Chevrolet Trailblazer owners have reported 600 problems related to tank assembly (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Gas gauge is reading wrong. Once I fill up the tank with gas, it's reading empty and the gas light is on. It fluctuates all over the place while driving it.

The gas gauge no longer works. I filled my SUV up with gas, the gauge reads empty. While driving the gauge will bounce from 1/2 tank to full to empty. I never really know how much gas I have or when I will run out. Looking on the internet I see that this has been a very common issue for a bunch of people.
Got full tank of gas. Fuel gauge drops to empty. Appears to fix self then drops to empty more. Fuel gauge completely unreliable. Have to use trip meter now to judge gas level. Dangerous if I run out of gas in heavy traffic.

The speedometer in my vehicle suddenly shows over 120 mph no matter what speed I am travelling. I have found this to be a common complaint. The fuel gauge is also very inaccurate never showing more than 1/4 tank of fuel regardless of how much I put in.
The first time the tank read empty was on November 23, 2011 when there was about 1/4 a tank of gas in the vehicle. The gauge went back and forth between empty and just over making the light and noise come on. Today November 27, 2011 it came on after fueling a little over 9 gallons of gas in the vehicle. I pulled over to the side of the road to see if turning the car off an restarting the vehicle would reset it, it didn't work. We continued on with the light on and did what we needed to do. We went to the gas station and filled the tank the rest of the way and it still showed empty with the light coming on.

Filled fuel tank full, and started to drive away. Fuel gauge suddenly dropped to empty and low fuel light came on. Moments later, fuel gauge returned to a full reading, and low fuel light went off. Moments later while driving, fuel gauge again dropped to empty and low fuel light again came on. Check engine light also then came on and has stayed on. Now fuel gauge intermittently drops to empty and low fuel light comes on, then gauge returns to full reading. Check engine light stays on. Dangerous potential to run out of fuel as have no idea as to actual gas in tank. Understand that this has been a common problem on this and similar gm vehicles.
Gas guage went to empty while travelling down a steeper hill. Low fuel light came on as well, even though the guage had been reading approx. 1/4 tank remaining. Stopped and filled the tank but guage did not move from empty and fuel light stayed on even with a full tank of gas. No longer able to guage fuel levels and have to track it using trip mileage.
Fuel guage inoperable, fuel gauge indicates empty at all times. Even after a fill-up of the gas tank.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact was driving 40 mph when the vehicle ran out of fuel. The fuel gauge was reading a quarter tank of fuel yet the empty light was illuminated. The contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer nor was the manufacturer made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Fuel gauge remains at empty even with a full tank. Tt.
Fuel sensor failure, does not read true fuel tank level. Generally when full reads empty then as tank decreases gauge may read correct.
My 2003 Trailblazer developed a fuel leak at the inlet check valve. Specifically I was informed by the dealership that the inlet valve has developed a crack in the weld and is leaking gas when the tank is full or while I am filling up the tank. I believe this is a dangerous situation and in doing some research appears to be a common problem with both the ext and regular models of Trailblazer. However only the ext models are under special coverage for replacement at this time.

The first time I noticed there was a problem with the fuel guage sensor in my '07 Trailblazer, I had about 1/3 of a tank of gas when I parked and turned the engine off to go into a store. When I started the engine again, the fuel guage went to empty and the low-fuel light came on. I went to fill the tank and only needed about 11 gallons, which is when I confirmed the guage was wrong. The guage continued to show empty and has ever since. I am now doing my best to keep track of fuel by estimating usage based on the miles driven after each fill-up. I've been reading up on the recall and I'm outraged that gm is still only offering to pay for half of the repair costs if done at a dealer, which, by the way is why I haven't had this repair done yet. I've read in some cases there have been estimated costs between $700 and $1200. So if gm is only going to pay half of the cost, I'm looking at potentially $600 or so to repair something that gm has admitted is a problem. I cannot afford this repair, and I hope that I am able to keep track of my gas based on mileage so I never run out of gas, especially with my two young children in the vehicle. I also don't believe I or any other vehicle owner should have to pay for something that has been recalled by the manfacturer. Gm should accept responsibility if they want to keep their loyal customers happy and keep them coming back. Is there any help out there for people in my situation? I know the recall was issued, I know gm has only offered to pay half of the cost, but what about people who cannot afford this additional expense? I know there are many.
Approximately a month ago my low fuel indicator light came on and my fuel gauge reflected empty despite filling up my gas tank just hours earlier. Since that time this has kept happening and seems to always indicate an empty tank despite the fact that it is incorrect. Evidentely this issue is very common with my vehicle and I feel that it needs to be documented. This is a huge safety concern due to the fact that I am never sure exactly how much fuel that I have in my vehicle. After calling the dealership I was told that this is an approximate $400 total repair. Gm stated that they will pay for 1/2, however this is still a large out of pocket expense. They also stated that I will only get the 1/2 off as long as I bring my vehicle to the dealership. Gm should have issued a 100% total recall on this component since its so widespread. I have no alternative but to pay for this repair at their dealership.
Driving down the road at 65 mph fuel gauge drops from 3/8 full to zero. Other gauges such as oil pressure, coolant temperatures also drops to zero. Also several warning lights such as check engine and anti lock break turn on. I stopped the car shut off the engine and it would not start again. After adding 2 gallons of gas it started again but when I took it to gas station I could only add about 11 gallons into a 24 gallon tank. So I believe the reading at 3/8 full was correct before it went to zero. The same situation occurred again when we had 3/4 tank full, this time our family was stranded out of town.
The fuel gauge registers empty when the tank has just been filled. It never recovers to an accurate reading and has never since this incident initially occured.
Four days ago, while driving I noticed the fuel gage light was on and the needle was on empty. There was 3/4 tank of gas in the vehicle. Then the needle proceeded to slowly rise to half full, and go down and up sporadically. Since then it continues to fluctuate up and down. Even after filling the gas tank a day ago, the needle still sporadically fluctuates between empty and full. The vehicle has 49000 miles on it.
The gas gauge was showing that the tank was empty although it had been filled less than 100 miles earlier. When I filled the tank right after the light went on - I was only able to put 8 gallons of gas in it. The gauge then would move from empty with the warning light coming on to half full and back down during the trip immediately following the fill up. Once the vehicle was started the following morning, the gauge went to full but shortly after went back to empty. Now it continues to read inconsistently every trip moving back and forth between full and empty and other times remaining on empty with the warning light on for an entire trip.
I own a 2006 chevy Trailblazer. My fuel gauge sensor is going out. I just filled my tank and it tells me it is empty. I am told Chevrolet will pay half the costs but it will still cost me $200. I have had more problems with this vehicle than any I have previously owned. If this is such a well known problem with these vehicles why has there not been a recall?.
I had started my truck to let it warm up, after coming back out I noticed the gas gauge was incorrect, I turned off the truck and started it again and watched the gauge go from 3/4 of a tank to 1/2. I took it to see if the battery or alternator was bad, the battery tested bad, so I replaced it. The truck was working fine, until 2/26/12, after driving about 30 miles I noticed the gauge had gone from 3/4 to 1/2. While sitting at a light I watched it then go from 1/2 to 1/4 of a tank. I drove to get gas and it only took $21. 00 to fill it. After reading all of the complaints on this problem, I do not understand how there has not been a recall on this product, and why the manufacturer is only willing to pay for half of the repair. I paid alot of money for this product and do not feel that the company is looking out for us. I feel that Chevrolet needs to make this problem a recall and make it right with all the people that have stood by them.
I would like to add my complaints about the 2007 chevy Trailblazer fuel sensor issues. The gas guage when I bought the vehicle at about 55,000 miles worked but not acurately over the last few months the sensor has stopped working all together and constantly shows an empty tank. I generally by gas twic a week to limit the possiblily of running out and was actually on my way to the gas station when the vehicle ran out of gas while I was on a highway. To me that is a danger to myself and other drivers and the more that I have researched the issue I see that it appears to be a common one that I would feel the NHTSA would be justified in issuing a recall notice for. Thanks.
My gas gauge suddenly does not work properly. Even if I know the tank is full when I first start the engine the fuel light goes on and give the audible signal that it's low on fuel. As I begin to drive the gauge will eventually move a little bit so the light will go off. I have a full tank today and after driving only 13 miles it registers less that half a tank. I got a letter from gm acknowledging that this problem persists but will only offer to pay for half of the repair??? what? didn't we just bail them out? "too big to fail"??? well use some of the money we already gave to gm to fix the problem!!.
The fuel gauge in my 2006 Trailblazer stopped working. Even after filling up the gas tank, it reads that it's on empty, the low fuel light comes on and there is a low fuel level message. This has been going on for several months; it started out with the needle bouncing around the gauge but now it just sits on empty. I am taking it in for repair because I don't feel safe not knowing how much gas I truly ever have.
Gas gauge just stopped working all of the sudden. Even after I fill the tank all the way up, the gas gauge is unresponsive. It reads as empty and the warning sign/beeps continue throughout my drive. I haven't called chevy yet because I wanted to look online to see the estimated cost and possible causes. Much to my surprise, there are about a million other chevy customers with the same issue. Is there a reason a recall hasn't been issued yet? I read chevy doesn't consider this a "safety" issue therefore no recall has been extended. Are you kidding me? I would think your car dying in the middle of the desert and being stranded in the middle of nowhere would be a safety issue. Or your car dying on the highway at 75mph. . Again pretty serious situation. How about if I'm driving through an intersection and my car dies because I have no clue how much gas I have. Then I get t-boned and am at best in critical condition at the hospital. Am I the only one that thinks this is a very serious issue and needs to be recalled because it is in fact a safety issue. Is it not considered a safety issue until we have reported deaths because of it. I'm about to deploy to afghanistan and will unfortunately be leaving this issue for my wife to deal with. I pray that nothing happens to her or my 3 year old daughter because someone wasn't man enough to admit they were at fault and issue a recall to fix a problem so many consumers are having. I will never buy another vehicle from Chevrolet or gm for that. So disappointed.
I filled my gas tank. When I restared the car the gas gauge no longer works. It has been this way for two weeks. I have been setting a trip mileage gauge to insure that I do not run out of gas. I received a notice a while back from Chevrolet stating that this is a problem. They do not accept responsibility in the form of a recall, but will discount the repairs. I threw way the notice as I did not have any problems. I have yet to contact my Chevrolet dealer, as I am considering my options.
The fuel gauge no longer provides an accurate reading. Vehicle stalled due to empty gas tank with gas gauge showing 1/2 tank. Occurred at 48,000 miles. The gas gauge can no longer be relied upon creating an extremely dangerous driving situation should fuel run out and a stall occur.
We ran out of gas on the highway 20 miles from a gas station with kids in the car. The gas gauge in our 05 chevy Trailblazer was wrong and indicated we had gas in the tank.
I was running low of fuel so I stopped at a gas station to refill. After completely filling the tank and starting the vehicle, the fuel gauge needle was on empty and the low fuel level light was lit. Since then, the fuel gauge fluctuates and does not display the actual fuel level. I have been relying on the trip odometer to estimate my fuel usage so that I do not run out of gas. About a month prior to this issue affecting me, I had received a letter from general motors describing this issue a offering to cover 50% of the repair cost. Obviously, this issue is affecting a great number of vehicles and the manufacturer should step up and fix their problem.
The gas gauge does not work and is a safety concern. The first time this occurred was at the gas station after I filled up. Over the past 8 months it became worse and now it stays on empty even with a full tank. I purchased this car used from a BMW dealer just last July. I have researched online and have seen where this is a very common problem among chevy Trailblazers that may involve a fuel sensor.
While driving our gas gauge went down to empty even though we had a full tank. This posed a safety hazard as we were then unable to determine how much gas we actually had. It seems the fuel gauge is faulty. This could lead to running out of gas while driving causeing a potential accident.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS. The contact noticed after refueling the vehicle to capacity, the fuel would leak onto the ground. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the top portion of the fuel tank was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the problem. There was a technical service bulletin pertaining to the defect under NHTSA item number 10026522 (fuel system, other:storage:tank assembly). The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the vehicle fuel gauge failed and the fuel gauge was reading as empty when the fuel tank was filled to capacity. The manufacturer denied assistance with the repair. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 114,000 and the current mileage was 115,000. Updated 11/03/11.
The fuel gauge read 3/4 of a tank so we did not stop to get gas, thinking we had enough to get home. 3min later we ran out on the hwy with 4 children in the car 2 that are under the age of 2 .
While getting a tuneup, third party mechanic advised me that there was a crack in the neck of the gas tank, where the filler tube meets the tank itself. I was advised there was a recall on the 2003 chevy Trailblazer for the same defect. I was also advised there was a NHTSA investigation. I was told my VIN# did not fall within the recall. The third party mechanic advised $800 to replace the tank. I called gm customer service and was told to take it to a gm dealer and have a gm certified mechanic verifiy the third party mechanic's findings. I did so and was charged by the gm dealer to verify there was a crack. When gm customer service called back and verified that there was a problem, they assigned me to a gm customer assistance representative who would investigate if they could assist me with the repairs. Approximately 10 days later I was advised that they would not be able to assist me because the problem I was experiencing was due to age and mileage of the vehicle. There are numerous reports of owners of 2004 chevy Trailblazer owners on the internet that have experienced the exact same problem with fractured, cracked and broken connections on the gas tank where the filler tube meets the tank. I don't understand why a recall for this has not been issued. My vehicle is 7 years old and has less than 90,000 miles on it. We don't live in a state that is considered to be a "corrosive hazard state". If the same problem is happening to the same part on the same vehicle, what is keeping a recall from being issued?????????.
I received a letter advising me of the possibility of the fuel sensor in my 2007 chevy Trailblazer malfunctioning. About one week prior to receiving the notice, the fuel gauge began falling to empty and the low fuel warning sounding, even when I had just filled the tank. The letter advises that gm will only cover half of the repair cost. Obviously, this was a problem with the vehicle when I purchased it new and I see no reason why gm should not be responsible for the entire cost of the repair. Also, why has there been no recall for this problem?.
