1 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

When going at low speeds and/or dle the power steering completely goes out. This makes turns and parking very dangerous. The fluid is full and there is no noise from the power steering itself. At higher speeds it operates normally. When I first noticed it we were on vacation had been driving approx 6 hours at about 70mph. When coming out of the mountains I slowed down dramatically for a tight right curve and found that I had absolutely no power steering. We stopped immediately and checked the fluid. Fluid was full. Problem persisted at low speed, turns and parking. Haven't noticed any noise or other problems. I see there is a extended service for some 2010 Traverse for this problem but apparently mine is not included. If this is such a big problem I believe the extended coverage needs to be extended. This could have easily caused a major accident.

2 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

Multiple problems with power steering. 9/30/2010 brought vehicle in for grinding noise & vibration, gear box assembly indicated as problem, replaced steering gear. 10/12/11- noise when turning: replaced spring & rack, 10/18/11 vibration when turning, power steering pump determined as culprit , replaced pump; 5/17/12 steering making grinding noise, no fluid. . . Replaced power steering fluid; 5/19/2012 grinding noise when turning wheel, again no fluid, inlet clamp loose, resecured & added fluid again, 6/22/2016, intermittently when go to turn power steering like a manual steering, no power steering fluid, checked, powering steering pump & steering gear determined to be cause, $ 464 for repairs! if my younger driving age children were driving, would have caused an accident.

3 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2014

I have a 2010 chevy Traverse which has a problem with the power steering components. Chevrolet has issued a recall on the cheap part, the power steering pump but does not cover the expensive part of the defect which is the rack and pinion/steering gear. Why, because they don't care if people crash and they make more money with the steering gear in repair work. If you own a Traverse and hear the whining noise from the steering wheel don't let the dealer tell you its no big deal. Make them change the power steering pump and the rack and pinion before you lose steering control like everyone else with a Traverse. Even better, don't buy a chevy. Now that I am aware of this issue and know that basically it cant be fixed with the Traverse and they aren't being forced to fix it, I will not have my wife drive this car with kids in it even though I just paid $1400 to have a repair that will not last.

4 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

Increasing noise in steering column associated with turning the car. Chevy service man said I needed a new steering gear and pump.

5 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2014

I bought this vehicle in 2012 and the steering column has always made a weird noise. In September of 2014 while driving with my 1 and 2 year old daughters in the vehicle the power steering went out altogether. I got the power steering pump replaced the following day. However, this was just a short, temporary fix (about a week). The steering column makes even a louder and greater noise but the power steering comes and goes. It is very stiff all of the time. Makes driving a real chore, especially when you live way out of time on curvy back roads. It's only a matter of time before an accident occurs because the steering will be fine for a minute then you go to turn and it vanishes and you have to pull on the steering wheel to get it to turn. This is not safe for myself, family, or others on the road. I see many others have had similar issues. I do not like the fact that I have to worry every time I get behind the wheel by myself or with my children in the car if I am going to make it somewhere safely. Please help me with this issue.

6 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

Our Traverse has a groaning noise coming from the steering column at slow speeds. I had the dealership diagnose the problem. They came back telling me it needed a new steering rack because it will get worse and possibly I will loose my power steering entirely without warning. In doing some research and visiting with repair shops it is evident that this is a recurring issue and needs to be resolved by gm with a safety recall. Gm has since redesigned the defect for newer model cars. I can only hope this gets resolved soon before there is serious injury.

7 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated when making a left or right turn, an abnormal noise emitted from the steering wheel. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician stated that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000. Pam.

8 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2014

Strayed hearing a humming noise from the steering column that changed as acceleration changed, then started having trouble steering in a turn at slow speeds, could feel a tightness in the steering column. Took to the dealer who stated it is a leak in the rack & pinion apparatus and will cost $1900 to repair. They reported that it is commonly needed at 60-80,000 miles (my vehicle has 70,000). I am hoping this will fix the problem but after reading others complaints, I am worried it will still be unsafe to drive. I do feel gm should respond to these common issues and repair their faulty vehicles before someone gets hurt.

9 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a noise coming from the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,664. Oo.

10 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph and making a right turn, there was an abnormal noise coming from the steering wheel. In addition, the brakes made an abnormal noise and excessive force was applied to the brake pedal in order to slow down or stop the vehicle. The failure occurred on two separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering intermediate shaft and vacuum brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 53,470.

11 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

Since October of 2013 I have been having issues with my power steering locking up or becoming so tight while trying to turn at slow speeds that I have to force a turn. I have take it to my dealership to have it looked at after reading the numerous complaints for the same issues. I was told that I would need a new pump and rack pinion steering, which was told it would cost me $1300 and is not covered under the power terrain!!!! I was also told there have been numerous complaints on the power steering making noises, in which Chevrolet replaced the power steering in the 2012 and newer models and which research shows that there are virtually no complaints in the 2012 models. I have almost been in accidents because the steering would like up while turning in intersections!.

12 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

We have a 2010 Traverse and like many owners the power steering has quit working at slow speeds and is a safety hazard. It is impossible at slow speeds to turn the steering wheel. It is very bad when trying to park the car or even turn at red lights. This is something that numerous owners have had issues with and is a faulty system. It started with a small noise coming from the steering wheel then progressed to every once in a while not turning to now never working at slow speeds. If this was not a common problem with these cars then I would send it to mechanic to get fixed but since there are many cars effected and even a class action lawsuit over this issue it does not seem right to pay so much money for a car that is such a safety hazard. Please for all the adults and kids riding in these cars check into this issue and get gm to fix all their safety issues and not just a few select models. This system from my understanding uses some of the same technology that the safety recall in place on certain models.

13 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

I began to notice noise while steering and then difficulty steering, as though the power steering wasn't working. I had some previous undiagnosed leaks on the vehicle while under warranty, but those were never resolved. When I brought the vehicle in to have the steering checked, I was told I needed a repair that would cost $2000, and of course, it was no longer under warranty. I went to another auto shop who estimated a lower cost for the repair, the repair was made, and the difficulty steering began again. 24 hours after the supposed "fix", the car caught on fire after my husband pulled into a parking space. It was a total loss.

14 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2013

Steering makes a loud grinding noise and steering gear failure. Delay and binding up when trying to turn at low speeds. Dealer confirmed repair bulletin exists but general motors denied warranty repair. Found 40+ ntsb/NHTSA issues with Chevrolet Traverse steering. This is a safety concern affecting the steering ability of the vehicle. New steering gear, housing, hoses, and fluid change to dexron is required. I need help please!.

15 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2013

For months and months I heard a noise from the steering section. . . Like it needed oil. We checked the fluid and noticed it was low. We have to repeat the fluid every month or so. I was driving and all of a sudden my steering became stuck. Now I need $1000+ repairs for a vehicle that is only 3 years old w/ 40,000 miles. This is unfair.

16 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2012

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that when making a turn at low speeds, the power steering made a loud noise and the vehicle stalled. The dealer was made aware of the failure who advised the contact to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 44,000 and the current mileage was 45,000.

17 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2011

My truck kept making clicking noises and the power steering kept feeling stiff. It continuously made noise when turning the wheels.

18 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2010

Vehicle has always had a rubbing noise coming from the steering column. I have complained multiple times over the 4 years that I have owned the vehicle. Dealer has made minor adjustments to the base of the column and also changed the steering gear. The problem has come back with increasing effort to steer the car. Now the dealership states the car is not under warranty and 12 months have elapsed since the replacement.
