37 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/05/2007

My 2003 chevy Trailblazer ext, check engine light came on. Took it into the dealer and said the code it was putting out was p0440 evap leak small. After further investigation there is a small fracture on the gas tank where the filler neck meets the tank itself. I have read of many similar problems of 2002 and 2003 Trailblazers. This seems to be a safety hazard. Although they said no fuel was leaking out of ours, it was leaking vapor. Vapor seems more dangerous than an actual fuel leak.

Failure Date: 02/05/2007

- on February 5, 2007 the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext's service light turned on. The contact took the vehicle to desert pontiac GMC in henderson, nevada. The service mechanic informed the contact that there was a fuel filter cap and fuel filter hose vapor leak, no visible gasoline leaked at this time. The vehicle was out of warranty. The cost of the repair was $900. The contact wanted to file a complaint since there seems to be service bulletin #20050577, and NHTSA items #10141760, #10149536, in which Chevrolet acknowledges there is a problem with this vehicle. The current and failure mileage were both 38000 miles.

40 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/06/2007

The check engine light came on. I took the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer to the dealer, who determined the gas tank leaked from the top of the tank where the gas entered. There was no way this could occur from wear and tear. This was a defect in the workmanship, product liability. It will cost approximately $800 for repairs.

41 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/21/2006

My wife and I have been smelling gas outside and with our 2003 chevy Trailblazer ext. I brought it to my mechanic and he found a split at the top of the fuel tank (neck filler plate). I called the chevy number and brought the vehicle to croton auto park. They found the same problem and said it would cost my over $750 to replace the tank. I view this issue to be a manufactures defect and escalated the matter to chevy. They are offering a 50% rebate to fix. I don't believe I should pay for this defect. I have researched the issue and found more people that had the same problem with their chevy Trailblazer (same model and year). . Read more...

42 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/13/2006

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact claimed to smell gas. The check engine light illuminated a few days later. The vehicle was taken to dealer for service twice. During the second visit, a leak in the filler hose was diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired, but because the repair was not performed by a chevy dealer, the contact could not be reimbursed. The failure mileage was 45885. The customer stated to chevy that he has the cracked filler hose and offered to take to a chevy dealer but preferred an independent testing company gm refused in both cases. Update 04/19/07.

43 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/10/2006

: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection who determined the filler pipe neck at the top of the fuel storage tank assembly was leaking and needed replaced. The manufacturer was alerted. Updated 10/25/2006 - the tank and inlet is a one piece unit. The inlet cracked around the molded flange where it attaches to the fuel tank. This is where the fuel leaked from.

44 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/01/2006

My 2003 trail blazer check engine light was on so I took it in to see why it was on. The mechanic replaced the gas cap reset the engine light and sent me off. Two days later, it came back on so I took it back. This time they replaced a solenoid and reset the check engine light. One day later it can back on. Tires care plus stated to take it to the chevy dealer because they did not know what to do with it. I took it to the dealer and they stated it was a fuel filter fitting leak and that the entire gas tank and fuel hose needed to be replaced at a cost of $1000. 00. I opted not to have it fixed so they sent me home with no warning or further explanation. I went home and did some research on the internet about this problem. As it turns out, there have been numerous complaints about the fuel filter filling breaking from the fuel tank. Four days later, I went to fill up my car with gas and all the gas ran out of the car all over the pavement. I called the chevy dealer, stated what happened and had it repaired for $1000. 00 (the entire gas tank and fuel fitting on a 2003 car!). From what research I have done, the 2002 Trailblazer have been recalled but the 2003 have not and chevy has not redesigned the tank. There was a lady that had to replace her tank twice! is this not a hazard? I kept smelling gas outside my car but assumed that it was because I had overfilled the tank.

45 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/26/2006

: the contact stated the service engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, who determined the fuel pipe that entered the tank was leaking. The tank needed to be replaced.

46 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/09/2006

I own 2002 Trailblazer and twice the fuel tank had broken around the filler neck letting fuel leak out. The problem is several other owners have had the same problem. The second time it broke I replaced it my self and I am sure it is a manufacturing defect. If a owner had this problem it could cause fire/explosion.

47 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/15/2006

Ses light came on. Gas cap replaced. Ses light came on again after fill up and 1/4 tank of gas used. Clamps tightened on filler tube. Ses light came on again after fill up and 1/4 tank of gas used. Went to dealer, replace vent valve in filler tube on Monday. Tuesday morning filled up with gas. Gas was leaking out on the ground and all over my feet. Brought back to dealer, they said the seal on the filler pipe entering the tank had deterioated because of the chemicals in the gasoline, and that was the reason for the break. I do not believe that because the week before the repair I filled the tank & it did not leak, the day after the repair I filled the tank and discovered the hazardous leak. The dealer disclaimed all liability for the broken filler tube at the gas tank. I consider this an extreme safety hazard and the manufacturer should recall all Chevrolet trail-blazers with this type of vent and filler tube problem, because when I looked at my tank there was another tank in the garbage pile with the same failure. There was no fire because I exited the site immediately to prevent a spark from igniting the spilled fuel.

48 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/16/2006

When filling the gas tank, frequently the pump clicks off and gas surges up the filler neck and flows to the ground. Happens at different gas stations and different pumps.

49 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/15/2006

I have a crack in the fill neck of my gas tank. Very expensive fix on a 2002 Trailblazer ext. Caused a loss of speed on the highway and effects the pick up especially when going up hills, even small inclines.

50 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/09/2006

: the contact stated while driving at any speed, fuel fumes were in the passenger compartment. The dealership replaced the charcoal filter, fuel tank, and solenoid. These attempts have not repaired the problem.

51 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/04/2006

2003 chevy Trailblazer ext. Service engine light went on about a month ago. Service at dealership said we needed a new gas cap. This did not fix the problem. Light went back on, took it back this past Saturday. Was told gooseneck to gas tank is cracked, resulting in a fuel leak (I have an infant). Was also told that the Trailblazers often come in for that problem, that there was a recall. The dealership wants over $700. 00 to replace the tank. We have a new baby and are down to only one household income. I called Chevrolet this morning and was told that there is a recall for this exact problem but that my VIN is not on their list si I must have "run something over" that cracked the gooseneck. I don't know much about cars but I know something being run over would not make it to the gooseneck. Chevy admitted this defect to me- just because my VIN did not make their list (allegedly) does not mean that it should not be on it. It would cost them more, in my opinion, in law suits and negative publicity if, god forbid, my family dies in an explosion because this truck blows up in the driveway than it would if they would include my VIN on their list and pay for their defect.

52 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/02/2005

The contact discovered a small crack along the neck of the gas tank allowing visible leakage when filling up with gasoline or while driving. He took the vehicle to a dealer. The dealer confirmed there was a leak on the filler pipe of the gasoline storage tank assembly. Due to the mileage this was not covered under warranty. The dealer did however offer cost assistance by splitting the repair cost. No repairs have been made at this time. Updated 11/30/2005 -.

53 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/17/2005

Chevy Trailblazer 2002 ltz - VIN 1gnet16s226129036 there is a crack in the connection between my gas tank and the filler pipe. Chevy told me that currently they have a "special policy" #05012 which covers this flaw, however my car does not fall under that even though the symptoms are the same. How can I pursue this and get it fully covered. Phil. . . .

54 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/14/2005

After smelling gas fumes and having the "service engine soon" lamp illuminated, I took my 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext to my mechanic for service. The attachment from the fuel filler line and the gas tank was loose. He relayed that chevy was having a lot of problems with this. After pursuing this with gm, I found a special policy # 05012. Gm will fix the problem on vehicles with up to 70,000 miles. My vehicle has 72,000 miles. Gm refuses to repair this defect.

56 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/01/2005

Metal plate with all of the connections to the plastic gas tank rotted away, causing fuel vapors to enter the vehicle. We only have 38,000 miles on the truck. Tank design will hold mud and water in a depression on the top of the fuel tank, promoting rust holes, that not only allowed vapors to escape also leaked gas when the tank was filled.

57 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/01/2005

The fuel tank filler neck detached from the tank. As a result, when filling the vehicle with fuel it poured out onto the ground.

58 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/22/2005

The gas tank always overflowes when filled. It is hard to position the nozzle into the filler neck so that gas flows without holding the pump handle and repositioning several times during the filling process. The oveflow is not from trying to top off the tank either. It happens when the tank is not even full. I have had the vehicle into the dealership more than five times for this and for electrical/battery problems in less than one year. No correction has been made.

59 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/05/2005

2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer fuel filler inlet overflows upon tank fill-up. This condition occurs at fill-up when pump handle is set on automatic shut off, or when shut off occurs when manually filling. This condition is repeatable, and happens regardless of what gas station is used. This condition was reported to a local Chevrolet dealer. Their fix was to replace the inlet filler hose to the tank. This fix was unsuccessful and the condition still exists. Currently attempting to schedule another service appointment.

60 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/17/2004

Fuel leak at the fuel tank neck where rubber hose running from fuel filler pipe is attached to fuel tank. (hose is secured to fuel tank by a hose clamp). The check engine light was on, dealer simply reset the light. The light was back two days later and there was a gas smell. I looked at the fuel tank and saw fuel was seeping at the fuel tank neck.

61 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/10/2004

Every time I fill up the gas tank (tried 10 different pumps at 10 different gas stations) the autoshut off on the gas pump does not work quick enough. Gas overflows out of the tank and spills on the ground. Something wrong with the design of the Trailblazers fill up tube? I am not trying to "top off" the tank either.

62 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/01/2004

I purchased a 2004 chevy Trailblazer in September 2003. Within 6 months of purchase, the check engine light came on. Dealer said it was a computer error and reset the computer. Approximately every 6 months thereafter, check engine light came on and dealer said each time it was evaporation caused by not tightening gas cap appropriately. Dealership changed owners and new dealer reset the computer once (saying gas cap not tightened appropriately), the second time found a hole in hose that comes out of the gas tank and repaired it. Upon the third time with new dealer occurring 12/01/2010, we are told there is a crack in the nipple of the gas tank and want to replace the gas tank. I feel recourse from the manufacturer is due since obviously the problem existed upon purchase of the new vehicle.

63 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/30/2004

Fuel spillage just after auto shutoff on gas pump on my 03 chevy Trailblazer. This seems to happen almost everytime I fill the tank. I see and have heard this is a common problem and I believe this is potentially very dangerous.

64 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/11/2004

2003 chevy Trailblazer LS- when filling up the gas tank with a full tank, gas spills out of the gas tank's fill pipe. This backwash happens everytime and occurs right after gas nozzle shuts off regardless of gas station that is used. It has been occurring ever since I bought the vehicle in July 03. I estimate 12+ occurrences.

65 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Within seconds of filling the fuel tank, fuel splashed back out of the fuel tank filler neck.

66 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/26/2003

While fueling verhicle, fuel always spills over just before or after auto-shutoff of gas pump. This happens even though I'm careful that it's coming close to a full tank and prepare for the spillage. Today it happened at a pump where the fuel pump nozzle was of a non-accordian type boot. I've spoken with others who have the same problem and dealers are telling them to be more careful when re-fueling. What will it take gm to admit there's a design flaw in the fuel delivery system? this is only one of many issues with the Trailblazer. You'd think for what they cost that they'd be built better.

67 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/05/2003

Gas filler tube overflows on to the ground almost every time the vehicle is filled up with gas. Has done this since purchase. Tested different gas stations pumps thinking that was the cause but it does this at all of them about a second or so after the pump clicks off. Also the filler tube boot has a built in hole for the gas to drain on to the ground. . . . Which ( on the better side I guess) does keep it from getting on the side of the vehicle on occasion.

68 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/18/2003

New vehicle delivered with dangerous factory defect: gas filler tube has crack- allows fuel to spill out during fueling of vehicle. Dealership does not have part on hand for repair.

69 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer
