I was driving my 2010 Chevrolet Traverse lt on the freeway, when with no warnings at all. The engine shut off at 67 mph in mid heavy traffic. I pointed her to the center divider since I was in the fast lane. We came to a halt and I wasn't all the way out of traffic. I got it home to my mechanic and he said he had no idea what happened at all to her, since I had just had her serviced and was told she was ready to travel. My mechanic was dumb founded and showed me just in the last year this has happened to many driver's with my same car. And mine was just serviced and a new starter put is, as well as the timing belt looked over. Oil changed, transmission looked at, new catalytic converters valves cleaned, plugs replaced, and fast tank and lines purged and cleaned.

I purchased this car a month ago, didn't see any check engine light, but I now it is and it is a code related to the timing belts, it seems the car still work ok but sometimes starts shaking a litle. So I see there is a lot of complains about the same problem, I hope Chevrolet has a recall to solve this issue, becouse this is a very high cost repair.

I bought this car used with 80,000 miles on it. A week after purchasing it I took it back to the dealership due to a burning oil smell and was told it was "normal Traverse smell". The smell kept getting worse but everywhere I took it they said it was normal. I have had the car for two years now and after taking it to a local mechanic, not a gm or chevy mechanic, we were told it needs the timing belt replaced so we had that done. The burning oil smell never went away so I took it back and he found that the timing belt needs replaced after two months because a brass ring that was supposed to be replaced wasn't. This brass ring was never on the recall list so the previous owners knew nothing about it. Chevy knows they have a problem with this engine but they won't replace them. I am not stuck with a pile of junk that needs a new engine all because chevy won't own up to their failure. Why not recall the brass ring instead of expecting people to fork out $6,000 for a new engine?.

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle seized and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. The contact had the vehicle towed by aaa to baierl Chevrolet (10430 perry hwy, wexford, PA 15090, (877) 217-0160) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain belt failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 81,331.
At 90,000 miles I was driving and the vehicle just shut down. Loss of power steering, brakes locked up, engine died. Brought it home replaced battery and serpentine belt. Attempted to start, and took several tries. Once running there was a horrific loud knock coming from the engine. Towed to a mechanic who reported the engine would "throw a rod any time now" and that having looked the vehicle over it was no fault of my own. Fluids were all fresh and full, no debris in oil, no reason for failure. I'm now stuck with a loan on a car that failed way before industry standards. Do your job gm and help out your customers! I have heard of many other Traverse models in this year range having the same issue!.
**timing belt recall** I was driving my vehicle on the local parkway and it lost power while I was driving it then started riding rough as if the tires were wobbling then I went to make a left turn and it started making a reeving noise during the turn. I had the car towed to the auto shop and I was told there was no oil leaks but the oil was low and also I had to replace the timing chain on my vehicle.
Was driving on the freeway when a I heard a bang noise from the engine. Engine completely died, no warning signs nothing. Mechanic looked at it, the engine locked and told me it was the timing belt and it gave out, and I need to replace the engine completely. Looked online there has been similar cases and gm is doing nothing about it. Now I'm looking at $7,880 to get the car running. The value of the car is over 8k mechanic said its a total lost because its about what the car is valued. Very disappointing, have had a lot of trouble with this car.

Was driving home from work engine made a ticking sound then knocked a little upon acceleration, no lights came on and I was within a 1/2 mile to my home so I kept driving. Car died as I pulled into driveway, had I been on the street I would not have been able to pull over as there was no warning. I took it to the dealer who said the timing belt went out and ruined the engine, total cost for new engine $7250 and despite other years and VIN numbers being recalled they refused to cover my vehicle that only has 52,000 miles. Mechanic all but admitted it was a flaw and told me to save my receipt. I asked him if the only way chevy will cover it is if someone gets killed, or if enough people complain and he said yes. Why not be honest about it and stand behind their product? now I'm scared even with a new engine it could happen again, only I might not be lucky enough to be in my driveway.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated one week after the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the timing belt was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 117,000.
We were doing normal driving around town when the check engine light came on and the vehicle started running very rough. We were able to drive slowly and get the vehicle home. The engine started making a knocking sound. We took the car to a Chevrolet dealer to be looked at. The dealer said the timing chain and pistons were out and they recommended replacing the motor. They said they had seen this before on the Traverse and wouldn't know for sure until they took the engine apart but that was what the diagnostics were showing. We towed the car to another shop to get a second opinion. They also stated the pistons and bearings were bad, the timing belt was bad and they would know more if they took it apart. They also recommended replacing the motor because of the extent of the damage. We replaced the engine. The vehicle had 108,000 miles at the time of the engine failure.
I took my car in for motor light and oil change. I was advised that my timing chain was some wear and needs changing. I was told by a mechanic that these cars have this problem all the time and a recall should have been issued on them. It was for the 2009, but a lot of the 2010 had the same chain and issue as the 2009. Of course the dealer is not gong to agree to anything. They are telling me its 2800, just to change the belt as precaution. This is price gouging when they know it's an issue. I need help. . .
Our 2010 Traverse has just over 91,000 miles on it. We took our vehicle to a local gm dealer to have a check engine light diagnosed. The dealer came back and informed me we needed to have our timing belts replaced and would cost at least $3000 to repair. The more I dug into this diagnosis, I've come across numerous posts from other '09-'10 owners with the same issue. Some had experienced sudden loss in power while traveling at highway speeds and others hadn't even had a check engine light come on. There were some owners that had to have these items replaced at around 60,000mi. I have reached out to gm and they informed me that there is nothing they can do to help alleviate this cost, nor are they in a position to issue a recall. They also informed me that we missed the 'warranty period' by a year and a half and that there are no 'special bulletins' related to my vehicle. I asked if they had an increase in other calls about this same issue and they denied any knowing of this. My dealership told me that they are seeing such an increase in this issue that they keep an inventory of parts on hand and they perform at least 3 timing chain repairs a week. I'm fortunate that our dealership is working with us on doing what they can to alleviate some of the cost, but gm is not doing anything on their end to acknowledge there is a potential problem or willing to help out.
As soon as my vehicle reached just over 102,000 miles, my engine completely shut down while we were driving our kids to practice. I have taken it to the chevy dealership that has been repairing my vehicle since we purchased it (1. 5 years prior to the engine shutting down) and they have informed us we need a completely new engine because the crankshaft is completely blown. When they finally got it started up, it sounded like a bag of hammers being violently shaken. In the 1. 5 years that we have had the vehicle, the timing belt has gone out, an electrical issue that caused the car to shut down completely as well, and another repair that my husband handled shortly after we got the car. Chevy has told us we are out of luck and that we have to pay for a new engine. When the dealership checked the value of the vehicle because we were going to try to trade it in, they told us the car, in perfect working condition would only be worth $6,000. 00, even though 1. 5 years prior, it was worth $20,000. The engine replacement is going to cost us more than the vehicle is worth! from what we have seen, a lot of these cars (same year make and model) are having the same problems and should be recalled completely!.

2011 Chevrolet Traverse rack and pinion leak and timing belt light came on. Car is well maintained, driven easy and has only 93000 miles on it. Gm says it is not covered. . .
The timing chain has stretched and the dealer says it will take 19 hours to change it. Auto mfg went to timing chains from rubber belts, so they don't have to change it. The warranty is for 5 yrs or 100,000 miles. This is a known issue and the warranty for this expensive job should be extended. Once the chain brakes, the car is done. The car makes noise and doesn't accelerate properly because of this issue. First noticed the check engine light on about 6 months or so ago. It wasn't until we broke down in canada that the dealer there said it was the timing chain when they replaced the throttle body.
I have had the power train repaired twice, once while under warranty, and then at cost. I have paid more than $2k on the repair and yet the check engine light stays on and a check of the error codes reveals the same problem. The vehicle has failed emissions testing as a result of the problem. I've seen numerous complaints on this site with the same issues. There's definitely a defect within this model year's engine system involving the power train. I am requesting an investigation and possible recall. I can't put out more money to fix a maintenance problem that will never be fixed. The car shakes as if it's idle when driving and the check engine light blinks off and on profusely. I'm afraid to drive it fearing something terrible will happen. The car was taken to waldorf Chevrolet. They are not cooperative with providing service details, one because they claim to have a new system. And they are not helpful with understanding why the power train continues to be an issue after they "repaired" it. I do have a copy of the repair documents it needed. Also, one set of seat belts in the second row have fallen apart on its own (meaning there were being used as designed and the fastener just crumbled).
I was on my way the chevy dealer to have the safety belt and airbag recall repairs completed on my 2011 Traverse. I had four children ages 12 and under in the car with me. After coming to a complete stop at an intersection I made a left hand turn into the inside traffic lane on a busy 5 lane road and began accelerate to the speed of traffic. As soon as I reached 40 mph, my speed quickly dropped to between 15 and 20 mph and the following warning messages showed up on my dash: reduced engine power, service stabilitrac and service traction control. Fortunately, I was able to merge back over to the right lane and then completely pull off the road into a parking lot without getting rear-ended by the cars behind me that were traveling at the speed limit. I turned the car off, then back on, and attempted to drive. The maximum rate of speed my car would reach was 20 mph, but I managed to drive it to the dealer taking back roads and subdivision roads. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a faulty throttle body. I did some research and discovered this is a well-known issue with these gm vehicles and a serious safety risk. After two days in the shop they completed the two recall related repairs without charge, but my cost to replace the throttle body and and reset the idle was $513. 00. I told the dealer that I was aware that this is a well-known and well-documented issue so I did not feel that I should be responsible for the repair costs, but they refused to cover any of the cost because no recall has been issued for this problem. I believe this problem should be investigated and gm should issue a recall. I am a frequent highway driver and if I had been merging onto the interstate this incident could have ended in tragedy.
On the highway doing around 65 mph, alarm chimes went off, display center showed "service stabilitrak", "service traction control", "engine power reduced". The car quickly decelerated to 10 mph and would not go any faster. Had to pull over and shut down. This was only one of the many times this has happened over the past year and a half. It has been in and out of the service center, diagnosed with 4 or 5 different issues, repaired 2 or 3 components all with the same outcome: the engine power reduced issue comes back. The dealer tells me it's a "new issue" every time so at this point I have no faith in their "fixes", I feel that when my wife, kids, or me are in the car I will eventually be in a horrific accident where we all die and hope that at least this message will come out then. Gm has been sort of helpful but from my research/dealings with this issue (30+ hours), it seems like something that should have been recalled on several different model gm automobiles. I am at a loss. I haven't fixed the most recent issue ($700, transmission internal mode switch) in hopes that, using my own research/technical expertise, I can find the real issue behind these failures and not just what the "computer error codes" are pointing too. The irony in this "feature" is that, from my understanding, it goes into this engine power reduced mode for safety reasons so that you won't lose control of the car or other problem. Yet reducing the engine power on a busy highway or the PA turnpike where there is nowhere to safely pull over is the most dangerous problem of all. Notes for other consumers: so far the mechanic has flushed the throttle body (cleaned it), and replaced the timing belt . Taking to a different mechanic for a 2nd opinion on the most recent internal mode switch diagnosis.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse. While driving at 55 mph, the engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the timing belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.
While driving the vehicle slipped out of drive and by the time I got home reverse was gone. I took it to the dealership, sunshine chevy in asheville nc, and it was only one month out of warranty. They tried to sell me a new transmission for $6,000. 00 then after much fighting only charged a warranty deductable (never heard of such a thing) of $500. 00. It has been five months and this new transmission is now doing the same thing! this car is a death trap. It rolls backwards when it is in drive, they have since claimed it is a design flaw and not covered under any warranty. It is like driving a straight drive, you have to keep your foot on the brake until you accelerate. I live in the mountains and it is a huge problem. There is also an seat belt recall that they have not fixed yet. I have had it in for a timing chain recall, and air bags, plus three others since purchasing this vehicle. I was told when I purchased this vehicle it had 10 years on the power train, is the transmission not a part of that? I have over 25 complaints for this same transmission issue and I am gathering more. How do we get this vehicle recalled?.
Condenser and all belts had major leaks for no apparent reason. Lost all refrigerant in less that 24 hours.
