the highest (5) level. Also, the fan clutch went out causing the car to overheat severely. The fan does not engage, causing the water pump shaft to become damaged. Also, the rear driver side window quit functioning, despite buying an expensive new regulator and replacing it. Having researched the issues, I find that I am among hundreds, possibly thousands of unsatisfied people with the same problems.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

The fuel gauge malfunctions after filling tank - it reads empty immediately and intermittently thereafter at any fuel level. It makes it difficult for traveling any long distance as you are not quite sure how much fuel is available or if it will shut down on me during a difficult situation. We have contacted gm and they want to charge me to check it and this has been reported as a problem for multiple models to gm. This is very scary as I travel long distances to and from work each day - I feel that this puts me in harms way. I don't believe that I should pay to a defective part that gm knows about but doesn't acknowledge.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

Where the gas filler neck connects to the gad tank this area develops a crack allowing gas to leak from the vehicle and during filling up to a couple quarts of gas can run onto cement by the pump, also strong gas smell in the garage. . This also triggers the check motor light. According to internet postings other trail blazer owners are experiencing the same problem.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/28/2013

After filling the fuel tank to full, the fuel gage read empty and the display read "low fuel'. After driving a few miles, the gage read different readings from 1/4 tank to 3/4 tank and would sometime read full and slowly drop to empty.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/15/2013

After completely filling the gas tank, fuel began heavily pouring out from underneath the vehicle. It appears that there is a leak where the fuel hose (not sure of the exact part names) meets the fuel tank. It seems that this is a manufacturers defect as other complaints pertaining to this issue are very numerous.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/15/2013

Vehicle stalled in traffic. Found no fuel in system even though fuel indicator noted a half tank. A week after this the low fuel light came on 15 miles after filling the tank. It has been on ever since and will not go off. We now have to keep track of fuel by using the trip computer.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/28/2013

My 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer shows that the fuel level reads empty after refueling to capacity. The fuel sensor light was also illuminated. Once on the interstate for appx 50 miles the level resumes. No telling how much fuel is in tank after filling. The vehicle was taken to the mechanic, who stated that the fuel sensor needs to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/21/2013

After filling the gas tank at a local wawa gas station that I've used since owning the vehicle, I began to head home after work. As I left the parking lot and proceeded to merge onto the main highway my fuel gauge and fuel pump completely stopped working, truck had shut off as if it had run completely out of gas, which was not the case as I had just filled the 22 gallon tank with approx. 20 gallons of fuel. Thankfully I was able to keep the fuel pump operating after letting the truck sit for about 15 minutes, but the fuel gauge is no longer operational, but who knows how long the fuel pump will operate properly. Unfortunately my fiance and child now have to drive this vehicle due to the fact of our second vehicle being sold. It has now become a safety issue as there is no bearing on fuel level in vehicle. I've done research and found this issue to be a recurring theme for the model years 2005 - 2007 as well as seeing special policy letters sent out by gm to acquaintances with the same model year SUV for a rebated repair from a licensed gm dealer and yet I've not received one. Its now affecting the registration process for my vehicle to comply with state regulations. I do not feel as though any responsibility should fall on the consumer for a part that was poorly fabricated by the manufacturer.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Fuel gauge is not working properly. Stays on (e) empty, even after filling up. Can not tell how much fuel is in the tank. Must keep track of miles driven on a daily basis to ensure of not running out of gas when driving. Dangerous and very unsafe.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

After filling up my tank, as I pulled away from the pumps, the gauge registered empty, low fuel light came on, and check engine symbol came on. I pulled into parking lot; the engine sputtered and refused to start for a few minutes. After a day or two, the gas gauge showed full, but it fluctuates between full and 1/2 all of the time. This happens every time I fill up my tank! I am afraid to go out of town because of the low fuel light coming on. I now have to rely on my trip meter being on display constantly so I can estimate how much gas I have left. I have seen hundreds of complaints regarding the same thing happening in Trailblazers, but I have not yet received a recall notice from gm. Shame on you, gm! and you wonder why we're trading your product for foreign autos!.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/21/2012

Fuel sensor does not work ! after filling gas tank completely, fuel gauge still reads empty. Gauge can sometimes read up to half, then drops to a quarter, then just drops to empty whenever it pleases. Also, sometimes the speedometer acts very "twitchy". I have read multiple complaints online about these same exact issues and feel that a full recall is absolutely necessary.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

Began to smell gas fumes inside the car after filling my 2004 Trailblazer. Noticed it for about 4 weeks then had the oil changed at the dealership where we purchased the car new. They informed us that there was a crack in the top of the fuel tank, where the filler tube is, and would need to replace the tank.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/04/2012

Fuel gauge will drop to empty once it hits my half tank reading. I fill tank up and once the fuel gauge reaches half a tank, it will drop to empty as I am driving. It will move erratic while driving. Cannot tell how much gas I have once it reaches 1/2 tank. Afraid to stall while driving and running out of gas. Cannot afford to be filling up gas tank!!.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

After filling my tank, the gage would drift between full and empty and then settle on the empty side. Now it does not even move from that location!.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/12/2012

Fuel gauge reads empty, with the low fuel light on, after filling the fuel tank. Sometimes, while driving or after starting the vehicle, the gauge needle moves up and reads non-empty and then back to empty triggering the low fuel light and the low fuel bell.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/10/2012

Fuel gauge reads empty after filling tank, won't reset itself after fueling. Back hatch lock is stuck in lock and has already been replaced once. Sometime when your setting still at a red light or just going slow in traffic, there seems to be a "surge" of power or fuel to where the vehicle lurches forward. When driving at night the lights will flicker or dim on there own.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/19/2011

I was driving the truck and the fuel gauge was reading that there was gas in the tank. The vehicle died causing loss of power steering and power brakes. I was able to pull the truck to the side of the road with great effort. Had my wife or teenage daughter been driving the outcome might had been very different. After filling the gas tank the gauge went to e and never worked properly afterwards.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/15/2010

The gas gauge on the dashboard does not work. It always says the tank is empty, even after filling it.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/17/2010

After filling up the gas tank, the fuel gauge light stays on and remains on empty.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/02/2010

I have a 2006 chevy Trailblazer and today after filling up the gas tank the fuel gauge malfunctioned and the engine light came on. The vehicle only has 35000 miles and has been well maintained since I bought it new. After doing a search online it seems that this happens to everyone that owns one of these vehicles and the repair ranges from $800 to $1100. If this is such a well known flaw, shouldn't there be a recall to have this corrected? I don't think that every consumer should be on the hook to correct an obvious design flaw. This is a potentially dangerous situation since there is no way to tell how much fuel is in the vehicle.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/08/2010

After filling up my gas tank the fuel sensor read empty and the gas light was on. Also, whiel driving the fuel sensor would jump around showing empty, full and the gas light would come on. The vehcile was still under warranty at the time so I took it to the dealership to have it repaired. The service rep at the dealership inidcated that it was a common problem with the fuel sensor and it would need to be replaced. He mentioned that I was lucky the vehicle was still under warranty because the repair was very costly. My vehicle occassionaly lurches when it put inot gear from being parked or idle as if it wants to just take off right away. I contacted gm on this and they stated there was nothing they could do, but I have researched and found that many others have has this same problem. Another issude I have had was my speedometer and entire dash cluster failing. While driving on the interstate my speedometer jumped to over 100 mph and then back down to 0. At that point it stopped working for a few minutes then started working properly again. Finally it stopped working altogether. I took it to my mechanic and he replaced the enitre cluster panel which cost me around $800. 00. Again, he did some research and found this to be a common problem. I sent gm a letter with a copy of the repair bill along with documentation of the many complaints I found online with the same issue. I heard nothing. I reached out with a phone call and was told the issue did not warrant a recall. This could be a serious safety issue. Please consider a recall as it apperas this vehicle was just poorly made and many other people are experiencing the same issues.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/09/2009

Don't have the exact dates and miles but I have had 2 instances where my gas guage stopped working after filling up. First time I had the issue fixed at the chevy dealership while under warranty, then maybe a year later it broke again. I have not gone to fix it. Due to the guage never showing gas in the vehicle my check engine light comes on. I drive about 200 miles until I go and fill which would be around 1/2 a tank. I cannot go on long trips as I would never know where I am on gas. One time breaking I can see since this appears to be a well known issue with the vehicle, but a 2nd time after the dealership replaced it seems like really faulty parts or dealership errors. I have been quoted between $300-$500 to fix the problem but not by a chevy dealership. I have many issues where I purchased this Trailblazer. I don't know if chevy would fix this again at their cost and I would hope this becomes a recall after nearly 1,000,000 complaints.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/16/2009

Upon filling my gas tank at a local gas station, the check engine light came on and my gas gauge began to go haywire with many fuel level fluctuations. My local dealer told me that my gas cap was defective, which I then replaced. The check engine light went out a few days later, but my gas gauge continues to malfunction. I am now told that a replacement of the sensor will cost between $800 to $1000 and that my extended warranty does not cover this. Internet research has revealed hundreds of similar complaints. This company has received my tax dollars for a bailout only to expect more money for a defect that is obviously poor quality parts and workmanship.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/13/2008

I started my car up this morning when I noticed that I had only 1/4 tank of gas left, so I drove down to the gas station and filled up until it clicked. I got back in and started the car and the needle was moving very slow then it stopped at 1/4 of a tank and I was like that is impossible. At first I was pissed because I just spent $77 filling up. Then I was scared I thought maybe I had a hole in my fuel tank so I pulled over and saw that there was nothing leaking. Immediately driving to the auto shop I am informed that the fuel gauge isn't working and would need to be replaced. Since we are stationed overseas I would be paying about 400 to 500 euros which isn't happening anytime soon. I was told to keep track of my mileage by setting the odometer everytime I filled up. Running out of gas is not an option in germany there are fines and even jail time because its called not being responsible. It can also cause accidents and traffic jams if my car was to just run out of gas on the autobahn. This is a very common problem and needs to be fixed by gm. I guess that isn't an option until someone gets hurt or worse actually dies.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/23/2008

My 2006 chevy Trailblazer gas gauge is not operational, I have read blogs and discussion boards and this defect is common on 06 Trailblazers. At the time of filling up your tank the engine warning light comes on and the gauge will swing to full and then gradually drop down to empty and the low fuel light will come on. Like myself,t here are a lot of owners depending on the "fuel used" indication and resetting at the time of fill up.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/15/2008

Chevy Trailblazer fuel level sensor quit working at 60,000 and dealer wants 500. 00 to repair. Gage started showing empty after filling up, now it only goes to 1/4 tank or empty. I have to use trip meter to keep up with fuel.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

My fuel gauge indicator light remains on indicating low fuel. At first when I would fill the tank the gauge would shoot to 'e' and then would ready properly after driving 20-30 miles. Now, the gauge remains on 'e' with the indicator light on indicating low fuel regardless to me filling up my tank. I have no way of telling how much fuel is in my vehicle at any given time. This is a hazard to myself and my family with the constant wondering if today will be the day I run out of gas. This is also costing me more to keep putting gas in my vehicle to make sure I have enough to carry out my daily affairs.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/06/2008

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving 25 mph, the fuel gauge needle moved to full. Upon filling the vehicle with fuel, the gauge remained full for the rest of that day. The following day, when the vehicle was started, the needle went around in a circle (counter clockwise) beyond the full mark. The failure has continued for the past six months. The contact read that the failure was due to a sensor in the gas tank, but has not taken the vehicle to the dealer or a mechanic. The manufacturer has not been notified. The current mileage was 90,300 and failure mileage was 85,000.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/07/2007

Fuel gauge reads eradict. After filling, reads empty. Just keeps getting worse. Now it will read empty when I know there is at least 1/2 tank judging by the trip meter.
