Chevrolet Venture owners have reported 137 problems related to door (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Venture based on all problems reported for the Venture.
My 5-year-old daughter was opening the driver-side sliding door (not-automatic), when it slid out of the track (the one in the rear panel, not the bottom), sheared off the roller-bearing (?) part that is supposed to be in the track, and the rear part of the door dropped to the ground, nearly landing on her. This is a small (37lb) child - and it is unbelievable that she could have caused this occurrence. We haven't yet repaired the part, and the door doesn't close correctly at all. We are going to be doing the repair within the next week, but this seems like it should be a recall-worthy event.

: the contact stated the right power sliding door of the vehicle latched close trapping a child's hand. The keys were locked inside the vehicle and an ambulance was called to assist. A paramedic had to break a window to release the child. The vehicle has not been to a dealer or independent auto repair shop to determine whether this incident was caused by a manufacturer defect.
Passenger side door has fallen off track twice. I has it fixed both events and it cost me $125. 00. Now I hear that other people have been experiencing this problem. Gm needs to approve a re-call to address the safety issues surrounding the sliding doors on the Venture, silhouette, and montana Mini-vans.
Rear passenger automatic side door does not close, pops open when its suppose to latch shut. A child safety seat is beside the automatic door. Door opened while my 9 year old son was sitting beside door and the vehicle was in motion. Luckily I was only going about 15 miles and hour in a residential zone. Door was taken in to dealership for inspection, because vehicle is no longer under warranty, no step were taken to repair door due to financial restraints.

Driver and passenger windows stick. The glass does not stay in alignment and cause the window to either stick in the down position or the up position. I have had it repaired several times and the problem persists. Ive been told the door shape causes this problem.
Power sliding doors don't have safety sensors on them, they will shut on whatever is in the way, they have left a bruise on me when I was standing in the way of the door. Younger children or even adults could be hurt or possibly killed in them.
While getting out of the van on passenger side back sliding door a three year old child got her leg caught in the v-bar. The door would not stop opening, the door dragged her while it was opening. Caller was trying to brace the door so it would not open any further, and someone else was trying to get the child out. The van had no shut off readily accessible to stop the door while it was opening or closing. Girl got cut on head and bruised ankle and thigh. Had 5 stitches.
The vehicle was parked the driver opened the door to exit the vehicle and without warning the door closed on its own. This cause the driver's arm to become caught inside of the door. The driver went to the hospital on their own. Please provide additional information.
My wife, debora was a passenger in the back seat of a Chevrolet Venture minivan. As she opened the sliding door with the handle her arm became pinned against the side of the seat and edge of the door jam. The powered door continued to open until her wrist snapped. I have looked at how this could happened and saw this obvious automotive design flaw. My wife is currently awaiting surgery, which will include titanium plate & screws. Who knows the eventual outcome ? my complaint and questions are these. . In your recall search I find your assigned recall # 04v-597 and gm's recall #04110. My wifes wrist was broken on April 16th because of the problem as stated in that recall. Why hasn't the vehicle owner (original owner) been notified of this injury causing problem? I've spoken to chevy dealership owners, who say they have no knowledge yet of this recall. Gm has a database of all original owners as do dealerships. Is it too difficult or too expensive to bulk mail your customers. Sorry for the inconvenience, DE-activate the door till we get you a new handle. Ask the owners to caution passengers about this problem. Well, gms problem became my problem. Farmers insurance won't pay for the injury because their client (car owner) was not negligent. Thanks for listening. Steve depoyster.
The right side sliding door will not open properly and was making a clicking noise when it was closed, sounding like it was going to prop open. Consumer will take vehicle to dealer for the second time because this could not provide sufficient protection inside the vehicle to the passengers.

2004 chevy Venture-this vehicle was our choice due to the connivance with two young children, now ages 2 and 3 years old. There have been several incidences in which my arm has been bruised by the power door mechanism. One of such incidences I had taken both children out of the car and was reaching back inside the rear left door to retrieve the diaper bag. Somehow the door mechanism was triggered to close. I thought if I applied pressure to the door it would reverse however this mechanism is severely delayed. Thus the door mechanism was not triggered to reverse until my arm was completely sandwiched between the door & door frame. By the time the door reversed my arm was sore and bruised. I have obviously learned to be very cautious with this door not to get a body part trapped in this door since that occasion. This cautiousness extends to being obsessive about my children and their ability to reach the door button & being able to have a limb obstructing the door. We make sure the children are immediately buckled into their car seats to ensure that they can not open and close the door. However the fact that I as a 23 year old adult has to apply considerable pressure to reverse the door worries me. One day I chose to test the door to see how much pressure I would have to apply to reverse the door I found that applying as much pressure with one hand as possible I was still unable to reverse the door until the door is with in 4 inches of the door frame requiring as much pressure as I would have to apply to operate a lawn mower. My children do not have this amount of strength in any limb of their bodies. If for some reason they would be in a situation where their limb would be obstructing this door they would no doubt suffer extreme injury. As a mother their safety rest on me and I feel that I am doing all I can to prevent an injury with this situation however I truly wish for this motorized mechanism to be thoroughly investigated.
Dt:the contacts states the gas tank scrapes the ground when two or more people sit in the rear seat of the vehicle. The dealership stated the vehicle had been damaged, causing this problem. The dealership repaired the heat shield that covers the gas tank. This did not correct the problem. The manufacturer was contacted, and they stated the rear springs were causing the scrapping. This would be repaired under warranty. The door doesn't close properly. Updated 01/19/06.
The sliding door failed to reopen when an object was in the way of closing as designed to do. This caused injuries to upper torso. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Power sliding door wouldn't stop or open, wife got shoulder, arm, knee caught in door. The door is not working right. Called gm and they were very rude and said it was my problem.

Defective automatic doors on the 2003 Venture. The third time with automatic door not stopping when it hit the consumer. No answer required - no contact information provided.
Chevy Venture has a sporadic power sliding door. Sometimes it will open and then it will reverse and start to close. Most times it does not close securely.
Driver's side rear sliding door came off as the valet was pulling the vehicle into the parking area. Manufacturer had not made contact with the consumer. . Manufacturer has been notified, given file # 1-283933112, and has made no attempts to rectify the problem. Promises of return calls have not materialized.
We rented a 2004 chevy Venture minivan from avis at phila airport. The minivan comes equipped with a remote-controlled power sliding door on the passenger side. We wondered if the door had an auto-reverse to prevent it from closing on something. We could imagine that with the remote control, someone on the driver side of the van or inthe driver's seat could close the door without seeing that there was a child, for example, sitting or lying across the doorway. So we decided to test it. We held a 1/2 inch thick stick against the doorframe and closed the door with the remote. If there is an auto-reverse, it did not operate! the door closed on the stick with such force that it pulled the stick out of the tester's hand and crushed the stick against the doorframe. Imagine what it would do to a child's hand or leg! or neck, god forbid! what is this minivan doing on the market????.
I was on a business trip in texas and we had rented a 2004 Chevrolet Venture minivan from hertz. On Thursday we went to lunch, and I was sitting in the middle bench seat behind the front passenger. When I opened the door to get out, the automatic opener mechanism engaged. I was holding the door handle pulling the door open, the automatic opener pushed my elbow into my seat, and the opener continued to force the door open. With my arm trapped between the handle and the seat, the door twisted my wrist back until it broke one of my wrist bones. After that I was taken to the hospital and treated. The car was returned to hertz, and hertz was notified, and as far as I know they have taken no action. As far as I know there is no corrective action that gm has taken to remedy this problem with the Venture.
(1) on 9/7/04 I purchased a 2003 Chevrolet Venture van. It is a wb edition with two sliding side doors. On 9/19/04 three of my four children and myself were picking my finace' up from work on old rt. 66 in oatman az. I climbed into the driver's seat, my 8 year old daughter got into the passenger side, first row of back seats, closed the door, and buckled her seat-belt. My 5 year old daughter began getting into the driver's side first row of seats, and my fiance into the passenger side front seat. My 8 year old daughter had her right hand rresting on the door handle of the passenger side power sliding door. (2)my son, opened the passenger side power sliding door, engaging the power door response, and before my 8 year old daughter (kristen barker) could remover her hand from the door handle, her elbow was pinned to the back of her seat, and the door continued to open. There was a "pop" and her arm was broken. Both bones in her right fore-arm were left with green stick fractures. (3) I phoned the dealership the following day, and requested a return of my vehicle as I no longer felt safe in it. They denied my request, and when I asked about the 30 day return law, the sales manager said there was no such law. I phoned gm then, and filed a compaint. I was given a file number of 1-258601011, and told that legal * contact me in 48-72 hours if they didn't deny my claim. Legal called the next morning. I spoke with laura dubose, and she told me that claims would call in 7-10 days. Claims called the next morning, and I was given another file number of 485837. The woman in claims told me how to disable the power doors in my van, and I have done so. Opening them now without the power takes a pretty strong arm, but this is how we're going to do it. No repairs have been done as of yet. Pe04064. Pco.
When the vehicle was locked, the sliding door opened. The consumer stated when an object was in the way of the sliding door it continued to close instead of disengaging. Please provide additional information. There is no cylinder lock and key.
The automatic reverse safety feature of both power side sliding doors requires excessive force to activate. This results in potential serious injury to small children, weak adults or senior adults unable to exert enough force to activate the reversing mechanism. Compare effort required to this safety feature in typical home garage doors or the Honda odyssey for example.
The sliding door does not retract as it should. The dealer stated the vehicle functioned as designed. Excessive pressure to reverse door when closing.
Intermittently the sliding door on driver's side was locked and couldn't be opened up. On August 16, 2004. A 23 month old child's hand got stuck in the door. Child was taken to the hospital. Dealership has been notified.
Automatic sliding door on 2004 Venture van. . . Door is dangerous. I sometimes transport older people. I have had 2 near tragedies in the first 2 months I have owned vehicle. The last was when I went to the hospital to pick up a severely handicapped widow woman. When she started to make her exit she somehow must have had her right hand on door the handle and elbow part of arm on seat while door was opening. I could not hold the door back but was able to pull her arm free before it was broken. I reported this to general motors and to the dealer where I bought this vehicle on August 2004. They both told me that this is characteristic of this vehicle. Pe04064.
The sliding door would not reopen when a object is in the path of closing as designed to do. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Consumer sustained injuries to the lower torso.
The sliding door doesn't stay locked in the open position, even if the vehicle is on a flat surface. This almost resulted in a toddler being crushed between the doors. The dealership was contacted and indicated that a sliding door attachment needed to be tightened. The passengers left sliding door would not lock in place.
I was the only owner of a 2000 chevorlet Venture until two months ago when the door (sliding) fell off for the fourth time. Because gm refused to do anything about it beyond repair it for the fourt time for free, I traded in the vehicle. I was not at all amused that my daughter fell out the door and could have been seriously injured. Thank god she wasn't. The van had been fixed three times previously from the door falling off. Chevorlet could only verify one time that it was repaired because the dealers did not enter the repair into their computers. I had all my receipts saying what was done to the vehicle in hand written notices. However, chevorlet did not believe me and chose to ignor the problem. I am very sorry that someone else's child might get hurt because chevorlet ignored the problem.
The consumer complained about the passenger sliding door, while the vehicle was parked. As the person opened the door, their wrist hung on the inside handle and consequently he/she wrist was broken. Pe04064. Pco.
Design flaw in 2004 Chevrolet Venture. The consumer rented the van for a vacation. When the consumer child opened the power sliding door his elbow became stuck in the seat and he could not remove his hand from the door handle. The door continued to open and hyper-extended his right wrist. The child hear a few snaps and then was able to move away from the door. The child sustained a broken wrist. The consumer believes this door is poorly designed.
2004 Chevrolet Venture van. While stopped in a parking lot, my fourteen year old son opened the passenger side automatic side door using the interior handle. He kept his hand on the handle while it was opening. His arm (elbow) became stuck in the seat and he could not remove his hand from the door handle while the door was opening. The door continued to open and hyper-extended his right wrist. He heard a couple snaps and found a way to move away from the door. Hes now wearing a cast. We took him to a local hospital and x-rays indicated that he fractured his right wrist. Pe04064. Pco.
The sliding doors are unsafe, they are catching people in the middle of the doors. The door caught the owner's daughter 3 times in the doorway while trying to remove a child from the child seat. The doors are sliding closed, and when it hits a person it's not returning. The owners 3 year old was caught in the door, and the owner had to pull him loose. The other door was opening and closing by itself. If the owner has the remote in hand and accidently hits the remote door would start to close. If someone is in the doorway the door is not reversing itself. The owner has already talked to the dealer and the manufacturer. And no one is willing to take the time to help to fix the problem. The door closed on the 3 year old's body and head and then the door still didn't return back. The vehicle has been returned to dealer for repair 3 times. When this is happening the vehicle is turned off.
