I purchased a used 2002 chevy Venture with only 84,000 and the first thing I did was fill it with gas for the next day of school drop offs and pick ups . I got home parked it and the next day a small puddle of gas was under drivers side sliding door. I looked on line and found a recall so I called the chevy dealer and they said my VIN # was not one that was covered. So now we have our new van sitting in our drive way with no money to fix it till next week. I think gm really needs to step up and fix their problem. . . I fond several people in the same boat. And still after they bought a new tank a week or two later the same thing occurred. . So now what. . . Who is keeping the automotive companies accountable. . Does some small child have to be injured or god forbid loose their life. . . Some one needs to do something. . . .

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Venture. The contact stated the fuel gauge moved up and down and failed to display the accurate amount of fuel. The contact stated when she added gasoline to the fuel tank the fuel gauge would display empty. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told it was possible that the float used in the fuel tank to read gasoline levels had failed. The failure and current miles were 85,000. I have a 2005 Chevrolet Venture Mini van that has developed a fuel leak around the area where the filler tube connects to the fuel tank. Having researched this, it is apparent that this has been a problem for these vehicles as early as 2003. This the third time this has happened on my van. I have attempted to repair it twice, using an epoxy sealer, but the leak redevelops after a few days. I might have to replace the fuel tank and filler tube, if I can find one that I can afford. Gm says that this is not defect and will not issue a recall, but it seems that just the idea of fire hazard would be enough reason for gm to fix the problem. I do not see how gm can not say that this is not a defect in the design, since this has occurred a number of time. It's a plastic side mounted tank with no protection surrounding it and a filler tube that joins it in a very vulnerable area.

On 08/13/2010 our 2003 Venture minivan suddenly began smelling of fuel. Upon inspection I noticed fuel streaming from the fuel tank where the filler neck joins the body of the tank. At first I thought the filler hose was loose so I tried to twist it to check the tightness, at this point the neck separated from the tank entirely! about 15 gallons of fuel were spilled and fire rescue were dispatched. This seems to be a problem that is very common with this tank, I have only been looking for a replacement one day and have encountered several tanks with this problem. Some have been repaired with an epoxy but I have been warned this is a "trade it quick" remedy.

The fuel gauge indicator did not display the correct amount of fuel in the tank. The vehicle has stalled without warning because there was no fuel in the tank. The dealer determined that the fuel sensor needed to be replaced.
The "service engine soon" light came up one morning. A certified friend mechanic checked it out at home with his engine analyzer/computer & found nothing wrong. He then checked out the gas cap if secure. After awhile, the light went off. I still can't believe it was the gas cap because I'm very careful about loose gas caps. Anyway, after 2 days of driving, the light came out again. Beforehand, he suggested to have the gas cap replaced if this happens again. So I changed it & have been driving around for almost 3 weeks now but the light is still there. Somebody said that it might take a couple of gas tank refills before the gas cap get "cross-threaded" or sealed tight. I already had 2 refills & the light's still there. The van's running well & am experiencing no problems whatsoever. I just want to have that light turned off.
