1 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

Gas gauge does not accurately reflect fuel. It jumps wildly at times from full to empty and back to full. It often shows 3/4 of a tank when it is actually near empty. I had to begin tracking my mileage to ensure I do not run out of gas. Gas light goes on and off but usually coincides with an empty reading. And this is not covered under any warranty. When this started happening I ran out of gas with 2 small children in the car in winter due to gauge said 1/2 tank. . .

3 Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 05/02/2012

Chevy Venture 2002 w/83732 miles. To whom it may concern: on April 28, 2002 I took van to have it test it for the emissions. It failed with p0446 code, evap vent performance. On may 2, 2002, I took the van to my local dealership to have it diagnosed for service engine light and abs light on. They advised me that in order for them to further diagnosed this issue, that they would need to remove the fuel tank for a total of $776. 51 cost. Service advisor requested an immediate payment of $345. 00 for them to further diagnose the issue which I declined. I then called gm to inquired about any service bulletins and/or recalls on my minivan, gm found none and they declined to assist with this repair. Based on my research, it seems that a lot of chevy Venture owners are experiencing the same issue with the emissions system. I do feel that there is a defective part within the emmisions system and more specifically the vent valve and or the fuel tank pressure sensor in the fuel tank. I will not be buying another gm product. I would be very happy to see a recall on this issue. Customer shouldn't have to be put in a financial position where the fuel tank on the vehicle needs removal in order to have a fuel emissions system diagnosed. Thank you very much for your attention to this matter. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

9 Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 04/19/2010

I have a 2001 chevy Venture that had a recall on the fuel tank because it could leak fuel and a cause a fire. On April 19th my wife took the van in to chapman Chevrolet in tempe,az to get the tank replaced because it has been leaking fuel for some time now. We were never notified of this recall. We looked it up online. When she got there she was told that we were over the mileage for the free tank replacement and would have to pay a $1000 to have it replaced. That was of course out of the question and it is not our fault that they made a defective tank and is a fire hazard that they want people to drive around in unless they have a thousand dollars to spend on replacing it. Please help if you can. This can be a serious problem and gm needs to stand behind their products.

16 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 12/24/2006

September 2006 was told my fuel tank was leaking and it needed to be replaced. I ask them where the leak was and they told me that it was leaking at the factor seal where the gas hose connects to the fuel tank itself. Due to the fact that my warranty had expired I was told I was to pay $1500. 00 to replace it. I ended up taking it to an independent repair shop where they charged me $1100. 00 to replace it on December 23 2006 the shop that did the repair told me that where this leak is a factory defect and, I was lucky that my van never caught fire. He told me that the area where this leak was a week point on the plastic tank and that it was never sealed right. The day they fixed my van they order a new and it too was broken in the same spot as mine was. They had to order another tank that same day. This is a big problem (plastic gas tank on my 2003 chevy Venture). This matter need to be looked in to before some one else get hurt or dies because of the weak points in these plastics tanks I still have this tank and will submit pictures if you need me to so you can see where this defect is.

18 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 08/01/2006

My 2003 Chevrolet Venture developed a stress fracture at the bezel/collar of the gas tank which caused the tank to begin leaking at a rate of 1 gallon / hr. I did not hit anything, per the mechanic. He could find no evidence of any other damage. The leaking was so bad that I had to have the vehicle towed. I contacted Chevrolet, but did not receive a response. This is a potentially dangerous situation, as the gas tank/bezel/connector hose is at a low point of the vehicle in the back. It is only through good fortune that I did not start a fire from the leaking fluid.

19 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 09/13/2005

I have a 2003 chevy Venture Mini-van. The gas tank has come apart at the filler neck assembly. This is a molded tank and is all one piece. My vehicle has 46,000 miles on it. G. M. Is willing to pay for half the cost which still amounts to $500. 00 because the estimate I have received from the dealer was $893. 00. However, this is not the reason for me to send this e-mail. I have taken pictures of this leak and I feel there needs to be documentation of this hazard. I find it perplexing that the manufacture and dealer would not stand behind their product regardless of the amount of miles on it. I am in the process of having the tank replaced for a cost of $250. 00. But obviously, for a gas tank to come apart at the seam in a two year time frame makes me believe that the tank was defective when it was installed at the factory. Thank you for hearing my complaint. Sincerely, tim purdy.

22 Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 07/24/2005

My 2000 Venture was parked on an incline nose down with a full tank of gas. After about one hour someone smelled gas. We found gas streaming out from under the van. There was no gas in my garage and I did not hit any objects on the way. I had the van towed to the dealer. Must replace entire gas tank because 'check valve inside tank went bad'. Cost $1100. This poor design makes us have to replace the entire tank for one valve. Not a maintenance issue. Could have been a very dangerous situation. Gm won't help pay for repair.

23 Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Venture

Fuel tank "thud" heard from underneath vehicle a second or two after coming to a stop. Loudest when tank is 1/2 to 3/4 full. Taken to dealer two times while under warranty. No repair made. Now with 80,000 miles on vehicle, we have taken it in again and shown the dealer a "technical service bulletin" from NHTSA. Com showing certain 1998 VIN #'s need new fuel tanks. Dealer told me my vehicle didn't apply. Two weeks later I returned and drove vehicle w/service manager. He finally agreed that there is a problem with my tank and will fix/replace. If you have this problem, see the section on this web site that shows technical service bulletins, print my complaint also, and take these to your dealer to get your "thud" fixed.

31 Tank Assembly problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 09/30/1998

The noise coming from the fuel tank appears when the tank is full and is heard down to about 1/2 tank. When you start out or come to a stop a "thump" sound is heard. It sounds like a basketball is rolling around in the tank. The dealer has r/r the tank and replaced the strapping and the sound is still there. If and when I sell this vehicle the sound won't be a selling point. Plus, there's a possibility that it could be a safety issue too. I've filled out a nhts questionnaire in October and haven't heard from either the manufacture or the dealership. When I first contacted the dealership, they checked the tech. Support side of the house and were told that there was a known problem, no fix, but not to worry. . . Well, we're worring now. Please contact us by e-mail as to the status of this problem. Thank you john thime.

32 Tank Assembly problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 09/10/1998

We are experiencing a thumping/loose basketball rolling in the back of vehicle sound. It happens when the tank is full, and gets louder down to 1/2 full then dissapates. Additional padding and straping were installed by the dealer, but the sound is still there only louder. For resale this isn't going to fly. Is there anything that can be done? thank you.

33 Tank Assembly problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 09/01/1998

With fuel tank full and down to 1/2 tank, we hear a thumping noise. This happens when we stop, or accelerate. We also hear it when we pull in or out of the garage (sloped). Once the tank is below 1/2 the noise goes away. We have had the dealer replace the insulation between the tank and frame and new stapping was installed at the same time. The problem still exists. If we trade this in like we're planning on doing, this problem will sure put a crimp on the sale price. Any information on a fix or some corrective action would be appreciated. Thank you.
