1 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 05/30/2020

When turning at low speed, the vehicle loses power steering. At first this only happened occasionally and not it is happening more. It also gets worse if vehicles has been drove along that day. Check power steering fluid and it is full. This does not happen every time I turn but randomly when turning at low speed. Turning onto a road, at stoplight or into and out of parking spots. Happens with speeds between 5-20 mph.

2 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 09/29/2018

I was driving on the highway and the vehicle shut off while I was driving at 70 mph. Lost power steering and brakes out of no where which is when I noticed the rpms was at 0. After we, by the grace of god, made it to the side of the road safely, we had it towed to a garage where the said the timing chain came off and ruined the engine and that it is a common problem and could be fixed for around $5600. The vehicle has 65k miles and blew up? its a common problem for a vehicle to shut off on the highway and I wasn't warned that this vehicle has this kind of history and gm don't recognize this is a problem!.

5 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/23/2017

Our 2010 Chevrolet Traverse will lose power steering when making hard turns and/or turning at low speeds. The vehicle has been in motion nearly every time when this happens. We have lost all power steering when turning even on five lane highways, crossing very busy highways. We have never experienced this with a vehicle before this one. We are reporting it today, but we have experienced this sudden loss of power steering several times with our Traverse. This is a safety issue, and general motors needs to do something about it.

12 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

I have noticed noise in the steering column. The first 2 times I took it in for service the tech was unable to replicate the problem. The third time I took it in, they heard the noise and diagnosed a problem with the steering rack. I was told the rack needs to be replaced, and that if I did not replace the rack I would at some point lose power steering. If this occurs, I believe that it is possible that I could be involved in a collision. Since the problem was diagnosed, I have noticed a vibration in the steering column that seems to be getting worse. At this point, gm is not taking responsibility for this problem, although it is such a widespread problem that a class action lawsuit has been filed in the florida court system.

14 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

2011 Chevrolet Traverse lt was first told around April 2014 following an oil change at my local gm certified dealer that there was a leak around the power steering system (I cannot remember the exact term used). Anyway, the service tech said that it was clearly a slow leak and not causing any urgent problems, but that I should pay attention to it should things change. The next 2 or 3 oil changes, the same issue was noted. During a routine oil cahnge may 2105, I was told there was a seal leak to the engine of some sort but it was 'warrantied'. So, I authorized the repair, of a leak that I never noticed/had issue with. Fast forward to July 2015 (68,000 +/- miles) and my power steering is leaking puddles, the resivoir remains full, and suddenly lose all power steering capabilities. Call same gm dealer I always use, as I notice on the unrelated repair in may, the power steering components were messed with, flushed, etc. To allow for proper repair of other issue. I was told about a 'warranty extenstion' for the power steering pump and to bring it in, it should be a covered repair based on the notes the service tech could read pertaining to my vehicle. Call back today (8/3) and am told that while the pump is covered, nothing else is (despite from my research the pump failure is likely causing the other noted issues) and the repair for the rack/gear box + alignment + flushing + whatever else he rattled off to me, would be at my expense, with a quote of $2100+/- from everything I have read and researched, this is an extremely common issue that gm refuses to address in order to properly repair at their expense vs. The expense of vehicle owner. Clearly this is a massive and widespread gm issue with vehicles in this class.

15 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 09/13/2013

When attempting to pass (at a normal speed & situation) accelerator sticks & continues speeding up until I slammed on brakes(which didn't stop me) & pulled the accelerator up at the same time, this has now occurred 5 times over the last 7 months, it is terrifying when it happens, I have 3 kids in the vehicle with me most of the time, then today when it happened right after it started working properly I lost power steering when I apply my brakes!! not impressed with this vehicle right now!.

16 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 07/10/2013

My Traverse loses power steering at low speeds. When pulling into or out of a parking spot there is no power steering. Also occurs when turning to make a u turn when at low rpm. This started in July 2013 and has been getting worse. I have taken to the dealer 3 times without any confirmed diagnose. The lack of power steering makes it very difficult to maueuver in parking lots or parking garages. They noted a small leak on the rack and pinion but do not believe that it is related to the power steering problem at low speeds. The steering works great at speeds higher then 30mph.

17 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Driving at low speeds while turning it becomes very difficult to turn. Lose power steering.

18 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/26/2013

My wife is the primary driver of our 2009 Traverse. I was driving it about a week ago and noticed the power steering motor whining. We had an appointment for service on the 26th and I reported it to them. Basically at slow speeds when turning you could here the motor whining. They stated that the power steering pump needs to be replaced along with the rack due to leaking (which we hadn't noticed previously). The repair is estimated at $1800. I have read where people have lost their power steering riding down the road, that hasn't happened to us, yet. .

19 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

Without warning, no leaks, no noises. . . . At 55 mph when I started to decrease my speed to take a curve I lost my power steering. This comes and goes without warning and is very dangerous for anyone driving a Traverse!! I just bought this used vehicle on Mar 6, 2013 and no signs of any problems and then the power steering fails. When you try to turn into parking lots or onto a side street it just hits and you lose all power steering making it very dangerous for all person(s) in or near the vehicle. We were told by various mechanics in the surrounding area that this is a "known" design flaw and problem in these vehicles and yet gm has yet to do anything about this!! there is a multitude of complaints regarding this exact same issue the is scattered all over the internet with power steering issues!! gm should be required to issue a recall immediately before its too late and someone gets killed and class action lawsuits are filed!!.

20 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 03/10/2013

Going around a corner on a highway at approx 55 miles per hour the handling of the car becam erratic and difficult to control and uncontrollably shifted into the left lane. I forced it to the side of the road and determined we lost power steering. Had to manhandle it to our repair shop. The mechanic replaced the power steering pump and bled the system. Still was not right. Replaced the pump again and re-bled system. Still no better. Researched problem and found that we have to repalce the rack as well. Should not have to put this kind of money into a vehicle with 46,860 miles on it. Gm will do nothing. There is no way that my wife or my daughters could have safely got that car to the side of the road and they both drive the car. Have no decided to repair vehicle yet. Will be contacting the better business bureau. Amazing no one have had a serious or fatal accident yet.

At slow speeds, you lose power steering when trying to park in parking spots, turning curves, and turning off onto other streets. Very dangerous driving when you are expecting to turn and can't turn because of the power steering failure. This should be looked into before someone in injuried or even killed. This does not occur all the time, but occurs too often when you least expect it. I've just purchased vehicle and did not know about the problem until after I had the vehicle about a week.

24 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 09/12/2011

Lost power steering, took vehicle to dealer for repair but to this day it is still occurring this problem is so dangerous that I can't see how gm wouldn't recall to repair so I've been waiting because of the expense associated. It's just a matter of time before someone is killed from this nationwide problem.
