My 2018 Traverse has had several issues the past few years such as the electrical components in the car turning on and off randomly, a shift to park message which has been fixed twice, and the most current problem is the transmission. I was out of town 160 miles away with my family of 6 and we were about to drive home when the engine started to sound forced while I was driving. It wouldn't go past 30 mph and I had to quickly and safely get off the road and look for a mechanic. Had we already gotten on the freeway my family would have been in much more danger. After driving cautiously to 2 mechanics they referred us to a transmission service location. We had to leave the car there for several hours and came to find out that the transmission needed to be replaced and it would cost anywhere between $4,000-$9,000 depending on if they try to fix our transmission or replace it with another transmission and the cost would depend on the warranty years. We ended up getting it towed home so that our local mechanic can take a look at it. We still haven't gotten it fixed because the repair cost is so high and we can't afford it. For being a 2018 and only having 65,000 miles we should not be having transmission issues. We also took it in to our local chevy service dealer who confirmed the transmission needs to be repaired or replaced and an accurate cost is unknown until they open it but the first estimate was $10,000. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I did see there was a recall for transmission issues for this make and model but it doesn't come up for my VIN. I really hope that Chevrolet can apply the recall to all VIN numbers affected because it is a very costly repair and has put my families safety at risk. It should not keep happening to others.

This has happened two times. Driving down the road between 35-55mph. "speed limited drive with care" no cel. Took to dealer, advised with a cel or no codes nothing they could do for it. Multiple nights I get home and the fan stays running after engine shutdown. Engine overheat within 10 min of drive time. Oil smells like fuel. This time engine throttles back and nearly caused accident with not being able to merge.

Burning oil. There is something wrong. I took it to the dealership I still have warranty I really think this needs to be looked into.

Vehicle: 2023 Chevrolet Traverse the vehicle has a recurring safety-critical defect. The steering assist becomes reduced while driving and the dashboard displays the warning message “steering assist reduced – drive with care. ” at the same time, multiple safety systems such as collision-avoidance functions become disabled. This failure is persistent and creates unsafe driving conditions. The vehicle has previously experienced electrical and fuel-system related issues, including fault codes such as p2635, p0e32 and p0e37. There have been multiple warranty repair attempts, but the defect continues. The warning remains active while driving and the vehicle may lose steering assist, causing unpredictable steering effort. This presents a serious safety concern for the driver and public. The vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty. I am requesting review of this recurring safety defect affecting steering assist and active safety systems. While driving, the vehicle repeatedly displays the warning “steering assist reduced – drive with care,” and multiple safety systems become disabled, including collision-avoidance functions. The steering effort changes and the vehicle becomes unpredictable. This is a recurring safety-critical defect. The vehicle has also experienced electrical and fuel-system related faults, including codes p2635, p0e32 and p0e37. Warranty repairs have been attempted several times, but the defect continues to occur. This failure places the driver and others at risk because steering assist may be reduced while the vehicle is moving, and safety systems deactivate unexpectedly. The vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty and remains available for inspection. I am requesting review of this recurring safety defect affecting steering assist, electrical stability, and active safety systems.

The shift to park started popping up randomly for a month now does it every time I try to turn my car off. I have to wiggle, push the button and more times than not I have to turn back on the car and move gears to see if that will help (which it doesn't). Super annoying.
The vehicle has been brought to an authorized dealership for numerous service visits related to electrical system issues that ultimately affected the braking system. During one service visit, the vehicle was returned to me with multiple active dashboard warning lights illuminated related to the braking system, including electronic stability control and automatic emergency braking. I questioned the presence of these warning at pickup and was advised by the dealer that the vehicle was safe to drive and that the warnings would clear on their own. After driving the vehicle for a short period, I became uncomfortable continuing to operate it with brake-related warning lights still active and returned it to the dealer. Upon further diagnosis by a service technician, it was discovered that the vehicle has significant brake system defects requiring replacement of major components, including the brake control module and master cylinder. During diagnosis, the brakes locked and the parking brake would not disengage, rendering the vehicle undrivable. No collision or injury occurred. However, the vehicle was released to me with active brake system warnings and later found to have serious brake defects. Due to the safety-critical nature of the braking system and the repeated electrical and brake-related service history, I am reporting this for documentation and review.
Had the whole ecm replaced as well as all wire harnesses inspected. Fuse box inspection and retighned. All fuses and relays checked. Ignition switch replacement as well. The code for p1682 went away months but has now returned. Also have replaced battery and few other minor items. The car will go into limp mode randomly on freeway or roads. Almost caused an accident since the power steering stops working as well.

Driving home - what looked like warning indicators on the dashboard, came on. Lost the ability to brake. Had to push the pedal all the way to the floor to get some braking to happen. A message came on the dashboard “brake assist failure. Press hard to brake. Speed limited”. Once we were able to stop. We turned the car off. Then turned it back on. We saw a message on the dashboard to “open the drivers door” and then “roll down the drivers window”. We did that and the car seemed to be normal again.
I got my 2024 Traverse little over a year ago. So far I had bring it in 3 times now first I got oil change and they told me something leaking from back so I went chevy and the transmission was leaken bolts wasn't put in all the way. Also my breaks said they was due I bring back to them they said its a sensor probelm they just turned it off. Now im back again horse is crack and they said I could come get the car and drive it that it would be fine just to keep checking collent. I got 38,000 miles.
Vehicle currently at dealership for esc, brake system and abs warning lights coming on. Unable to use cruise control once these lights came on.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The message "engine power reduced" was displayed. After waiting 20 minutes, the contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was diagnosed by the contact's friend, and it was determined that the clock spring had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 14v614000 (electrical system), but the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 195,000.
While driving my entire dashboard goes dark and once I shut my car off it did not start again. Brought it to the mechanic who is rated as 5 stars, to have no codes come up. He has been looking for the answer for over 5 months now. Car will start for a short time then do the same thing all over again. No clicking when turning the key, new battery put in, remote control module replaced and car still doesn’t start. I still owe on this car and have no idea what to do with it.

I have read several things about ebcm and the control power circuit being above threshold and wondering if this is a recall for this model? I am getting 3 error codes c0800, b1325, & u0151 for this vehicle. (general motors is recalling over 449,000 suvs and pickups (2023–2024 Cadillac escalade, chevy suburban/tahoe, GMC yukon, and select silverado/sierra 1500) due to a software fault in the electronic brake control module (ebcm) . This issue prevents the brake warning light from illuminating if brake fluid drops, increasing crash risk. ) it's showing the same issues as above.
The car has a "shift to park" error message. We noticed a recall for other 2018 Traverse vehicles and wonder why ours is not covered. Car will not shut down completely. Battery is drained. Dealer is requesting $767. 43 to repair when other GMC/chevy vehicles are identified in a recall.
Brake assistance failure. Brakes failed! esc service I was able to set it up for inspection could of caused a accident hurting other people or hurting my family, I use this vehicle to transport my 2 babies vehicle would not brake properly could have cause serious injuries for my vehicle not yet has not been inspected it was towed, from what I have heard from current Traverse owners they have experienced this same issue with even lower milage no warning lights no indications of failure just happend instant twice.
After shifting from drive or other gear to park, vehicle will not register vehicle is in the "park" gear. Vehicle is in the "park" gear and will not move but is not turning off. "shift to park" is displayed on the display. Vehicle will not shutdown the display system and keeps beeping. The issues worsens over time and continues to drain the battery. The vehicle is kept on.
I own a 2025 GMC Traverse purchased in July 2025. The vehicle is experiencing ongoing electrical system issues. The gps and onstar systems are inoperative, including vehicle location services. The vehicle cannot connect to onstar or detect a WI-fi connection. In addition, the adaptive cruise control is not functioning properly. These systems have been inoperative for approximately 4 weeks. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and I was informed that parts are required, but no repair timeline has been provided. The loss of gps, onstar emergency services, and adaptive cruise control presents a safety concern, as emergency response, vehicle tracking, and driver assistance features are unavailable while driving. The issue remains unresolved.
A car approached my blind spot and the blind spot detection did not alert. I tried to change lanes assuming the system was functioning and nearly ran someone off the road. Shortly after this the “service blind spot detection light” came on. Following this failure the vehicle telematics went out rendering the paid on star safety system useless. Parts to remedy the issue on indefinite back order per gm on 12/8/25.
While driving the steering wheel will intermittently lock up or make it where you cannot turn the steering wheel at all. The collision sensors will go off and cause vehicle to lock the brakes up when you’re not even close to anything. Also, random messages will appear in dash as shift to neutral while driving ect. See pictures.
Brake booster failure, master brake cylinder failure.
I am getting a shift to park error code on dashboard. The shifter gear is in park but the vehicle will not turn off. I have called the dealer several times and they are told the problem but eventually they hang up on me. There seems to be a class action suit out for the issue but no recall. I would like to see recall because this is a serious safety issue. One if the vehicle does not completely turn off and you are not aware of the issue then your battery can run out. If you are in a urban/remote area which I am no dealerships for about 50 miles away can be a serious problem being stranded on the I 15 freeway. When you put the vehicle in park sometimes it pops out of gear too. There were no previous warnings prior to the shift to park dash indicator. I am not a rich person. My vehicle just has over 72,000 miles. This should be covered by a recall. Please help.
Won’t go into drive or reverse at time. Auto brake initiates automatically and car will come to complete stop with no other vehicles in front of my vehicle. Dash will freeze. Service engineer, service emergency calling, service engine, calls on star.
The chevy suffers from the "shift to park" issue due to a faulty park switch in the shifter assembly, which is an electrical issue. Apparently gm does not cover this repair but it is dangerous as the car does not shut off even when engine is off and the gear is in park.
Telematic control module failed. Vehicle has 7k miles on it and brand new. Still under bumper to bumper warranty. Dealership diagnosed the emergency services /navigation system failure and ordered the part which is on significant backorder to due to nationwide shortage. No eta for repair. Problem occurred oct 25, 2025. This needs to be a recall. Dealership not providing suitable and comparable loaner due to not having 3 row available. Stating enterprise does not have one. Put me on waiting list for suitable loaner. Escalated to gm customer care, gm customer care supervisor, gm executive resolution, dealership supervisor with no immediate solution. Will be filing lemon law case.
Shift to park errors over multiple years, shutter when accelerating. Now pressure control solenoid code vehicle will not go in reverse or shift out of first gear. Transmission needs replacement. This is my family vehicle, I have 3 small children and it has turned off at stop lights etc. My families safety has been jeopardized many times driving this vehicle, especially the last time in particular. The vehicle stopped engaging in reverse and then in first would accelarate by itself on the way home from my 8 year olds baseball game.
Shift to park. Unable to turn the car off even though the car is in park. This was previously fixed in 10/24 and started up in 10/25 a few days after the 1yr warranty. I reached out to the dealership that repaired it in 2024 and was told that I would have to pay for the service as the part is not covered under the powertrain warranty. I reached out to gm for assistance and that was a lost cause. I was told that the repairs will only last 1 to 2 yrs, so this appears that it will be a temporary fix. My car has about 55000 miles on it. To know that I may possibly have to continue to get this fixed, I feel like this should be considered a lemon and they should refund me for the cost of the vehicle or give me another car. Gm knows that the shift to park is an ongoing issue with this year, make, model and have failed to issue a recall.
Shift to park notice. For several months the shifter has had issues going into park. The shifter is in the park position but isnt reading. I know a few other people with similar Traverse models in my area having the same issue. Im also aware that some models of gm SUV have already recalled this part. After having to wait over 5 minutes multiple times for the car to recognize that its in the park position I decided to get this replaced. This is an issue I believe a recall should be noticed and I should be reimbursed for the parts and labor of this.

Our Traverse spontaneously caught fire.
Transmission went out does not move at all with only 49,000 miles on the car the car always had sifting problems. Brought the car brand new off the lot. One owner. Before the transmission went out when I will stop at the red lights or stop signs the car would just take off for no reason. With my foot still on the brakes or the car would just stall when I am driving it right in the middle of traffic. GMC needs to held accountable before some one gets killed. ??????.
The master cylinder and abs braking system failed, rendering the vehicle inoperable and leaving my family stranded approximately 285 miles from home. This represents a serious safety defect, as the braking system malfunctioned while the vehicle was in operation. The dealership has confirmed the issue, and the vehicle has remained in their possession for over two weeks awaiting parts and repair. During the failure, multiple warning indicators illuminated, including the abs, service esc, and brake system lights. Once the brake system engaged, I was unable to release it or drive the vehicle any further.
Received a "service battery charging system" dash warning message driving down the highway. Made it home and changed the battery but the issue persists and I can't drive the car. Reading online many complaints/problems with alternator and electrical premature failures. Car is a little more than 4 years old and has only 23,600 miles. Getting the car to the chevy dealer tomorrow to diagnose problem and fix. If car were to stall out at highway speeds it could be very dangerous. This problem should receive further investigation by NHTSA. Shouldn't have electrical failures on cars with 23,000 miles.

Shift to park error, car will not go into park. A well known gm issue that apparently has yet to be recalled.
