Electrical System Problems of Chevrolet Traverse - part 2

Shift to park errors over multiple years, shutter when accelerating. Now pressure control solenoid code vehicle will not go in reverse or shift out of first gear. Transmission needs replacement. This is my family vehicle, I have 3 small children and it has turned off at stop lights etc. My families safety has been jeopardized many times driving this vehicle, especially the last time in particular. The vehicle stopped engaging in reverse and then in first would accelarate by itself on the way home from my 8 year olds baseball game.

Shift to park notice. For several months the shifter has had issues going into park. The shifter is in the park position but isnt reading. I know a few other people with similar Traverse models in my area having the same issue. Im also aware that some models of gm SUV have already recalled this part. After having to wait over 5 minutes multiple times for the car to recognize that its in the park position I decided to get this replaced. This is an issue I believe a recall should be noticed and I should be reimbursed for the parts and labor of this.

Transmission went out does not move at all with only 49,000 miles on the car the car always had sifting problems. Brought the car brand new off the lot. One owner. Before the transmission went out when I will stop at the red lights or stop signs the car would just take off for no reason. With my foot still on the brakes or the car would just stall when I am driving it right in the middle of traffic. GMC needs to held accountable before some one gets killed. ??????.

The master cylinder and abs braking system failed, rendering the vehicle inoperable and leaving my family stranded approximately 285 miles from home. This represents a serious safety defect, as the braking system malfunctioned while the vehicle was in operation. The dealership has confirmed the issue, and the vehicle has remained in their possession for over two weeks awaiting parts and repair. During the failure, multiple warning indicators illuminated, including the abs, service esc, and brake system lights. Once the brake system engaged, I was unable to release it or drive the vehicle any further.

Received a "service battery charging system" dash warning message driving down the highway. Made it home and changed the battery but the issue persists and I can't drive the car. Reading online many complaints/problems with alternator and electrical premature failures. Car is a little more than 4 years old and has only 23,600 miles. Getting the car to the chevy dealer tomorrow to diagnose problem and fix. If car were to stall out at highway speeds it could be very dangerous. This problem should receive further investigation by NHTSA. Shouldn't have electrical failures on cars with 23,000 miles.

Shift to park error, car will not go into park. A well known gm issue that apparently has yet to be recalled.

All connected services do not work. The car cannot receive any updates to software/hardware posing potential safety issues. There was no warning. They all just stopped working. The vehicle was brought to the dealer in the beginning of October 2025 and I still do not have a fix or solution or potential timeline.

My car has twice been fixed with this shift to park message and now it is in the shop once again to be fixed!! and this has also had the torque converter fixed twice now. And it is still doing the same issues. This needs to be something that chevy is replacing. I am a single mother and can’t afford all these problems and yet I keep having to make a car payment and get these things fixed.

Initially, the engine would intermittently fail to start and at times would not start at all. I took the vehicle to a certified Chevrolet service center, where the battery was tested and found to be functioning properly. They later concluded that a faulty front-view camera was disrupting the electrical system and ordered a replacement (my first visit was Friday, 9/26/25). I took the car home for the weekend due to family obligations. On Monday, 9/29, while driving back to the service center, the engine suddenly shut off on a local road. The brakes went completely to the floor for 3–5 seconds before the engine restarted—just before I nearly collided with another vehicle at a red light. I reported this immediately, and the dealership kept the car for further testing. On Thursday, 10/2, they informed me they found no additional issues and believed the camera was the root cause. However, the problem persisted. On Sunday, 10/5, while stopped at a red light at hawthorn st. And memorial dr. , the engine shut off again as I began to accelerate. The brakes sank to the floor, and I had no steering control for approximately 5–7 seconds before the vehicle restarted. My wife and I were extremely shaken, especially with our children in the car. On Monday, 10/6, we contacted roadside assistance to tow the vehicle back to the service center. After additional testing, we were informed that the battery had failed this time and was replaced. However, replacing the battery does not reassure us that the engine and braking system will not fail again while driving, or the brake failure would happen again when the battery is low - which poses a serious safety risk to our family. When my wife called gm to report this issue, all they offered was 200 points worth of rewards. . . . We originally bought this car for safety, but not this has been compromised and we no longer feel safe. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Service esc & brake assist lights came on after only 4 months with the vehicle. The vehicle also abruptly slammed on the automatic brakes when backing into a parking spot with no obstacle present prior to the service lights indicating any issues. The vehicle was diagnosed with a failed brake master cylinder nearly two weeks ago, but the part is still on national backorder and will be stuck at the dealership for an undetermined amount of time with no loaners available. There are plenty other accounts of this same issue happening to other newly-bought '25 Traverses, and the n242482170 bulletin related to the '24 model hints at this being a recurring issue. This safety issue on a brand new vehicle without recognition/resolve is unacceptable.

The whole dashboard lit up with break and park indicator lit up in red on dashboard. Warning flashed about automatic break system failure and esc warning.

Shift to park sensor refusing to acknowledge that car is in park and will not allow car shut off.

Several alerts came on, including abs light, service esc, service brake assist, adaptive cruise control unavailable. Blind spot alert stopped working. Dealership reset everything but the issue came back within a few hours. They said it may have something to do with the brake system.

Dashboard started showing brake assist and esc needed service. Four lights lit brake, abs, traction, and collision.

Around 65,000 miles I started to get a "shift to park" message when I tried to turn off the engine. The car was already in park. This is continuing to happen. I see that it has been an issue on this model since 2016. There needs to be a recall on this issue. You need to be able to turn off your car. Service bulletins have been sent out but no recall.

Master cylinder went out with only 5400 miles.

The vehicle stalls while driving at any speed. It has left me on the highway or the middle of an intersection with myself & my kids in danger. The check engine light comes on before the vehicle shuts off completely & loses power & steering. The traction control & stability warning also come on. The vehicle has rolled backwards while in park numerous times so I have to use the parking brake on a regular basis as a safety precaution. The power steering is also an issue. The driver seat belt & air bags make this car a rolling death trap. There are past recalls or safety concerns for the Traverse that are the exact same issue that I’m having but they are not specific to my VIN number so the dealership refuses to address them! is 7 recalls & they all apply to this vehicle! I’ve attempted to have the vehicle repaired multiple times & they have failed & the same problem returns. I just want my vehicle to be safe & not put myself or my family in danger of being injured or killed.

Frequent symptom is an "action required: shift to park" message on the dashboard. Which is preventing my vehicle from shutting down properly, and causing the battery to drain, and hinder my car's ability to start in addition to getting trapped in the vehicle because the vehicles fail to shift to the ‘park’ position preventing me from being able to exit the vehicle. This is a known issue affecting various gm models which one being my 2018 Traverse by gm but not willing to make official recall of the issue. There is a class action settlement due to this issue that was not privileged to me as an owner of a used vehicle included in this notice and have.

I was taking my daughter to school; we were about 5 minutes from our home. I came up to a red light and stopped no problem, it turned green and as I proceeded through the intersection to the next red light to make my left-hand turn to get on the freeway, my rearview mirror camara flickered and that was my first indication that something was wrong. After that the ac started turning on and off and my dash lights all started lighting up. Fortunately, I was only going about 15-20 mph, so I was able to get the car to stop without incident. I had a few seconds to decide what to do, I determined that making a u-turn when the light turned green was the safest option, that's when I realized I had no power steering. I was able to safely get the car back to my driveway and called a tow truck. The car is now at jk Chevrolet nederland, TX and now waiting to hear diagnostic.

After fueling car the starting continue turning over after you release button. Now while drivering it hesitate sometime loose power steering. And when stopped and the car dies when it does it’s stop /start now there a delay in continuing on and now brake light come on when it start back. Sometimes lose power and if you disconnect cable to let car reset light goes off until the start/stop and repeats process with park light back on ect.

Right rear brake light and turn signal are not operating, making an unsafe driving condition. Vehicle taken to dealership and parts on back order preventing unsafe condition to be corrected.

The infotainment center went black. No sound in vehicle, no back up camera, no radio.

I purchased a 2025 chevy Traverse in April 2025. The car had under 1056 miles on it. I was in another state 325 miles away from home when lights came on in the car. The park brake came on, the abs light came on and a few others. The alert said, service esc, and service brake assist. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? we did research online and there were 33 other complaints from people with similar complaints. They reported that it was a master cylinder part and the dealers don’t have the part in stock. It could take up to two weeks for the part. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? my safety and my husband’s safety were at risk because we had to drive the car home. Our lives were at risk if the brakes failed. We took it to key motors a chevy dealership in s. Burlington, vt. He said they would have to diagnose it themselves and the part could take two weeks or more. We cut our vacation short and could not stay in vt that long. We are elderly and did not have enough medicine, not to mention the cost of hotels. The vt dealer said without the computer, the car defaults to the driver like a 1980’s car. We took our chances and drove it home. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no, but many people online have complained of the same problem. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? we had it towed to our local dealership, bob johnson Chevrolet. They just sent us a bill for $214 for certified multi point vehicle inspection. I still don’t know what problem. Onstar diagnosed it as abs braking and stability diagnostic code; an issue has been detected in the antilock braking system. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no other warnings or symptoms before messages appeared.

The alternator failed randomly while driving down the road. The vehicle only has 26500 miles. There was no lights on prior to the car stalling. When it failed my whole car started to flash every warning at the screen to me. My car then stopped working and I barely was able to coast into a parking lot. Luckily I was not on the highway and no one was behind me when the car stopped working. The problem was confirmed by the dealer it was the alternator. What sucks though is that the alternator killed the battery. The battery is not covered by warranty so it is $507 to replace a battery.

Radio screen went black and back up camera not working. No chimes or turn signal not making sound.

White smoke was coming out the car and my car eventually sat on fire. I had to call the fire department. . Fire department stated that it was a electrical issue.

On [xxx], onstar did an auto unlock on my car. After the car was opened, the entire radio panel didn’t work. On June 13th, bob johnson replaced the onstar telecommunications module. Only the radio worked with the screen black for a couple of minutes. Then it stopped working. They stated that they ordered the part, but every time I call, they haven’t. When I put my car in park and turn it off I get an error message that I need to "shift to park". It shows in the dash that it is in park but my radio, and lights stay on. I have to restart my car and put it in park, reverse, or neutral and try to put it in park again. I takes several try's to make the error message go away.

On July 31st, while backing up on a clear road in rain the brakes locked suddenly. The brakes applied & a message saying emergency parking brake engaged. Must be manually released. This happened twice in a 30 second period before there was enough room for me to pull forward out of the spot. I called the dealership on August 1st to see if this was a known issue and they said no. Brought the car in on August 2nd. They scanned for errors & found a message lost communication with parking assist control module with 9 other error message. They said this was not a known problem and to them it appeared to fix itself but would let me know if there was any way to fix. Car has just been in for regular multi point inspection on July 24th. On August 20th went to get in the car but none of the key fobs would open it. Called two dealerships but neither could come up with answer. Chevy roadside was called & came to get into the car and ended up jumping it. At that time the battery was tested and it appeared fine. It was recommended to run it for a half hour. I ended up driving it for an hour with no extras on. On August 25th the next day I went to drive it the battery of this 1 year old car was dead. Called the two dealerships to see what could be done & was told to bring it in. Called chevy roadside assistance who dispatched someone to open the car and jump the battery. This person found the battery was not holding a charge & said nothing when I said I was driving it to the dealership. Got 3 houses away & a message that the brakes have failed. Press hard to brake popped up. In addition the steering locked up. I missed hitting a lady with a kid in a stroller by 6 ft but managed to get it to the curve & with 3 pushes into park. It was towed to the dealership. When it arrived at the dealership the brakes locked up so it would not back up off the flatbed. It had to be forced off. Dealer blames poor battery but can't explain July 31st or why battery readouts say okay.

Radio went blank unable to access screen. Not sure reason. Upon start up couldn’t access any parts of radio. Couldn’t reset and issue still current as of today.

I star failed and I could not use any of my lane assist. All features quit working that were to help me with other cars approaching failed. Radio quit work it working. Battery in car needed to be replaced and car needed to be jumped started. Curse control did not work. Had less than 2000 miles on car. Safety features in car quit working.

I was driving and the vehicle lost since power, I was unable to roll down the windows. And then the car just stalled. Luckily I was aware of it stalling so I pulled over in a residential area and came aaa. They sent out a battery service technician, he read the battery, the battery was ok but the alternator had low voltage. (picture attached) so they recommend not to drive it and so I had to call for a tow truck to come. We bought a battery charger, it charges up to 12 but when we put it into drive it drops back down to 10 and that's when everything shuts off and the car dies.

On [xxx], my 2019 Chevrolet Traverse (VIN [xxx] ) experienced a complete transmission failure. The vehicle began to hesitate, jerk during acceleration, and then completely lost the ability to shift or drive. It had to be towed, and the dealership confirmed that the transmission must be replaced. This is extremely concerning because gm previously issued recall 20v668000 involving missing bolts in the start-stop accumulator of the transmission, which can cause fluid leaks and loss of propulsion—a potential safety hazard. Although my VIN does not show this recall as active, the symptoms and failure seem directly related to this known defect. I am requesting NHTSA investigate whether this recall should be expanded or reopened to include more affected vehicles. In addition to the transmission failure, I have had to replace the purge solenoid valve three times due to persistent check engine lights and fuel system issues, which suggests deeper reliability issues with emissions and vapor management. Lastly, there is now a hole in the exhaust pipe, which is affecting performance and may pose a safety or environmental concern due to potential carbon monoxide exposure. These multiple powertrain and emissions-related failures within the same vehicle raise serious concerns about the long-term safety, reliability, and manufacturing quality of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. Parked the vehicle a Saturday evening went to get into it Sunday morning and the dash was lit up with abs light, service esc, traction control, check engine light. Called the dealership I bought it from to tell them what was going on, brought it in on a Monday evening to be looked at Thursday. Was called to be informed the master cylinder went bad. Was told by the service manger part would be in to be fixed Wednesday. Wednesday came and gone with no call, finally got a call Thursday evening that the part did not arrive and now they have no eta on the part.
